 [C1] Badaling International
Report by Imladrik

| Year | Winner | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | 2023 | Xandro Meurisse (Lampre - Pinarello) | 2016 | Francesco Ginanni (Gazelle) | | | | | | | | | | | | | 2022 | Jay McCarthy (Amaysim Cervelo) | 2015 | Yuri Trofimov (Tinkoff Bank - Tinkoff Insurance) | | | | | | | | | | | | | 2021 | Elia Favilli (Pas Normal Studios - Mikkeller) | 2014 | Frank Schleck (Vesuvio - Accumalux) | | | | | | | | | | | | | 2020 | Simone Ponzi (Team UBS) | 2013 | Damiano Cunego (Lotto - Cervelo) | | | | | | | | | | | | | 2019 | Edvald Boasson Hagen (Air France - KLM) | 2011 | Frank Schleck (Vesuvio-Accumalux) | | | | | | | | | | | | | 2018 | Caio Godoy (EA Vesuvio) | 2010 | Samuel Sánchez Gonzalez (Festina - Seiko) | | | | | | | | | | | | | 2017 | Peter Sagan (Moser - Sygic) | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
| 1 | Xandro Meurisse | Lampre - Pinarello | 5h23'38 | | | | | | | | | | | | | 2 | Andrea Bagioli | McCormick Pro Cycling | 12" | | | | | | | | | | | | | 3 | Mauri Vansevenant | Fastned | 18" | | | | | | | | | | | | | 4 | Sergio Higuita | Los Pollos Hermanos | s.t. | | | | | | | | | | | | | 5 | Aurelien Paret-Peintre | Ekoi - Le Creuset | s.t. | | | | | | | | | | | | | 6 | Odd Christian Eiking | Gjensidige Pro Cycling Team | s.t. | | | | | | | | | | | | | 7 | Wilco Kelderman | Colombini Cycling | s.t. | | | | | | | | | | | | | 8 | Nikias Arndt | DuckDuckGo - Everesting | 30" | | | | | | | | | | | | | 9 | Giovanni Carboni | Sony - Force India | s.t. | | | | | | | | | | | | | 10 | Robert Stannard | DuckDuckGo - Everesting | s.t. | | | | | | | | | | | |
Last year's winner Xandro Meurisse (Specialized) is again on the start (and favourite) list. Although the bookmakers place him fifth in the betting odds. He is preceded by 2023 runner-up Andrea Bagioli among others, who made the switch from McCormick Pro Cycling to Indosat Ooredoo during the off-season. Australian Robert Stannard (Everesting) looks like the man to beat with his extensive training in the hills department. He already finished 10th here last year. Aurelien Paret-Peintre (Ekoi - Le Creuset) is another top performer from 2023 who returns to this Chinese race for manager kandesbuzler. Next to Meurisse we have another former winner in Caio Godoy (Team UBS - transferred from EA Vesuvio). Bushwackers has another capable leader in German Emanuel Buchmann. Marc Hirschi (Sauber Petronas) and Tomohiro Kinoshita (Minions) are ranked second and third on the favourites list.
Then we see several teams who can opt for a duo leadership: ISA - Hexacta (Andres Paez and Joshua Edmondson), Bralirwa-Cegeka (Simone Velasco and Natnael Tesfatsion or Dylan Teuns), Llapi-Vita (Bruno Borges and Sergey Luchshenko), Team Popo4Ever p/b Morshynska (Mark Padun and Roman Gladysh) and Lotto-Caloi (Lilian Calmejane and Petr Vakoc). Certainly don't rule the other PCT leaders like Mantas Januskevicius (DK Zalgiris), Fausto Masnada (Kraftwerk Man Machine), Michal Schlegel (Tryg-Eni), Laurens De Plus (Lierse SK - Pizza Ullo) and Jhonatan Narvaez (McCormick).
Quinten Hermans (Duvel-Tsingtao) is looking to score on the PCT scene after winning the C2 opener Gisborne GP. He is joined by other CT leaders like Gonzalo Serrano (Euskadi-Murias), Gianni Moscon (Cervelo Test Team), Sven Erik Bystrom (Ethiopian Airlines) and Matevz Govekar (Trans Looney Tunes).

De Plus is way down on the favourites lists, but I hope those mountains leading up to the Bada Bing can be selective and we get a top 10. Thanks for the preview!
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Time for our season debut and it looks like we've got a good chance of starting off with a bang, hopefully those harder climbs near the end give us the chance to beat Stannard and Kinoshita

Another race that ended in a mass sprint last year though greatly reduced about 15 to the line the hope is we can get multiple guys in the top 25 to boost the scoring with a top 10 from Moscon which would be a successful race for us if we can match the 36 points from Gisborne |

Hermans, I see, is listed among the favourites, but Lyu has the HL/MT combo that will hopefully do him well if this becomes more selective - plus he should be very concerned about delivering for Tsingtao in our only race of the year in China. Ideally both Hermans and Lyu can score some points here.
Thanks for the preview Laurens!

Bystrom doesn't compare too badly to the favourites, except for his poor climbing ability, which I'm afraid will be the deciding factor. If the race is less hard than expected, he could be in or around the top 10, but I think it's more likely this is a bit of a wasted race day for him.

No 1-2 punch from us this year after the sale of Turgis but I hope that Meurisse will still be in the top 5ish once we reach the finish line. Thanks for the preview and best of luck to everyone!

Given how Kinoshita did in the last WC I do think a good result is possible here. But given he's Japanese and this race is in China I'm sure tricks are being played

After a 0-pointer in DUC our season really starts here. Hopefully APP can repeat last seasons result as another low score would probably put us to the bottom of the rankings early in the season with only a tradionally low-scoring home race in Guadeloupe still remaining this month. But the gut-feeling isn't really good ...

First real test for Stannard. Expectations are high but seeing how useless the rest of the team has been we really need a performance from him. Thanks for the preview, Laurens!

First proper test for Bagioli here - he did very well last season as an unmaxed rider, but did also have a great team around him and was probably on a very good day. Hoping for at least a top-10 here.
Thanks for the preview!

13th is slightly disappointing and I can't be happy with the way we raced, but is was a very tough field anyway. Thanks for the report!

Much better stuff from Narvaez after the debacle Down Under, don't expect to win in this field but need to harvest the top 10's. Thought Bagioli was going to get them in the end but couldn't quite get there. High risk gamble from Stannard that did not pay off, commiserations to Gus.
Thanks for the report.

Below par from us but not a 0 pointer like some CT guys here in a stacked field and in fairness to Moscon he's actually made the first group this time just not had it at the end |

Buchmann was one of the most underperforming riders in the division last year, nice to see him actually frying from the get go this time around, congrats to Bush on the win! Top 5 most definitely something to be happy with no one was expecting the repeat from Xandro and with Batti snatching the final depth point in 25th this is a solid race for us! Thanks for the report!

Congrats Bushwackers with the win Hirschi and Bagioli seems like a pretty logical podium when Stannard was reeled in. From our POV we’re happy to have Vakoc in 6th. I feared he would clash with Calmejane, but he was in narnia again
Thanks Imladrik for the report!

Thud! With the team and especially Lyu coming back to earth in its home race, Tsingtao management is deeply ashamed by the performance and is said to have sent representatives to Babymetal and Sony - Force India headquarters to learn the proper techniques for seppuku.
A 0 pointer, but at least it was in a properly competitive race. On to Tachira!

Kinoshita was positioned well but couldn't really bolster in the sprint. Seventh is decent but Kinoshita needs to bang in the results.
Thanks for the report Imladrik and congrats Bushwackers
