Welcome to an all-new game! Triathlon Reborn (name subject to change) has taken strong inspiration from Ian Butler's CX:AND, but i've made changes and additions to suit my own style and to make something new and unique. For an idea of what to expect go look at CX:AND, or just jump on in here.
About
Triathlon
A triathlon is a multisport endurance race consisting of swimming, cycling and running. The whole event is one continuous race, so the transition between disciplines also matters. Modern Triathlon is run, mostly, by the ITU, WTC and IUTA. It has been an Olympic event since 2000.
The most common distances are Sprint and Olympic. Sprint is a 750m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run. Olympic is a 1.5km swim, 40km cycle and 10km run.
What's Triathlon Reborn?
Triathlon Reborn is a fantasy game. The world of Triathlon has changed, no more Brownlee's or Mola's, and an all new system of competition. The triathletes will be you. You sign them up, help decide their schedules, write their responses to races and news. You make the world happen.
I run that world. I'll bring you reports on the races. New updates between events. Let you know about a few surprises as they happen.
Time Needed
Not a lot at all! Signing up will take a few minutes. Writing a response to a race will take a few minutes. Anything else is entirely optional.
Races will happen once or twice a week, as a target. So it won't be fast. Give it as much time as you want. Put in more and i'll give you more back for your athlete. A Year in the game should hopefully take 4-5 months.
Join
Sign-up
It's easy! Fill out the form below and post in this thread. If you get anything wrong i'll tell you. If you have an questions, ask them.
Remember to try and remain realistic. Set everything to over-powered and i'll make you change it. Male triathletes only. If your athlete comes from a less traditional country, e.g. Indonesia or Oman, they will probably be less strong. Young atheletes will be less strong.
Name, Nationality, DoB (Age) you should be able to figure out. Biography is giving some background on your rider, help build his personality and it will help guide me behind the scenes.
Swim, Bike, Run, Transition, Stamina, Recovery. These are rated High, Medium or Low. High means they are highly skilled in that area, Low means the opposite. Transition is their ability to change between Swim/Bike/Run quickly and properly. Stamina is their ability to handle long distances. Recovery is how well they recover between events or from injuries/illness.
Skill, Weakness. Give your rider a specific strong point and a weak point. These can be anything you want, i'll make it work. Examples: Sprint finish, Bike handling, Tactics, Diving start, Weather, Pacing, Training Knowledge etc. Happy to offer advice if people struggle to think.
Think about it, if your athlete has High Swim, don't give him a Swim weakness etc.
Hidden Stats
All the High, Medium, Low get converted on my side into stat points. These stats are what make the races happen, much like in PCM. Skills and Weaknesses will impact these stats. Age and Nationality will impact these stats.
Every athlete gets a Talent stat generated, the more talented athletes are the ones who will compete for the big prizes. Every athlete gets a Potential stat generated. This is more important for young athletes, as this defines Talent as they get older and more experienced.
The World
Competitions
Triathlon Reborn has two tiers of competition: World Tour, and Tri Cup.
World Tour is the top level. This is what every wants to win. 12 Rounds spread across the world, 7 Olympic distance, 4 Sprint distance and 1 Double Distance (twice Olympic distance).
7 of the 12 events count to an athletes final score, plus the Grand Final which is worth extra points. To win the World Tour, score the most points!
Tri Cup is the second tier. A competition for young talent to show their skills, and for the sub-top athletes to target. 10 Rounds spread across the world, 4 Olympic distance, 5 Sprint distance, 1 Double Distance.
All 10 events count to the final score. To win the Tri Cup, score the most points!
Extras are side events. There are a handful of special events through the season to provide variety and prestige. These can include: The Olympics, The Commonwealth Games, Relay Races, IronMan, and other unique opportunities. The are single events, no overall competition.
Calendar
Most of the calendar is already decided. The full reveal will come later. It runs from March through to October and will visit almost every continent.
But i need a few suggestions from you! I need ideas for races in: Africa, Japan, Spain/Portugal, Australia, Belgium/Netherlands, North America and Europe. Three races are completely unplanned at this point, and upto 8 can replace current plans i'm not sure about.
To suggest a race, put the following form in the thread:
Location:
Description:
Location is obviously where the race is. City is fine, but if it's a specific part of city please say so.
