 Tour de Romandie (HC)
Welcome to Switzerland for the HC Tour de Romandie! Sony won the race last year with Ki Ho Choi, who is now enjoying life in the PT. Sony's back though, as they will try to win the race for two years in a row. This time with Olivier, who recently finished fourth in the Giro d'Italia, some places above Choi. Let's have a look at the favourites for the race.
| Nat. | Name | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | SP | AC | PR | | Padun Mark | 82 | 77 | 66 | 72 | 74 | 60 | 75 | 65 | | Reis Rafael | 81 | 73 | 76 | 78 | 76 | 50 | 64 | 76 | | Oomen Sam | 81 | 75 | 74 | 78 | 77 | 65 | 69 | 77 | | Rodrigues Joao | 81 | 73 | 74 | 73 | 75 | 61 | 72 | 74 | | Olivier Daan | 81 | 76 | 69 | 76 | 80 | 64 | 71 | 69 | | Godoy Caio | 81 | 76 | 67 | 75 | 76 | 59 | 75 | 67 | | Cattaneo Mattia | 80 | 68 | 77 | 73 | 77 | 50 | 67 | 77 | | Tenorio Justo | 80 | 72 | 76 | 72 | 70 | 55 | 61 | 75 | | Ranaweera Suranga | 80 | 73 | 76 | 75 | 75 | 58 | 65 | 73 | | Giannoutsos Miltiadis | 80 | 72 | 72 | 76 | 78 | 64 | 68 | 77 | | Johannessen Tobias Halland | 80 | 74 | 70 | 73 | 77 | 67 | 75 | 69 | | Misbah Mushin | 79 | 70 | 75 | 76 | 73 | 62 | 68 | 74 | | Min Kyeng Ho | 79 | 76 | 66 | 75 | 77 | 62 | 66 | 66 | | Powless Neilson | 78 | 72 | 78 | 76 | 74 | 65 | 71 | 78 | | Chiarello William | 78 | 74 | 72 | 71 | 72 | 62 | 70 | 70 |
Padun is the best pure climber and has a good punch. His time trialing is not ideal though, but maybe that won't matter too much in the 7.5 km mountain time trial. Similar to him we see Olivier and Godoy, good climbers with a good punch, but perhaps not the most amazing time trial skills.
Slightly on the other side of the spectrum with a weaker punch but better against the clock are Reis, Rodrigues and definitely Cattaneo, whereas Oomen perhaps is the most versatile of them all. The Lierse Dutchie was second here last year. It has to be noted Reis actually won this race back in 2019 as well, even before the founding of the legendary Los Pollos Hermanos team.
Tenorio and Ranaweera can both time trial their way to a good result as way in theory, but are slightly weaker climbers and puncheurs than the big guys above them. Giannoutsos and Johannessen are okay on the time trial bike, but shouldn't gain a lot of time on many competitors there either. Of the remaining climbers we see Min standing out with his punch and Powless with his time trialling, although he might only be a domestique to Reis here.
Speaking about time trialing, the foundation towards a GC victory can be laid on stage one, with an 18 km long TTT. Let's have a look at the best teams there.
| Team | Avg TT | ELCO | 75 | Indosat | 74 | McCormick | 74 | UBS | 74 | ISA | 73 | Kraftwerk | 73 | Minions | 73 | Lierse | 72 | Everesting | 71 | JEWA | 71 | Sauber | 71 | Popo4Ever | 71 | Tryg | 71 | Benetton | 70 | Llapi | 70 | Podium | 70* | Sony | 70 | Ekoi | 69 | Lotto | 69 | Manade | 68 | Tafjord | 68 | Euskotren | 66 | Specialized | 66 | Bralirwa | 65 |
More than half of the teams between an average of 70 and 75 here, so we don't expect too many big differences on this length. Be ready to be surprised though. ELCO - ABEA the favourites to win the stage and grab the first yellow jersey, but Indosat, McCormick and UBS are all lurking to capitalize on the slightest error they make during the TTT. Podium Ambition the only team with seven riders.
