Venezuelan National Champion Manuel Medina heads the field into the first race of the season. British Airways' new signing will face competition from another local rider, Champion's Jose Chacon. A 3rd Venezuelan in with a shout is IrnBru's Richard Ochoa Quintero.
The strongest team in the race is definately Fed-Ex, with Oscar Sevilla, Tom Danielson, Levi Leipheimer, Egoi Martinez and Santiago Botero all here.
Other contenders are: Florentino Marquez (Benfica), Jorge Ferrio (Gatorade), Pablo Perez Marquez (Nippo), Saul Raisin (Slipstream), Konstantin Siutsou (White Bear Steyr)
There are not a lot of sprinters racing here, Lorenzetto (Nippo) could have an easy time at it - unless the B Team riders can have an impact.

I now look at who i've sent... Astarloza plus 6 domestiques... right. Well lets hope he doesn't crash out. So no sprints for me, just a top 10 mountain finish if im lucky. B)
