Trouble with hilly and mountain stages
Areolys
Hey there,

I really have a hard time with hilly and mountain stages as I am unable to wear out the peloton and gain some time on my oponents for a tour and make up lost time on TTs.

I tend to have 4 decent climbers. The best will be my GC, protected from my 3rd best. The Main Helper protected from the 4th best climber. The other 2-3 I use as water carriers and to put them to relay at a high pace to tire the helpers from the other teams out (usually at 80-85).
Usually they are all tired out and the peloton is still complete, or we lost a few riders. I then swich to my 3rd and 4th guy to do the work and let my main helper protect the GC. But I never manage to loose any distance on my oponents.

I have no problems at all on winning sprint finishes. I usually win them all (I play on normal) but I can't figure out how to win a tour, not even a 2.2 one.

Do you guys know of any videos where I can see some tactics that would work? Or could someone explain to me how I can create a gap between me and the rest of the pack?

Thanks in advance!

Look here, some great tips on every kind of PCM stage Wink

And btw, using the dot(free effort bar, third option on the action bar I think)is key when doing mountain/hilly stages Wink

I've read those guides already, but it didn't help me much tho Sad

Are you already playing with 'dot'?
Attack fuction fails a bit in PCM, riding on dot(as said the third button on the action bar) is the key.

Sometimes, it's hard to get the gap though, then you have to launch a short attack and then go on dot, or getting your team to relay at the front, but your leader on dot, get him at the front, and suddenly stop relaying at the front with your team, the leader gets a gap instantly then Wink

Dot is just awesome, use it Pfft

should I use the dot only on my main guy and have him protected by my main helper?
I'll try that then.

Yes.
You can let your main helper & your leader on dot at the start as well, and then protected by your 3rd and 4th best guy. And when both protectors are burned out, you can let your main helper stop being on the dot, but let him help your leader.
That way you can hold on much longer.

It's hard to define on what exact dot effort you have to get on. It depends on stage profile, distance to finish etc.
You have to practice in that a bit Wink

is your main guy one of the favourites in mountains?
do you pay attention to fitness?
fitness has very big value in PCM-12

i have one mountain video on normal difficulty https://www.youtub...6Jlk3tO3eQ
dont think its very useful however..
situation in peloton could be very different from stage to stage)).. as you can see.. a lot of attacks from the beginning and i missed moment to protect nibali with tiralongo..
and front group was very passive at the end.. so winning this was easy

if you need a bigger advantage you must attack earlier and longer no?Smile

No, attacking on mountains isn't really working on PCM 12. Dot or short attack +dot works way better.

Your video helped me out already Wink
But can I use that tactic earlier on and get a bigger gap or won't that work because of the ai and I should make my final move only at 2.x km to go?

also: when I'm in a group should I use maintain position or keep using dot?
Will I recover if I maintain my position compared to dot?

Thanks!

Well, I recommend keeping on dot in a group, since sometimes the pace in the peloton just stops.
Of course, then, you recover better when keeping position, but you lose time if the pace is lower than you'd have when you are on dot Wink

You can win with attack and dot. With even longer attack. You just have to find perfect time for it (pace of group , % of climb). And you will learn that by playing. Also,it is bug of PCM but you can win (harder than previous versions, but possible!)

I don't know what I'm doing wrong...
None of my guys could keep up at Vuelta a Andalucia. They have a form of 82 & 83, still on the final 20-30 km they immediately go into red pulse and quickly loos both red and yellow bars just trying to stay in the group. I don't understand why, because the AI has about the same stats and same fitness... But they can just ride past me with no problem at all even if I keep my guys protected it won't help a thing...

The dot is definitely your friend in that case. You lose much less energy and keep the same speed.

Areolys
hmm, I will have to give it a try in the next race then... I only used the dot for attacks so far Smile

82 form is a bit too low in my opinion. If you are up against riders in top form you will struggle unless you get everything perfectly right. Also, if your riders in addition have less then excellent recovery it will be even harder.

I was thinking I could do a video on mountain stages. Would that be useful, or are there plenty of those for pcm12 around?

Fora ndalucia 82 is quite good. Maybe his riders are crap?

You also have to look at stats like stamina, recovery and restitution.
I've won many stage races in the time I've played PCM. I've tried many different tactics, once I always attacked,at a point I just kept my rider in the peleton. Now I have a very strong(as possible) team when I want to win a stage race. The team-mates are the key to win. I also set a very high pace in the mountains to avoid attacks from other riders, and to maybe drop some riders. Then when the finish is near, I use the dot with my GC rider, and of course I have a rider to protect him. Also remember to use the gel in the menu Smile

A Video On mountains Never can hurt... Also one on hilly terrain would be much appreciated. Smile
I usually get stuff faster if I see how it's done compared to reading about it Wink

As I said before, my team had the same stats and the same fitness as the other riders, that's why I don't understand this huge difference in power...
