[PTHC] Tour of East Java
The four stages are pretty clearly designed for certain kinds of riders with 3 stages for sprinters and one mountain stage to decide the GC.
The roll of honor of this race includes some of the biggest names in the entire MGUCI with Silvio Herklotz being the only one with more than one GC win. But the German isn’t here to add a third win, so Yates and Beltran are the only former winners at the start.
Previous winners:
Spoiler
| Year | Winner | | | | | | | | | 2022 | Silvio Herklotz (Team Puma - SAP) | | 2021 | Silvio Herklotz (Team Puma - SAP) | | 2020 | Taylor Phinney (Isostar - Specialized) | | 2019 | Eduard Alexander Beltran (Swisslion Cycling Team) | | 2018 | Adam Yates (Ayubowan!) | | 2017 | Natnael Berhane (Eritel - Sonatrach) | | 2016 | Tiago Machado (Porto - Prio) | | 2015 | Julien Berard (Fablok - Dunlop) | | 2013 | Allan Davis (Hollister Pro Cycling) |
2022 results:

The field consists of 7 PT teams and 12 PCT teams. Given the profile of the race there are only two groups of riders to look out for: sprinters for stages 1, 2 and 4 and climbers for stage 3 and the GC.
Climbers:
There are some good climbers at the start, but only one really great one: Lecuisinier is clearly the top favourite for the GC and everything except a win would be a disappointment for him. Behind him the fight for the other two podium spots could be fierce as there are a dozen contenders on a pretty equal level for the only mountain stage.

Sprinters:
The sprints should be exciting as there are about 10 sprinters whose skills are nearly indistinguishable.

Everything less than the victory is a disappointment and a failure.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Wow, that's a weak field
In my experience, PTHC races are often the most stacked ones, even more so than some PT races - but this one definitely isn't. I think it's a huge chance for many PCT teams to score big - although the win obviously has to be gone already. Everything else than LPH winning would be a huge surprise.
I guess some PCT managers will now be unhappy with their lineup, as this really looks like a race with some "easy points". Also, the sprinter field is mostly PCT, so I'm looking forward to see many of my rivals doing well here
On the other hand, I'm definitely NOT looking forward to see the Tour de Suisse startlist
Thanks for the preview and good luck to all!

I really hope Novak can repeat from last year, but it hasn't been his season so far.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Thank you for the preview KB!
Should be a straight-forward win for PHL, assuming the breakaway is kept under control. Wellens with a great opportunity for 2nd while anything less than a podium would be considered failure to be honest. He's got domestique support with Fernandez and Rodriguez which should suffice for an assault on the climb.
In the 3 sprinter stages, I'm expecting great performances from Jakobsen who's one of the most well-rounded of the favourites. With support from Hofstetter and Hesters, amongst others, I have high expectations.
Hopefully we come away from this one happy

Hope this goes better than Bennett's last PTHC outing

We have a purpose on every stage here with a good chance to really get a lot out of this race especially if Coutinho finds his sprinting shoes!
Thanks for a great preview!

Was expecting a stronger startlist, so it would be great if Choi can live up to his placing in the favourites and get into the Top 5. He did it in Colombia, so we can hope for sure. We don't have any sprinter here, so maybe a couple of breakaway riders could be possible.
Thanks for the preview kb

Interestingly weak field here. The PpRD potential here is huge for GC riders, so it’s really weird.
Obviously PHL should win here.

Instead of using Cras in more suited events, he will be the leader in this packed field. Top10 not even impossible but can`t be the goal. Hopefully he has some solid form on the climb and can somehow fit into the top10-15 then for small points.
Vingerling for the sprints is a potential small pointer as well. |

Such a surprisingly weak field - and an easy win for PHL.
I wasn’t expecting to get much out of this race, with the usual top 3-4 GC climbers and sprinters in the MG universe oresent. We have 7 riders here - and no real support for Yates which now looking at the startlist could be a problem as he might actually have a chance at a decent result. Would absolutely kill for him to be able to land himself in the top-5 here, we’ve never had a good GC result in our home race. Fingers crossed.
A shame to see Abdul Halil as one of the ‘best’ sprinters. He’s going to get a train and it’s going to kill our point scoring in this race as a result, goddamit. I was banking on the usual strong sprinter field where he could just ride wheels to a couple of alright results, now I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t even land in the top-10 once. Keough and Lutshyn gonna swoop in and take the flat stages at the last second.
Thanks for the preview, and good luck to everybody with this lottery of a race.

How does the break stay away on a 95k stage? Madness.
Thank is for the report, congrats trans.

Kinda makes more sense that it happens on a short stage. Katra is awesome

Not what we want to see, both the breakaway surviving and Jakobsen (4th best sprinter) outside the Top 10. Let's hope the other sprinter stages aren't more of the same!
Good win for Trans though
