Arab Tour (HC) - preview
Welcome to the United Arab Emirates for the fifth edition of the Arab Tour! This is and has always been a stage race for the pure time trialists, with two times winner Marlen Zmorka unable to be here to represent his title. Let's have a look at the profile.
No prologue, but three sprint stages and a 30 km time trial. Unless some crazy stuff happens, this should mean the GC victory goes to a time trialist again. Let's have a look at the best ones at the startline.
| Nat. | Name | TT | | Dunbar Eddie | 82 | | Durbridge Luke | 80 | | Beniusis Justas | 80 | | Bjerg Mikkel | 80 | | Howson Damien | 80 | | Cataford Alexandor | 79 | | Norsgaard Mathias | 79 | | Kmieliauskas Rokas | 79 | | Haugard Phan Age | 79 | | Paillot Yoann | 79 | | Noia Carlo | 78 | | Ioannidis Nikolaos | 78 | | Kiriakidis Ioannidis | 78 | | Christapopoulos Pangiotis | 78 | | Ferreyra Diego Agustin | 78 | | Sajnok Szymon | 78 | | Dillier Silvan | 78 | | Nareklishvili Giorgi | 78 |
Last year's number three Dunbar clearly the favourite to win this race for the first time. His biggest rivals being Durbridge, Beniusis, Bjerg and Howson, with the Benetton Australian trying to win this race for the second time as well. In general you'd think these five names will make out the top-5. But if one or more of them has a bad day during the time trial, there's a large batch of 79 and 78 rated time trialists ready to step in.
Concerning the team's classification, apart from one of these five names Zalgiris and Sony have extra strong names with Kmieliauskas and Paillot, whereas ELCO - ABEA has three 78 rated time trialists at the startline.
Time to look at the sprinters, who can try and win up to three stages and the green jersey.
| Nat. | Name | FL | TT | ST | RS | SP | AC | | Coquard Bryan | 73 | 65 | 71 | 74 | 84 | 83 | | Farantakis Stylianos | 74 | 72 | 75 | 72 | 81 | 80 | | Ahlstrand Jonas | 72 | 58 | 71 | 70 | 81 | 79 | | Zabel Rick | 74 | 55 | 74 | 70 | 81 | 79 | | Liu Jiankun | 74 | 63 | 76 | 69 | 80 | 80 | | Bonifazio Niccolo | 79 | 55 | 68 | 75 | 80 | 80 | | Einhorn Itamar | 74 | 62 | 71 | 71 | 80 | 78 | | Lutsyshyn Roman | 70 | 64 | 69 | 73 | 79 | 80 | | Afewerki Elias | 73 | 63 | 77 | 70 | 79 | 80 | | Perera Madushanka | 71 | 58 | 69 | 73 | 79 | 80 | | Coutinho Lionel | 72 | 52 | 75 | 74 | 79 | 80 | | Rodenberg Frederik | 74 | 64 | 70 | 77 | 79 | 79 | | Adomaitis Rojus | 75 | 67 | 66 | 74 | 79 | 78 | | Kamberaj Xhuliano | 75 | 67 | 73 | 73 | 79 | 78 | | Nur Hasan Sandy | 74 | 59 | 74 | 74 | 79 | 78 | | Harrison Sam | 72 | 72 | 73 | 70 | 78 | 81 | | Kulikovskiy Alexandr | 73 | 64 | 70 | 73 | 78 | 79 | | Losch Max | 73 | 62 | 72 | 68 | 78 | 79 |
All of these names might just win one or more stages. Coquard as the top favourite, but his former team will try to score with Farantakis. The Greek also has a decent time trial in his legs, so enough bonus seconds might mean some GC points as well. Same can be said for Harrison. Quite a lot of 80+ sprinters at the startline, so it will be interesting to see who can make the most out of it.
Good luck to all, startlist in spoiler below. Shoutout to local rider Albalooshi who will be participating with Zain - Omantel.

Big expectations with two riders who should be in contention for the Top 5 in the TT. Hopefully, we don't get any funny business in the flats. Also hoping Kulikovskiy can pick up some scraps in an extremely packed sprint field.
Thanks for the preview

Gotta expect two Top 10 GC finishes. Could be a big scorer if Adomaitis can also score some. letsa go

I think the first race of the year where Bjerg has a realistic shot at a good GC, let's see how many points he will score

We have a very solid depth here for the TT, but we need for one of them to punch above their weight for the race to be interesting. Farantakis indeed has a good SPR and TT combo. If the TT would have been 10km shorter it might have meant something, but I can't see him fend off the top TT'ers even if he should end up winning 3 stages. Which we obviously know he won't.

I'm hoping my top TTers can grab a top 20 GC slot and maybe surprise above a few 78 guys. Not sure what can exactly be done, but we'll see.
Tivani will surely not even contest the sprints, but hopefully my other guys can find some breakaways as well! No idea how this is going to go but Manada better be asked to bring back breakaways on their own.

Not a great sprint from Ahlstrand but there will be more opportunities. Sommer with his moment to shine

Sommer
Cool to see both of my loaned-out riders find some success in PCT - Christen obviously with the big bang in TDU, and now Sommer with a day in white Shouldn't be the worst jersey to wear in the desert

Poor from Kuli again. He's not been on it since the high of Hanko. Hopefully we improve from here.
Thanks for the report!

That is a wild top-10, so many second and third tier sprinters. This engine is so wacky.
Thanks for the lovely preview! Dunbar should be a shoe in for a good result, where he winds up is probably dependant on daily form I’d say. Hoping he can take this one home, but nothing is ever given.

This is one of those races where we shoppe have probably allowed more bonus seconds to make the GC a bit more interesting.

Tivani is actually try to sprint which makes me very happy, even though things have not quite worked out for points.
S3 is what we came here for though and I'm excited