Time can be won and lost in the mountains and during the TTT, but the same can be said for the punchy stage three. So, apart from the GC favourites with a good punch such as Padun, Olivier, Oomen, Godoy and Min, let's have a look at who else could score there.
| Nat. | Name | MO | HI | ST | RS | SP | AC | | Teuns Dylan | 75 | 78 | 73 | 73 | 66 | 72 | | Dyrnes Kristian | 72 | 78 | 73 | 73 | 65 | 77 | | Padun Mark | 82 | 77 | 72 | 74 | 60 | 75 | | Van Poucke Aaron | 77 | 77 | 69 | 72 | 67 | 75 | | Calmejane Lilian | 71 | 77 | 73 | 76 | 72 | 76 | | Olivier Daan | 81 | 76 | 76 | 80 | 64 | 71 | | Godoy Caio | 81 | 76 | 75 | 76 | 59 | 75 | | Min Kyeng Ho | 79 | 76 | 75 | 77 | 62 | 66 | | Leemreize Gijs | 78 | 76 | 70 | 74 | 62 | 72 | | Frankiny Kilian | 78 | 76 | 72 | 75 | 61 | 75 | | Masnada Fausto | 77 | 76 | 76 | 75 | 63 | 73 | | Carcueva Jonel | 77 | 76 | 72 | 72 | 64 | 73 | | Henao Sebastian | 76 | 76 | 71 | 73 | 63 | 70 |
Teuns definitely a stage favourite as well with his versatility and history, whereas Tafjord is hoping Dyrnes can challenge the Bralirwa Belgian and GC favourites on stage three. Van Poucke might be Lierse's wildcard here, but it will depend on whether Oomen gives the Belgian a free role.
Similar story for Calmejane who has leader Min with him, and also for the duo Leemreize - Carcueva who might need to think about Olivier. Frankiny might enjoy a bit more freedom.
Two flat stages as well, what sprinter can grab a win (or two) there?
| Nat. | Name | FL | HI | ST | RS | SP | AC | | Liu Jiankun | 74 | 67 | 76 | 69 | 80 | 80 | | Kalaba Dusan | 74 | 69 | 70 | 72 | 79 | 79 | | Rodenberg Frederik | 74 | 64 | 70 | 77 | 79 | 79 | | Walscheid Maximilian | 73 | 63 | 71 | 74 | 79 | 79 | | Harrison Sam | 72 | 67 | 73 | 70 | 78 | 81 | | Waersted Syver | 73 | 67 | 69 | 78 | 78 | 79 | | El Sabbahi Houcaine | 77 | 69 | 72 | 76 | 78 | 77 | | Mareczko Jakub | 74 | 61 | 71 | 73 | 78 | 77 | | Feiereisen Kevin | 74 | 68 | 73 | 68 | 77 | 78 | | Silvestre Fabio | 75 | 64 | 65 | 66 | 77 | 76 | | Hopkins Kaden | 68 | 64 | 71 | 66 | 74 | 75 |
Not a very deep sprinter field, but still quite evenly distributed with all of the sprinters here hoping for that shot at glory, possible even including Podium's youngster Hopkins. Best spr/acc average goes to Liu, who shouldn't start sprinting from too far out with his resistance. If you're looking for a good resistance, then keep an eye out for Rodenberg, Waersted and El Sabbahi.
Kalaba is also here and he's been known for being quite a constant scorer for the Minions generally, so let's see if he can continue to being known for that. Walscheid definitely with a chance to score here for Kraftwerk as well, let's hope he doesn't struggle too much on the undulating parcours in both so called flat stages. Same can be said for Mareczko, as Lierse is not only here for the GC with Oomen, but wants to score in the sprints as well.
That's all from me, over to the amazing reporter Imladrik now. Startlist below, good luck to all! (Especially Malacarne)