Description is giving information on the race features. Is it hilly? Windy? Famous landmarks? Make it sound interesting!
Anything Else
For the moment i'm only planning on using the one thread for everything, but if this gets good popularity and interaction i'll open up a second Game thread.
Details, Calendars, Results and all sorts will be in the posts below for reference. Please ask any questions, i'm sure some of this isn't 100% clear.

Been waiting a while for this and of course going to play What is the rule of thumb surrounding how good your riders can be if you have multiple ones? I don't want to do many or make them all super good, but wondering if it would fit my plan
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant." [PT] Xero Racing
@Jandal - You can sign-up two or three guys. Whether any of them are good isn't up to you, that gets generated on my end. But a suggestion isn't to put everything at High and put in some less good skills. Although any real issues and i'll ask you to change it
@Yellow - There's not a rush at all, sign-ups will be open for at least a week if not longer.
Update: I said PM me sign-ups, changing that. Just put them in this thread, will be better for everyone to see who's involved and how.
The new Triathlon world gets it's first piece of news today. The newly formed World Tour and Tri Cup are yet to have their calendars released to the public. Work continues behind the scenes to finalise all the events, so talks with carry on with the remaining potential hosts. However some of that business has been long completed.
In anticipation of the 2020 Olympic Games, the Tri Cup will be going to Tokyo!
The second tier competition has bagged itself a rather important event, the Olympic trial event. Tri Cup competitors will tackled the official Olympic course. Starting, and finishing, in Odaiba Marine Park athletes will swim out into Tokyo Bay before cycling and running around the urban resort location.
Local triathlon fans in Japan will know the course well, as it has been host of Japans National Championships for more than 20 years! The Triathlon Reborn challengers will fight it out in May, as Round #4 of the Tri Cup.
Guess I'll kick us off Stats are all relative to each other I guess, e.g. with the South African he has more highs than the Italian, but it was more to illustrate natural talent in some areas but being not so good in others.
Candreva
Spoiler
Name: Raphael Candreva Nationality: Italian DoB (Age): 25/5/91 Biography: Born and raised living on the Italian Riviera, he naturally did some swimming in the sea but never really took to it as a sport though he enjoyed it. He also enjoyed watching (Milano-Sanremo!) and partaking in cycling, and was better at that. However he'd never super-excelled, or found his niche, until he took an exchange to Australia in high school, where he discovered the wonderful sport of triathlon. He entered a few events and found that his cycling and running made him quite a good competitor in these events, even with his weaker swim he found he could pace himself and attack on the bike.
Since then he's trained hard, entered what few races he could and on a gap year took a chance and went back to Australia to see if he still had it before, if he didn't, traveling the country and New Zealand. However, he found that he possessed a very high flair for the sport still and stayed there to train and try and commit to the sport.
Has been participating in top tier triathlon events (no idea what the "in-world" background to this game is ) for a few years - still improving with a wee way to go physically but all there mentally - for the few tactics involved in triathlon, mental toughness and a happy guy - both in life and with his career. His swim is his weak point (as well as being slightly penalty prone).
As I said a mentally well guy, a warm man who's a fair sport but can get a little worked up at times if he (or someone else) gets unfairly treated or he has a crappy leg of the race. Can get a bit iffy with penalties as said if he's pissed off but usually doesn't affect performance.
Stats
Swim: Low-Medium (lower than run but not awful)
Bike: High
Run: Medium
Transition: Medium
Stamina: High
Recovery: High
Skill: Mental/Tactics (on the cycle is what matters most for the latter but he can bluff and outdo opponents very well, knows his competition and the route), Pacing/Toughness (very tough no matter conditions or length, and stays within himself on swim and run where he's not as good. Also consistent between races), Technical (bike handling)
Weakness: Start Dive (gets behind on the swim and can't make it up after that too well), Sometimes penalty prone (sometimes mounts bike early, transition left in a mess etc.) if he's pissed off, especially off the back of a bad swim (getting "accidentally" kicked in the face? ) or bike.
Swanepoel
Spoiler
Name: Jannie Swanepoel Nationality: South African DoB (Age): 18/6/98
Biography: A pretty middle class Saffer of some Afrikaans descent, but his name sounds more Dutch than he is (who doesn't love a good Afrikaaner name?). A jovial character who's up for a laugh and never takes himself too seriously. He does take triathlon seriously though, but it is also his passion.
