And how this affects the rankings:
IKEA's Canadan adventure all but secured the title for them, as theres no way back for Wiggle now. Wiggle are sure to promote though, as in the race behind Milka, Bacardi and Pendletons have edged away to put themselves in a prime position for the other 3 automatic spots - Bacardi and Pendletons inparticular with race days to come. 2 further spots seem all but certain to also come available and of the active teams in the battle, its pretty close. Lego and UBS holding the advantage for now, with Petronas and SL Benfica in the way before Santander, Tinkoff, Pokerstars, Bimbo and Mercedes.
Having spent a long time at the bottom, YouTube have now lept up to 19th - so Vespa find themselves in a battle to even make the Top 20 in a torrid season for the Italians. YouTube and Telenor have both now closed their seasons however, and could become targets in this Top 20 battle.
And then right at the bottom all teams are now above 1000, and although BBox are 29th right now, HighRoad must be favourites to finish last with so few race days to call on compared to the French team.

Taaramae remains unthreatened as leader, while Pellizotti's mammoth total of 531 in America has lifted him all the way up to 5th. Monfort is now into 9th, while Van Heerden and Goss have showed strong recent form to take up spots in the Top 15. Gilbert is 18th, Luke Rowe 21st, Cavendish 25th, Flugel 26th and Ben Nasser 30th.

The winners
It seems a shame that IKEA will win the CTour as the manager as not been active. They looked a very strong team at the beginning of the year with Vanspreybrouk, Alarcon and Taaramae. Those three have all done very well - but riders like Flugal, Giaux and Albert have chipped away for them as well.
The bridesmaids - Wiggle - do a curtsy now!
They (ikea) have had to be damn good to beat the likewise highly efficient Wiggle outfit. Ponzi - of course has been excellent with his type of stats he gets more races in and is a great example of youth development paying off. Ignatiev was a good signing and has been raced to optimum efficiency (as rjc says TTing gives pretty much guarenteed results).
Promote or not promote that is the question 
I have to ask this - are Bacardi, Milka and Pendletons going to be seen as 'promoted' if they finish in the top six? If not, i.e. top four non 100% Me teams are considered promoted (including IKEA - you never know G_Larsson may suddenly reappear anyway!) it certainly adds spice to their battle for positions. All three have great punchaers for the big hilly races to come in Ricco, Gilbert and Efimkin.
Who else will go up by compensation?
I have a feeling there may be three extra promotion spots available, but two certainly (Auber and Gazzetta's spots) and Lego, UBS are in pole position. LEGO will be in all the classics, where as UBS will be in some of them plus the Sun Tour. I cannot see their riders winning those but they will probably give a solid enough account. It makes it difficult for the others to catch - Petronas and Benfica are AWOL, but in addition to Benfica we have Santander and Bimbo Nutella (with REd Bull and Quiksilver) in the five team Vuelta Chihuahua. That could give Santander a big boost, they will have good chances in the other races they go for as well. Tinkoff and Pokerstars have outside chances as well.
Mercedes and Red Bull
Sadly nothing short of a complete turn around in fortune for Pozzato and Haedo will see Mercedes go up - Red Bull also just a little short, whilst I am disappointed we will be nowehere near the top ten I am pleased that it appears we will finish in the top twenty.
Youtube rant
The Youtube plan whatever it was has delivered most of their goals and means the stat-deteriating Pellizotti looks like he will be top ten. Meanwhle other good riders like Anton, Niemec, Txurruka have been kept down was this a ploy in hope they sign for a pittance next year? Not sure the contract signings work like that - we shall see.
Sweeping up the rest
When you look at the teams that may well go up this year, you realise that most have this in common - they had a developing year in their first year. This was the positions of the various squads last year:
Wiggle(8), Ikea (9), Santander (12), Pendletons (14) Milka (15), UBS (21), LEGO (23)
With so many teams likely to promote it does give the rest (including Red Bull) a chance to improve their squads. Telenor are looking to expand the area of riders they are looking at - the Scandenavian pot is a wee bit overcrowded. Youtube have a grand plan (see above), Vespa will surely do something different this season has been a debacle (i believe I predicted it) - though goals have been nabbed at least. Pirelli will improve - they do need some big reconstructing though they have an aging squad. El Al, we will see what the inventive Deadpool does.
Quiksilver, Yamaha, Unicredit, Falcon and Intesa have experiented in various races. All five teams have had their moments but will be far more consistent next year I am looking forward to see how they go. Cillit Bang and Bbox will chaffened by the season - a little bothered that Waghlon did not realise his riders for the worlds and barely bothered to register an interest when Bellis won the Tour of Britain. Bbox remain cheerful they at least had the Tour de France to cheer themselves this year
Next month
I have Chihuahua and Faso to report which should be really interesting races. Chihuahua looks a battle between the stage racers on a strange course. Faso is another wierd one 8 pan flat sprinters stages, a short Team Time Trial and a stage with a 12 km cobbled section at the end. Plenty of sprinters and cobblers there as you would expect.
I also have Paris Tours and Giro del Piemonte. Kami has the two hill Italian ones - those will be good battles between the Italians and the other punchaers. Also we have that Sun Tour where we all get to chuck rotten fruit at Jose Alarcon! Lets not forget the unique Duo Normond event and the finale in Japan.

