Tour of Slovenie
History
| Year | Winner | Team | | 2017 | Kai Reus | In-n-Out p/b Carrefour | | 2016 | Kiril Yatsevich | The Spark Project p/b Bollé | | 2015 | Pierre Rolland | Generali - Kronenbourg 1664 | | 2014 | Yasmani Martinez | Team Nordeus | | 2013 | Martijn Keizer | VolksWagen-Mapei | | 2012 | Domenico Pozzovivo | Vespa - Aprilia - De Rosa | | 2011 | Jose Alarcon | Team IKEA - Bianchi | | 2010 | Julio Alberto Perez Cuapio | Team Energie - Diesel | | 2009 | Edvald Boasson Hagen | B&O |
It's time for the tenth edition of the Tour of Slovenie, being on the calendar since 2009. Over the years the race has had different kind of profiles, ranging from mountanious to time trial heavy. This year the race has been downgraded from C1 to C2HC, and is mapped out as a mixture of hills and time trials. Compared to last year the flat opening stage is replaced by a hilly time trial, and the final stage is a bit more difficult. Kai Reus won last year's edition and will defend his win, as only previous winner in the field. With the added time trial it would seem likely another time trialist with somewhat decent hills capability can add this race to his palmarès. Puncheurs can have their chances as well, provided they don't lose too much time on the time trials. Many contenders in both disciplines and hybrids line up for this race, making it very unpredictable.
Profiles

We open with a hilly time trial, where the hybrids want to get an early lead. Then a hilly stage, where the puncheurs want to gain some time back on them. The sprinters get their only chance in the race on stage three. Then another individual time trial, this time a bit flatter. The decisive stage is hilly again.
Startlist

