There probably haven't been many, if any, occasions when the Izoard has been the smallest climb on the day's itinerary, which sums up just how extraordinary this stage is. Starting with the ascent of the huge Agnel climb, "the roof" of this year's Tour, then passing over the spectacular Izoard, the day culminates with the ascent to the Tour's highest-ever finish on the summit of the Galibier. It will be of little consolation to most that this is reached from its easier side. The last 8.5km are tough and should see an intense battle between the podium contenders.

It's a shame that Liquigas doesn't have a stronger team in the mountains, because they are the ones who would open the race on the first climb.
Hopefully Saxo or Leopard will do something out of the ordinary. |

Velonews: “Tomorrow’s stage will be decisive,” Andy Schleck said. “I hope it’s not going to be a case of everyone watching each other until we get to the final climb (Galibier),” said the Luxembourger.
Another interesting comment as Andy is in a position where he has to overtake Voeckler and Evans + distance Sanchez and Contador if he hopes to even be on the podium. Contador has showed once again that it doesn't matter if everyone is watching each other if you have the legs and go for it and don't look back and stop after 10m acceleration. I am pretty sure that it will be up to Contador once again to make the first move and the Schlecks will only try to follow but will crack eventually. Evans vs Contador is the most interesting battle to me as Contador has to make quite a bit of time to be able to take on Cadel in the ITT. |

This is that really cool stage from the 2008 Giro all over again, but with the Lautaret and Galibier after the Briançon finish line

I think this stage could be quite fun. A team (most likely leopard or saxo) should break open the race on the izoard or even the angell so that we arrive at the final climb with just the favourites left.

i would love to see cadel attack but i cant see it happening due to the fact he is sitting sweat all he needs to do is follow , where as everyone else needs to pull time off cadel and they only have 2 stages left so its cadel vs Spain and Luxembourg with conta n sanchez for spain then of course the schlecks now lets go cadel !!!!!!!

he won't attack. He said so. he thinks he can keep them behind in the TT and bets on that. Well he surely didn't learn from tdf that sastre won. He could have won it, if he had gained more time.

Evans attacking? I'd say it's more realistic that Cavendish wins the stage.

Well I don't think Evans is going to miss the opportunity of taking more time if he is position to do so. But it doesn't make any sense for him to be the one attacking first. If he'd attack and the likes of Contador would follow and be able to counter him, he may totally crack and blow his chances. It's best for him to try to limit his losses first and then attack in the final km's if he really has the legs after the attacks from Contador and others. |