From a young age Jannie loved sports of all kind but always found himself as fairly average at them - athletic yes, but he lacked that spark to take it to the next level in a ball sport. But he was always good on a mountain bike or in a school cross-country, and when he started to do triathlons he found a sport where he could combine those - and swimming, which he was average at but trained hard once he got into triathlon - and loved it.
For the last 8 years he's always been a top triathlete in first his province), and then the country, and then wherever he went in age-group competition. He's finally made the step up after a successful but not dominant couple of years doing junior races (again I'm iffy on the levels involved in this world) he's moved up.
In terms of his triathlon skills, he's a good (can I say that at least? ) prospect but despite his natural talent and love of racing he's never done a competitive Double and doesn't have the stamina of racers ten to fifteen years his senior. He's a good racer, a very hard and a natural athlete but that, and his total lack of top level experience, is his downfall.
He's a bit outspoken when he feels he's in the right and won't back down even from big authorities when sticking up for himself or others. Would never do anything underhand but is very competitive. However he is a mature head and knows his time is not yet.
Swim: Medium
Bike: High
Run: High
Transition: High
Stamina: Low
Recovery: Medium
Skill: Training Knowledge (will research the course thoroughly and practice it as much as he can, is very good at training right and knowledgeable with his nutrition), ? (more will come up along the way)
Weakness: Inexperienced (first year at the top level), ? (more will come up along the way)
Name: Ryan Bender
Nationality: United States
DoB (Age): 6/23/1995
Biography: Ryan grew up in the eastern United States where he enjoyed playing basketball and baseball. As he grew older he started to realize he had unmatched skill at running and joined the local XC club. As they would train on bikes to make their legs stronger, he knew that he was skilled at that also.
One day after practice his coach mentioned doing triathlons. Ryan embarrassingly revealed that he did not know how to swim at the age of 15. His coach of course thought it would be the perfect time to learn, so Ryan listened and sought lessons.
Fast forward 3 months later and Ryan was able to swim, though nowhere near as good as he would need to be in order to win any competitions. This is one of Ryan;s weaknesses, as he hates swimming and tries avoiding practicing at all costs. He continues to win almost every running race he competes in, and has started to surge near the top from his bike. He's only done a handful of tri's to date and swimming has caused him to finish in the lower middle of the pack in most races. His best finish to date is 11th in a field of 20.
Swim: Low
Bike: Medium
Run: High
Transition: Medium
Stamina: High
Recovery: Medium
Skill: Consistency (Always finishing around the same times/positions), Reliable (Will always show up when he should and stick to his word)
Weakness: Motivation (Often lazy and doesn't want to practice), Hates Swimming (Grew up with a fear of deep water)

@Jandal - Crandreva is all good Swanepoel is all good Will make sure Candreva is the better of the two to give Swanepoel room to grow as he gets older.
@Jdog - Bender is all good
3 sign-ups is a solid start. Hopefully a few more will come in over the weekend. No deadline on anything, because i need enough athletes first. If you don't know much about Triathlon don't let that stop you, things will soon become easy and exciting!
Tokoy announced themselves on the Tri Cup calendar already, in the build up to the 2020 Olympics. But until now there had been no information on the premier World Tour calendar. Today Triathlon Reborn confirms 5 of the 12 World Tour races!
Yokohama
Yokohama is a well know destination for triathlon and the World Tour makes it the only Asian stop on the series. Taking place in May just before the Tokoyo Tri Cup this event will pose a few challenges.
Sprint Distance isn't an issue for the athletes, a hard fast event welcomed by many. The big challenge is competing here but saving energy for the Olympic practice later that week. Will we see World Tour favorites skip Yokohama to build Olympic knowledge?
Montreal + Quebec
A well known double in other sports, the Canadian leg of the World Tour will visit both Montreal and Quebec. The September calendar spot could throw up some weather challenges if an early autumn his the region.
Montreal will base it's race around the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on the Illes Notre Dame, so expect a fast bike leg and run.
Quebec will be much more central to the city, and organisers are promising a tough hilly course for the bike and run.
Two races close together in time and distance, but promising to be very challenging and unique events!
