An incredibly low amount of PCT managers decided to join the PT fun by asking for a wildcard. In total just 10 teams want to have at least one wildcard, which then spreads to maximum 6 PCT teams per category.
This means, not all races are filled as in previous seasons, though still all teams got a few more race days in PT than usually, which in parts comes down to lower priorities for some races with their 3rd wildcard in a specific category.
The Grand Tours used to have a full pelotons and in some seasons more teams asked for a GT than spots were available. Totally different this season! Just 5 teams wanted to get GT experience and so just 5/6 spots are filled and due to priorities the Vuelta and Giro will see a full field while the Tour de France remains at 23 teams.
| Tour de France | Andorra Cycling Project | - | | Vuelta a Espana | Team Popo4Ever p/b Nemiroff | Desigual | | Giro d'Italia | Lierse SK - Pizza Ullo PCTeam | Valio - Viking Genetics |
Monuments also saw 5 teams interested with 10 spots in total. In the end teams with a GT as well got a bit reduced monument RDs in comparison to the others. Kulczyk and Swisslion with the maximum of 3 monuments while Lierse at 2 and Popo4ever/Andorra at 1.
| Giro di Lombardia | Swisslion Cycling Team | Team Popo4Ever p/b Nemiroff | | Liege - Bastogne - Liege | Swisslion Cycling Team | Kulczyk - Alitalia | | Milano San Remo | Swisslion Cycling Team | Kulczyk - Alitalia | | Paris - Roubaix | Lierse SK - Pizza Ullo PCTeam | Andorra Cycling Project | | Ronde van Vlaanderen | Lierse SK - Pizza Ullo PCTeam | Kulczyk - Alitalia |
The regular PT classics will see all from 22 to 24 teams. Badaling as only race without wildcard interest while the other races halfs in 24 and 23 teams.
All teams with 3 wildcards here except Minions with an additional one due to focussing on classics only.
| Amstel Gold Race | Kulczyk - Alitalia | | | Badaling International | | | | Chrono des Herbiers | Minions | Andorra Cycling Project | | Classique du Grand-Duché | Minions | Kulczyk - Alitalia | | Copenhagen-Malmo TTT | Minions | Team Popo4Ever p/b Nemiroff | | GP Liechtenstein | Minions | Team Popo4Ever p/b Nemiroff | | East Midlands Cicle Classic | Andorra Cycling Project | | | Fleche Wallone | Lierse SK - Pizza Ullo PCTeam | Andorra Cycling Project | | GP Moscow | Team Popo4Ever p/b Nemiroff | | | Rund um Koln | Lierse SK - Pizza Ullo PCTeam | | | Strada Appia Antica | Lierse SK - Pizza Ullo PCTeam | Kulczyk - Alitalia |
Last but not least the stage races and in the past some teams had 1-2 wildcards here. With the small amount of interest all 6 PCT teams will get 3 stage race wildcards! Biggest interest easily had the clashing ParisNice and TirrenoAdriatico as also Suisse/Dauphinee.
So some teams had to miss out despite some average priority.
| Paris-Nice | Valio - Viking Genetics | Desigual | | Praha - Karlovy Vary - Praha | Valio - Viking Genetics | Andorra Cycling Project | | Ronde van Nederland | Desigual | Team Popo4Ever p/b Nemiroff | | Tirreno-Adriatico | Campari/Asahi development | ISA - Hexacta | | Tour de Suisse | Campari/Asahi development | Andorra Cycling Project | | Tour of Northern Europe | ISA - Hexacta | Andorra Cycling Project | | Tour of Qatar | Team Popo4Ever p/b Nemiroff | Campari/Asahi development | | Tour of Tasmania | Team Popo4Ever p/b Nemiroff | Desigual | | Criterium du Dauphine Libere | ISA - Hexacta | Valio - Viking Genetics |

As a small fix was needed, the thread was not visible for couple hours.
Now back online with all wildcards. |

To not get enough interest to fill the PT races... I'm... wow... speechless...

PCT going to terrorize the Vuelta a Espana! Can't complain about these wildcards one bit. Going to be a lot of fun playing the spoilers.

Quite sad though that not more teams were interested in wildcards. I have always done it in PCT (will be the teams 3rd GT) and find it both fun and educational being up against the best, but also really instrumental in talent development.

Yup, there goes all chances of Lecuisinier going to the Vuelta, which was originally the plan. I can accept losing to better PT riders, but to finish behind 2 PCT teams just isn't worth the time...

Don't have any lvl 4 riders or the money to go for more wildcards
I'm happy to go to 3 monuments though. Looking forward to seeing Beltran win Liege and Ciolek winning San Remo

Shame to see the biggest race on the calendar without a full startlist, but of course any team who did not apply would have a good reason. Glad to receive entry into 4 classics from the last bit of budget I had left.

First time I'm not going to race PT races in a long time (maybe ever?). As red put it, having no lvl 4 riders + the possibility of race clashes hindering chances of point scorimg just didn't make it worth losing a rider.
Sorry for that guys, but it just didn't make sense for Duolingo.

I would have asked for some wildcards but unfortunately there was no money left for that

Wow... I was really hoping neither Popo or Desigual would get a GT wildcard. At least they are in the same GT and not in any of the normal stage races
Also no Coppel in any of the TT races, or neither Yorkshire in the TTT
No wildcards in Badaling lol

Can you award some team without the wildcard packages access to the TDF? There is precedent for that from 2015ish when the same issue happened.
Preferably to one that can compete in the mountains with pt leaders

Shouldn't it go to teams who did pay for it though? I think no one of the people who got in would mind riding a 2nd GT

ISA - Hexacta delighted to gain selection for Tirreno in the early spring, Dauphine in the summer, and ToNE as the season is drawing to a close. Rounds out our calendar very nicely thank you!
Our PT stage race wildcard preferences were centred around avoiding race clashes with existing race commitments where possible, so we have the potential to be at full strength at Tirreno and the Dauphine. ToNE creates one clash, but completely different terrain requirements. Last year we participated in P-N in the spring (9th on GC), and ToNE (13th GC, 2nd in opening TTT). Although unlikely to cause PT managers too many sleepless nights, we will again take pride in representing our own interests as well as the PCT more broadly at these high profile events.
In contrast to last season, a downturn in interest in wildcards across pretty much every race category it seems. Of course a space at the Tour is the biggest talking point, and most unfortunate, especially as our organisation missed out on a GT wildcard due to competition for spots in 2018 (an experience that steered management away from considering GT application this season). With so many new teams in the PCT for the first time, as well as teams with level 4 XP requirements, our assessment had been that competition for GT slots would mirror last seasons bun-fight. Obviously we were incorrect in our judgement this time around.
For a couple of organisations, it looks like a risky strategy to hold on to rather than loan out certain level 4 riders needing a whole heep of PT racing experience is a gamble that has paid off!
