Post Danmark Rundt
We are in Denmark for the 17th edition of the Post Danmark Rundt. This race holds a special distinction - in its entire MGUCI history no one has won it twice. As evident from the 2023 edition, we had our 16th different winner in Marlen Zmorka. The Ukrainian won't be able to defend his title as his team - Oxxo - Frisby (known as Los Pollos Hermanos last year), has moved up to the PT division. And with previous winners either being absent or enjoying retirement, it is certain that we will have our 17th different winner this year. But let's take a look at what lies ahead
We open with two straightforward flat stages. A more tricky hilly stage is next which may see the first gaps in the general classification opening up, followed up by a third opportunity for the sprinters. The decider will be a 35 km TT stage in Grindsted. This means that TT skills will be very important, but no rider aspiring for GC should neglect the hilly 3rd stage as it may make-or-break the race. But what does the panel say?
| Rider | FL | MT | HI | TT | ST | RS | AC | Dunbar | 69 | 77 | 76 | 82 | 74 | 77 | 68 | Cataford | 74 | 72 | 70 | 79 | 75 | 75 | 69 | Paillot | 69 | 69 | 70 | 79 | 74 | 73 | 63 | Ioannidis | 67 | 75 | 73 | 78 | 76 | 74 | 70 | Kiriakidis | 68 | 74 | 73 | 78 | 72 | 73 | 71 | Christapopoulos | 73 | 62 | 73 | 78 | 72 | 72 | 69 | Powless | 72 | 78 | 72 | 78 | 76 | 74 | 71 | Ferreyra | 72 | 72 | 72 | 78 | 72 | 74 | 69 | Potocki | 71 | 71 | 72 | 77 | 75 | 77 | 69 | Daniel | 75 | 67 | 72 | 77 | 75 | 74 | 68 | Vangstad | 74 | 72 | 70 | 77 | 74 | 75 | 68 | Cabrera | 69 | 75 | 72 | 76 | 71 | 73 | 65 | Barbio | 68 | 74 | 72 | 76 | 72 | 73 | 67 | Hennis | 70 | 67 | 70 | 76 | 71 | 72 | 76 | Kaczmarek | 72 | 68 | 75 | 75 | 74 | 75 | 69 |
2023 runner-up Eddie Dunbar stands head and shoulders over the rest of the field according to the panel. With 82 TT and 76 HI he seems to be the unanimous pick to win, but we've seen that high stats aren't enough. Yohan Paillot, who finished in 3rd place, is also looking to score a win in Denmark. Sandwiched between them is Alexandor Cataford from Sony - Force India. The following three in our list are part of ELCO's Greek TT core (Ioannidis, Kiriakidis and Christapopoulos) with team manager SotD deciding to go for GC win with whatever he has on his disposal. Benetton have also thrown their hat in the ring with Powless with other teams also fielding their best hill/TT hybird riders, but anything below Powless on this list seems like a wildcard for the moment.
| Rider | FL | ST | RS | SP | AC | Enger | 73 | 71 | 73 | 81 | 78 | Einhorn | 74 | 71 | 71 | 80 | 78 | Aniolkowski | 76 | 76 | 74 | 80 | 79 | Bonifazio | 79 | 68 | 75 | 80 | 80 | Kalaba | 74 | 70 | 72 | 79 | 79 | Adomaitis | 75 | 66 | 74 | 79 | 78 | Hodeg | 72 | 69 | 74 | 79 | 78 | Rodenberg | 74 | 70 | 77 | 79 | 79 | Walscheid | 73 | 71 | 74 | 79 | 79 | Nur Hasan | 74 | 74 | 74 | 79 | 78 | Perera | 71 | 69 | 73 | 79 | 80 | Hayakawa | 73 | 75 | 68 | 79 | 79 | Kulikovskiy | 73 | 70 | 73 | 78 | 79 | Contreras | 72 | 73 | 75 | 78 | 80 | Losch | 73 | 72 | 68 | 78 | 79 |
We do have 3 sprint stages on our hand in this race, but given the unpredictability of the sprint finishes, it's basically a Russian Roulette and anyone can win these stages or be in the Top 5. Mostly teams without any GC aspirations have sent their sprinters instead to fight for stage wins and points classificaion.
| Rider | FL | MT | HI | ST | RS | SP | AC | Turgis | 73 | 67 | 79 | 76 | 78 | 70 | 77 | Budyak | 68 | 74 | 78 | 72 | 67 | 57 | 68 | Narvaez | 70 | 72 | 77 | 71 | 71 | 73 | 74 | Calmejane | 74 | 71 | 77 | 73 | 76 | 72 | 76 | Yudha | 69 | 71 | 77 | 74 | 73 | 65 | 75 | Pellaud | 70 | 65 | 77 | 74 | 68 | 65 | 70 | Grossschartner | 67 | 74 | 77 | 72 | 73 | 62 | 72 | Sepulveda | 69 | 74 | 76 | 72 | 71 | 69 | 71 | Velasco | 73 | 72 | 76 | 75 | 71 | 69 | 76 | Ludvigsson | 67 | 63 | 76 | 74 | 70 | 67 | 76 |
Stage 3 is a hilly stage and for riders with strong hill stats, but not good enough TT to fight for the GC, this is perhaps their opportunity for at least a stage glory. Though at face value none of the riders in this list really stand out, teams will be glad of some ranking points from them.

This is one of those races where we were really unsure what to do, so We just brought everything that Can TT and climb a bit.
I hoped to see Koumpetsos as a sprinter who actually had a shot at a result here and there, but he’s clearly outmatched.
Thanks for the premiew!

Thanks Ivan for the preview
I would be happy with some minor points. Looks like stage results with Zingle or Calmejane are our best shot.

The hilly stage traditionally isn't that selective here so gambling on local hero Bjerg to minimize the loss. Kalaba with a few decent sprint chances as well, lots of ways this could go right or wrong for us.

Who else but Dunbar?
Some chances for Bonifazio to still win something this season though.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Any points are good points here. Hayakawa for the sprints is probably our best shot, which means it's a small chance at best.
Good luck to those in contention though!

Dunbar had a couple of average races recently so really needs to live up to his favourite status here. Some big boys not listed in the favourites list like Bjerg and the DK duo so nothing is a given as we have learned the past few seasons. We have a pretty great team here with riders for all terrains - we absolutely must get a good haul of points here or our season will be kaput. Hopefully Dunbar is up to it here.
Thanks for the preview!

This went badly last year as all our depth was wiped out in a silly split. Wouldn't be surprised to see that again. Maybe Narvaez can be competitive on the hilly stage.

Important race for us with Cataford in the GC, and him and Howson in the ITT. Maybe Kuli can grab some points as well in the sprints.
Thanks for the preview!

With Hodeg as our only maxed rider at the start it's clear we won't sweep this race. Double-digit points would already be a success, but maybe we can also snatch some KoM points from the break in stage 3.

This race is one of our big goals of the season. Can Enger continue his good form here in Denmark?

Ouch! That's the end of the race for numerous strong riders with the potential for a GC top 10. For us it includes Ioannidis and Agrotis... Only Kiriakidis and Christapopoulos left. And neither have really showed great climbing capacity this season...

Well Daniel survived that split, but not with much room to spare. I remain pessimistic.

Oh that was a terrible split for us. Thought our guys would all get to the finish together across the non-TT, but I guess we're more likely in for nothing than a good result.
tough luck for us