We really need the best Oomen here after a weaker previous month. Thanks for the preview!
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

If it was a TT instead of a TTT or a regular TT instead of a MTT my faith in Cattaneo would have been much higher, but let' see if the old dog still has some juice in him. Some nice opportunities for Kalaba as well with hillier sprint stages. Should be a good one.
Thnx for the preview.

Go Go Godoy!
Would love to finally see a Swiss team winning this race (and I'd have loved to have it in PTHC ^^), after we already got rather close with Stüssi's 3rd place last year.
But Godoy isn't the best rider obviously, being the weak link in the TTT. And the MTT also turned out to have some pretty heavy TT influence, so Godoy isn't my favourite. Nor are Olivier or Padun.
If he still has enough physical strength, Tenorio would look like a good bet. Or Giannoutsos, if ELCO get a good advantage from the TTT. But I'd put my money on Oomen, or maybe Reis.
Looking forward to the race - although I'm a bit sad that for the first time in team history, we can't participate
Thanks for the preview, and good luck to all!

That's a strong field! Godoy is going to have trouble here. Hopefully the TTT squad sheds Schelling and Schir before him and he can hang on til close to the end, but we will see. Appreciate the support Fab. Thanks Nemo, looking forward to this one.

A good redult here would be cool for a change. we have as strong a lineup as we could provide for Rodrigues. Lets see if theres anything in store for us.
thanks for the preview Nemo!

Sent the the depth team here but that failed terribly in Catalonia so not optimistic. Hopefully a good TTT performance will get us some GC preference and we can hang on for a few depth points. Have yet to a real suprise upside race so fingers crossed.
Lot of solid climbers here, maybe Reis' turn to shine.

Looking at the startlist, my hopes for this race are rising. THJ's main goal will be the white jersey, but he has enough depth in the support staff to challenge for a Top 10 overall. Rodenberg had an absolute stinker riding alongside Pedersen in Poland, but hopefully he can muster a bit more chemistry when paired up with Silvestre. A good race from him would involve at least one stage victory.

Let's go for break and chase what we can!
Seeing the startlist, sending Hofstetter or Lafay here could have been an option, but ah well.
Let's hope we'll be more active than in Pologne, and with the right riders.
Good luck all. Reports might only begin tomorrow.

Early TTs with not too good TT riders always gives me the jitters! Despite this, I'll still be hoping for a Top 5 result from Olivier as there is enough climbing to offset the time losses. The support is almost as good as it can get, so excuses can be made about that. Let's see if Caraford alone can keep Olivier in contention after the TTT.
Thanks for the preview Nemo

We don't expect anything from this race. We don't have the climbers for it unfortunately. Maybe Enger can do something on the 2 sprint stages, but that's it.
Thank you Nemo! |

Old man Tenorio has been wheeled out of the retirement home again for this one. He did really well with a free role behind Bagioli in Pologne, I wonder what he can do with his first proper crack at sole leadership? He’s got a good team behind him and some pretty consistent TT skill - nowhere near the highest, but solid enough. Would love if he could sneak into the top-10 here.
Thanks for the preview!

Thanks for the preview, Nemo! Also looking forward to Imladriks reports, not only because of their quality but also because of the good results we get in his races usually
We're here for Ranaweera and he should be able to get into the top 10 and maybe even more. He's among the best TTers among the climbers and though our TTT unit is rather down the list it's not that far off the others - and Ranaweera is in no danger to be dropped by the others.

We come here with 1 goal only. To bring Giannoutsos in as good a position as possible. What he Can do from there Will be up to him.
I hope more for a top 5 than a top 10, but I’m not sure it’s realistic.

Thanks :-)
We came away from here exactly how we intended. Whether we Can now benefit from it or not is another question. But perfect start.

The stage turned out as I feared with Olivier losing a lot of time to our competitors. Let's see if he can turn this around with his climbing.
Congrats to SotD and thanks for the report!
