With 5 stages, and 3 of them mountainous, the Giro del Trentino is the type of race that climbers will always flock to - and here we go again in 2016, with the race back up to PCT level. We don't have all the top PCT climbers here, but we do have quite a lot of them.
Pozzovivo is the King of Trentino, with two past victories and 3rd in his most recent ride in 2014. A year where Uran could only finish 6th. Runner up to Domenico in 2013 was Kiserlovski, and he is here in service of the race favourite: Denifl. Look out for Martin and Intxausti too. Also Duarte, who was 2nd in '14.
| MO | Denifl | 84 | Martin | 82 | Intxausti | 82 | Úran | 82 | Duarte | 80 | Marquez | 80 | Shikai | 80 | Kiserlovski | 80 | Reis | 80 | Valls | 79 | Brenes | 79 | Pozzovivo | 79 |
But it's not all about the climbs. The opening stage is a team time trial, and there are a fair few individual time triallists here, tasked with delivering as strong a result as possible.
| TT | Cornu | 81 | Van Winden | 80 | Dillier | 80 | Reus | 79 | Viviani | 79 | Úran | 78 | Oliveira | 78 | Goncalves | 78 | Nascimento | 78 | Quaade | 78 |
And there's also a sprint stage. But the mountains scared off a lot of the division's best, so this could well be one of the weakest sprints on the C1 calendar. Or in other words, a great opportunity!
| SP | Von Hoff | 79 | Hayakawa | 79 | Uugunbayar | 77 | Dall'Antonia | 76 | Altanzul | 76 | Thire | 76 | Horton | 76 | Witmitz | 75 | Tuulhangai | 75 |
And here's the full start list:

Go breakaways! We need a surprise result here after Battenkill disaster.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Duarte is going to blow up hard on one stage. Hopefully he can at least grab a top 10, and maybe Tiziano boy can steal a surprise in stage 1. |

I would like a stage win here. I think Hayakawa or Shikai can get it, and it actually looks like Shikai could have a shot at a Top 10 if everything goes well, maybe even Top 5 if we are lucky.
Shimano looks like the strongest overall team to me, but there should be some good challengers in Uran, Intxausti, Martin etc.

As long as we tear apart everyone else in the TTT my guys might as well DNS the other 4
Literally took my first TTT team and no good climbers. Had I known about the field I would have selected Theuns too, but I guess that was everyone else's thinking as well
Thanks for the preview SN!

Looking to take a good result in stage one so that Reis may be able to start the week's race in a nice place.
Denifl sure seems tough to beat on paper, especially with the sort of backuo he has in Kiserlovski. Úran, Martin and Intxausti should be in the mix as well, but after those it's anyone's game. I'm hoping Reis enjoys a good run here.
Thanks for the preview. Good luck guys!

interesting tactic by Fox Sports to send von Hoff with a full set-up here...a stage win in C1 would be great for a CT team

Great tactics by the team to drop our leader and leave him behind by almost a full minute here
With this startlist it doesn't look like Schelling would be competitive anyway, maybe he can go for a breakaway.

Well, that is not the kind of deficit I was expecting us to have. We will have a lot of work to do now.

We lost 34 seconds to the best GC team. There's still hope. |

Jeez, what a victory. Congrats Matt.
Most of the GC teams are still clustered together, thankfully it wasn't too selective.
Thanks SN.

Pretty pleased with that result from my fellas with Cornu and Bret doing their job for the team. Hoping for Delio Fernandez to be in the mix on an interesting sprint stage. Valls is also well set up and has the more than capable support of Jeannesson, Herrada, Izagire and the Fernandez duo so hopefully he can break the top 5!

I'm all about that second last in the TTT. We are waiting for the sprint stage with Steele though. Knowing my luck he will lose

I think the finish from Valls shows he was slightly affected by the early crash but his team mates did a fantastic job to bring him up to a position where he can still bring in a great result!

I can't lie, I thought 31 seconds would be enough to defend the leader jersey

Another big stage race win incoming for Ian's Rancor possibly, at least the stage win is pretty sweet. Also, where's Stromeon at?

Nice to get a good result on both stages so far. The team is doing nicely with the podium on the first stage and that classy ride from Reis on the 1st MTF.
Also I wasn't expecting to see Betilson being named in a report, except for his abandons and crashes
Thanks for the reports SN!

Well it wasn't the best individual stage, but we somehow went into 2nd in the team ranking which counts for something!