Bermuda
A trip to the Caribbean awaits the athletes early in the year! Planned as Round 2 of the series to be held in April, Bermuda certanily promises to be one to remember! Prone to storms at that time of year we could see a rain affected event, or one in surprisingly hot weather, making preparation tricky.
The race itself will also be tricky. A protected swim in the harbour of Hamilton should be an easy start, but a very rolling bike course provides challenges, and the run looks flat on paper but has some ramps. Oh, and it's the Double Distance event!
Gold Coast
The World Tour Finale! The Gold Coast race closes the season in October and will see all the best athletes come together to fight for the World Tour crown. Unsurprisingly it will follow the route used for the Commonwealth Games, giving us an idea of what to expect. If the breeze gets up, and plan for that to happen, we'll see a slow hard swim. The bike will be quick and open. Expect the race to be decided on the run, keeping this tight right until the last moments!
Name: Damiën Van Sibaer
Nationality: Belgium
DoB (Age): 13/11/1994 (23)
Biography: Van Sibaer started cyclism when was 11, after not good experiences in football skills, and feels immediately harmony with the sport. Started competing after 3 years in local youth races with poor results.Turning point happens at age of 18 when he win regional ITT championships for two years in a row. He collects good placings in mountain TT too. Damiën abandons competitions for few years to devote himself to studies, in Sport University, where he approaches to swimming too. After graduation revert with a number on his back, but needs three years to see him on previous shape, with some good results. With new skills in water, and not bad pace in running, he is now trying to competing in triathlon.
Stats
Swim: Low
Bike: High
Run: Medium
Transition: Low
Stamina: High
Recovery: Medium
Skill: Performance with rain and cold weather, "Diesel engine", energy management
Weakness: Spring allergy, Very hot days, suffer harsh starts
Although 4 athletes doesn't make for exciting racing... There's no time limit on joining, but sooner is better! More athletes join in and i can start putting together more calendar announcements and season previews.
And don't forget, i'm also looking for race suggestions! Especially in Africa, Spain/Portugal and Belgium/Netherlands
Name: Bob Bobson
Nationality: USA
DoB (Age): March 15th, 1999
Biography: *TBD*
Swim: Low
Bike: High
Run: Medium
Transition: High
Stamina: Low
Recovery: Medium
Skill: Acceleration (Bike and Run), following high pace, hills
Weakness: Swim endurance, solo tempo, very little consistency - bad days are very bad
RIP Exxon Duke, David Veilleux, Double Feature, and Monster Energy
Five of the twelve World Tour events have been announced, but only one Tri Cup series race. Today Trithlon Reborn confirms four more Tri Cup series events!
Miami
The Magic City will be host to the opening event of the Tri Cup! Not only that but we'll be starting right on South Beach and taking in most of the island on the bike and running routes. Even the March date won't keep the heat down, as racers can expect high humidity and bright sun to begin the Tri Cup contest. The Olympic distance won't hep either. A very tough and demanding opening race for sure.
Nice
Come June, Round 6 of the Tri Cup will take the athletes to the south of France and a visit to Nice. A historically well known triathlon until 2002 Triathlon Reborn brings new life back to the fantastic french coastal town. Hopefully the town can bring good weather in return.
Athletes can expect a fairly calm swim in the sheltered sea but the challenges come on the bike leg. A tough and hilly course awaits that will put the athletes to the limits before a flat run around the sea front areas. But it will be decided on the bike leg.
Des Moines
The great state of Iowa hosts Round 9 of the Tri Cup. Des Moines hosted the well known Hy-Vee Triathlon. The race begins with a lake swim, which will make it a fast and close swim without real waves or currents to fight against. The bike and run both will go around the city center areas, so expect flat routes. Overall this should be a fast open event with a tight finish, even at Olympic distance it will be hard to shake away opponents.
Wanaka
New Zealand mountains in October? It might not be full blown winter but the Tri Cup finale looks to pose a serious weather challenge for the Athletes at the end of the year. Want to win the Tri Cup, you'll have to face harsh roads and the strong threat of rain and wind.
Swimming in Lake Wanaka could throw up some waves, and cold water, so athletes don't get to ease into this race. The bike and run both include rolling roads, the bike leg especially will see climbing. The run will go up and down more than most other events. A real challenging race, but as Round 10 and the finale of the Tri Cup it seems only right to really test the triathletes.
