I don't have big expectations here, but I'm hoping we still come away with a solid points total with Enger and/or the rouleurs.
Thanks for the preview.

Thank you for a massive preview! Loved reading about every team
I do have expectations here, definitely. Kragh must be a solid outsider here, and he should do a top 10 whatever way the race plays out, I think. The only negative I can see, is Mohoric coming in his way positioning wise on the Poggio, but that has always been okay previously, combined with puncheurs also previously being not prioritized on Poggio. Really hope we'll be in contention for the win, that's what matters, and then it can be anything from 1st to 20th, I suspect |

Given how the game has been playing so far this year, I can't imagine that the puncheurs will have their day here, but maybe I'm wrong. If it does end up being a flatter style of racing, we have both sprint (AKA) and late attack (Per) options. Neither are favorites in their disciplines, and I can't expect anything big, but if one gets into the top 15 and the other is in the top 25-30, I think that would be a pretty successful race. And maybe we'll get lucky and get more - these monument points would be pretty nice.

Ahlstrand for the sprint and Kinoshita for the surprise, covering both bases. Our monument debut might be the moment we pick things up again.

The first time here without Demare in ages (and having had Bennati before, the first time without a favorite since literally ever)...
Truly impossible to predict where we can go with this squad now. Kanter could be an outsider for a good result indeed as the (amazing) in-depth preview noted, alternatively maybe Ganna now gets some freedom for a SKA-esque attacking effort.
Keeping my fingers crossed that we can get something out of this, and even more so that Arnaud can possibly get even more out of it than with us!

Was a tough choice for me whether to send Lopez here or not. Decided against it because i figured the three day stage races would provide a better chance to score big. That part was apparently not so successful so im kinda hoping that the puncheurs dont run away with it to avoid the regret.
I actually feel like Kurianov could be a solid leader for us here. Lets see what he can do...

Thank you for the detailed and comprehensive preview! Jakobsen going to be stretched to get a Top 10 result here but hopefully he can over perform. Cosnefroy may also come up with a late attack and try his luck that way too.
Good luck all

With all the weird (bad) AI in flat stage races, this seemed pretty good. Puncheurs tried to distance the sprinters on the Poggio, but maybe similar to Paris-Nice the climb isn't hard enough and this is classified as a flat race. They still scored some decent results with their attacking riding. In the end three pretty big favourites finished on the podium
I'm obviously super happy with Enger. I don't need depth scoring if he's going to finish 4th. In the 5 years before I can't recall having as much success with sprinters as I've had early on this season, so I'm definitely getting the luck at the moment
Sondre Holst Enger is in excellent form, winning back to back in Tirreno-Adriatico.
Maybe Enger really likes racing in Italy. He's going to the Giro also
Thanks for the report Imladrik

Plenty of guys in orange around Grosu on Cipressa, but he was all alone on Poggio.
He loooked to be in a great position under the flamme rouge, but he was already losing Gaviria's wheel and was really cooked in the final meters. I guess we'll take a top 10 in these conditions.

Once again a version for the sprinter, but at least the puncheurs tried it and thats all i expect from this.
Not a good Evonik race but also not too much expectations so thats kinda fine. We were active in the early break. Didnt really have a realistic shot but at least we tried the impossible..

Very disappointed we weren't really in contention for the win at all. Mohoric being on the front foot on the Poggio, was the closest we got. Must admit I hoped for more from Kragh, who I was surprised to see not take part in the sprint/sprint build up.
Seeing it ended in a sprint, the top 6 makes perfect sense. Congratulations, Scorchio, SotD and Roman on the podium spots! |

Waste of two race days for everyone involved but Rutsch, I'm happy to see him get some experience at the front of a monument where he'll hopefully be found regularly twice a season a few years down the road.
Looks like only less than a dozen sprinters got looked after by the AI, not sure what Enger and Philipsen have that Kanter doesn't though. Their single redeeming factor is +2 hill.
Would've loved to see Arnaud finally get on the podium here, but the result looks fair up there. Congrats to Scorchio for the win, and thank you Imladrik for your great report!

Absolutely atrocious, damn. We've had a decent start to the year, but when the points are really on the table, this is what we have to offer. Couldn't expect a ton from AKA, but after seeing him as a one star favorite, I didn't expect him to miss the first split and end up 77th. We just can't afford those kinds of abominations this year.
Thanks for the report.

Ouuff, after some very good editions of MSR the last years, this was somewhat of a bummer. No real aggression from our side and De Gendt being our best finisher is also a bad sign in the end there
But then again, we are not here with the best sprinter in the world, so once it came down to a pretty straightforward sprint, then we are not the best. But hopefully not a sign for the flat classics to come, as we need to score decent there in order to survive.
Great win for Ewan and ISA, congrats!

Great to see three of the top sprinters doing really well here, especially happy for Ewan and Coquard who had big stinkers in Qatar
Others obviously aren't that happy, with their sprinters missing out on the select group, but at least the big majority of the top favourites was there.
Looks like the new engine clearly favours sprinters in flat classics, with late attackers not being successful so far - although I like the mix of sprinters, puncheurs and even a rouleur (Thomas) up front
Thanks for the entertaining report, and congrats to Scorchio