Let's say i can't complain . Nah, i'm extremely happy, promotion looks almost sure now. I do have one question for SN:
Wiggle are sure to promote though, as in the race behind Milka, Bacardi and Pendletons have edged away to put themselves in a prime position for the other 3 automatic spots - Bacardi and Pendletons inparticular with race days to come.
Does that mean that top 6 are automatic promoters now? (Same question as Smowz, actually).
Also, Goss did extremely well this period (Vattenfall, Franco-Belge, i can't thank alex enough for the transfer!). But for his last 2 races (Paris-Tours and Piemonte), it's a big lottery again, so it's all about his position when the sprint starts. Which mostly sucks .
Ricco will still be riding Torino, Emillia and Japan. Kirchen Emillia and Japan (but i have no idea why i put those 2 togheter, probably because they were HC).
I might still finish in front of Milka, although Pendelton's will be hard to keep off, with Van Heerden in Faso. In the hills, i have the edge though. Will be a nice battle.
For whose wondering, i'll be reporting Milano - Torino, Emillia, Yekeratinburg (PT) and Herald Sun Tour (unfortunately for Wiggle, with Alarcon).

I've already got that figured out, youth is the way to go! Letting all the old guys go, will give me some money to play with, though it also depends on what riders there will be available in the transfer season. I'll defiantly still focus on the stage race department, though I should get a guy who can bring some results outside the mountains
That's easier said than done of course.
Top 20 looks possible, though without Serpa and Hesjedal will I probably not close the gap to Telenor.

Apart from the Duo Normand, which I should do quite well in, all my remaining races will be contested by either JVH or Gilbert so I'm hoping for some good results, but of course you can never rely on anything with this game.
Anyway, should be a great end to the season and it seems likely that I will fulfil my goal of a top 10. |

In terms of the rankings, this year was a disaster. In terms of riding the big races, this year was a massive success.
Vespa need a good Italian stage racer I think to get a Giro invite again - unless the course favours a puncheur getting into pink early - so all of Steegmans salary and more will be thrown at such a rider if need be. |

For every Wiggle rider on the rankings list, there is an Ikea man just above him. Literally just above. The biggest points gap is between number 1 and 2 on the ranking. But it's the fact that every single rider of mine is beaten by 10-100 points by an Ikea one that means I've just come up short on one of my goals. Tis a pity, would have been nice to finish with 5/5 on goals, instead I'm still just on 3, with the possiblity of 4. Though that is unlikely considering the race in which I have to perform in. |

Wiggle have once again closed the gap, but with IKEA having the Sun Tour to come, the Swedish team does still look set for victory. Milka and Bacardi have edged past 100% Me into 3rd and 4th - and Bacardi inparticular now look to be in a particularly strong position with both Faso and Japan to come. Pendletons have the same calendar, and still look good for the 4th promotion spot - given IKEA's disbandment.

Falcon is just 6 seconds ahead of Yamaha - but Yamaha have racing left, Falcon dont. HighRoad are also done, so Bbox have the Sun Tour and Japan to score 3 points and avoid finishing bottom.

Well in 2 of its 3 editions so far, Japan has thrown up a surprise winner to either promote a team, or avoid a team from relegation. Maybe this years its Santander's turn?