| Puncheurs | HL | TT | ACC | Time trialists | HL | TT | ACC | Di Maggio | 82 | 62 | 75 | Mottin | 61 | 79 | 55 | Gautier | 80 | 64 | 77 | Olman | 57 | 79 | 70 | Zaini | 80 | 61 | 70 | Reus | 73 | 78 | 61 | Meyer | 79 | 69 | 77 | Martin | 71 | 78 | 72 | Ben Nasser | 79 | 66 | 77 | Sterobo | 62 | 78 | 73 | Siskevicius | 78 | 65 | 75 | Kovalev | 56 | 78 | 75 | Serry | 78 | 63 | 69 | Pökälä | 71 | 77 | 65 | Mendes | 77 | 68 | 64 | Christian | 69 | 77 | 72 | Hategeka | 77 | 66 | 66 | Downey | 67 | 77 | 72 | Hoelgaard | 77 | 65 | 74 | Hussein | 64 | 77 | 53 | Teklit | 77 | 64 | 70 | Hacecký | 63 | 77 | 76 | Skjerping | 77 | 62 | 65 | Marchewka | 60 | 77 | 64 | Sepulveda | 76 | 75 | 73 | Johansson | 59 | 77 | 71 | Haas | 76 | 68 | 73 | Laizer | 58 | 77 | 70 | Kebede | 76 | 66 | 72 | Craddock | 74 | 76 | 68 | Seibeb | 76 | 66 | 73 | Zoidl | 74 | 76 | 69 | Vichot | 76 | 65 | 80 | Kreuziger | 71 | 76 | 70 | Umerbekov | 76 | 63 | 73 | Grabovski | 70 | 76 | 68 | Kadri | 76 | 61 | 78 | Bookwalter | 69 | 76 | 61 | Wahyudi | 76 | 61 | 67 | Bouet | 67 | 76 | 73 | Weiss | 76 | 61 | 74 | Cheyne | 66 | 76 | 67 | Pibernik | 76 | 60 | 74 | Burke | 60 | 76 | 62 | Hugentobler | 76 | 58 | 76 | Abreu | 73 | 75 | 73 | Othman | 76 | 56 | 76 | Roe | 73 | 75 | 74 | Warbasse | 75 | 74 | 65 | Bauer | 72 | 75 | 68 | Gunman | 75 | 70 | 75 | Joeaar | 71 | 75 | 62 |
Di Maggio is the best puncheur in the division but he needs to gain a lot of time on the hilly stages to compensate for his weak time trials. His closest rivals Gautier and Zaini also don't like time trials very much.
Meyer might very well be the best time trialist amongst the top puncheurs. Ben Nasser could beat him on a good day though, and Siskevicius shouldn't be ruled out of the equation.
Looking further down the field of puncheurs, Sepulveda has the best combination of the two skills, and Warbasse with similar stats. These two could be the ones to watch for the GC. Gunman is a dangerous outsider.
Switching to the time trialist, Mottin and Olman lack the quality in the hills to win, and might even struggle on the hilly time trial. Their main objective will be winning stage four, the flat time trial. Same goes for a Sterobo or Kovalev.
The latter's teammates on the other hand, defending champion Reus and Martin, have a decent hill capability next to their time trial skills. Someone like Pökälä and Christian could be classified in the same category as well, though they require a super day to limit their losses.
Craddock and Zoidl classify in the hybrid category, as do Kreuziger, Abreu and Roe. The former two might be considered amongst the major favourites.
| Sprinters | SP | ACC | RES | Sprinters | SP | ACC | RES | Thorsen | 82 | 85 | 56 | Barbari | 76 | 79 | 69 | Salleh | 80 | 80 | 65 | Geschke | 76 | 76 | 70 | Coutinho | 79 | 80 | 74 | Martinez | 76 | 76 | 67 | Wippert | 78 | 82 | 70 | Räim | 76 | 75 | 70 | Korzh | 78 | 80 | 65 | Favilli | 76 | 74 | 67 | Liepins | 78 | 79 | 68 | Morales | 75 | 76 | 65 | Boev | 78 | 78 | 67 | Bole | 75 | 73 | 66 | Manan | 78 | 78 | 67 | Torckler | 75 | 73 | 70 | Sonnery | 77 | 71 | 69 | Breschel | 75 | 70 | 64 |
With only one flat stage likely to end in a mass sprint, a few sprinters made the trip to Slovenia. Thorsen is a name to mention, but he first have to finish inside the time limit on the hilly stage to even have a shot.
Salleh and Coutinho look to be the most likely contenders. Both have a good lead-out in Manan and Wippert.
Other names to possibly take into account are Korzh, Liepins and Boev.

Nice preview for an interesting race!
The startlist comes with the expected mix of pure puncheurs and TT horses. Looking at those hybrids, that should be considered the most promising riders indeed, I have to cheer for my former Oz riders Roe and Gunman. Not sure, if they will handle the road stages too well, but it would be great to see them trying to challenge for the GC honours.

Thanks for keeping the game rolling.
For me this is a race where I have hopes for every single stage but limited hopes for the GC even though it's hard to predict given that no one really stands out in hills and TT. With some luck both Gautier and Pökälä can get a decent result but luck and good form is needed for both.

Barely missed out on Top 5 in last goal'd race, this is another Top 5, Siskevicius better no finish 6th again (and he's 6th on the puncheur list )

A big mix of talent here! Hopefully Gunman and Haas can continue their seasons form. Roe might do well in the TTs. Although looking st the hill talent I think we may be battling for minor placings.
Good luck to all!

Great to see Tony Martin put it all together and get us that stage win, one goal down, one to go
Don't know what to do with Reus though, seems like he's getting worse as the season continues

4th and 6th is a good start for us in the TT, hopefully we can convert one of those strong starts to a good GC place in the end if not both.

3rd is a nice start, but I fear that the remainder will be a struggle

Mottin, Warbasse and Uwi doing very solid indeed, nice start for a race that doesn't suit us that well, but good signs for the coming stages.
Gratz redordead and thanks marco!
