From the roads in Hamburg to the open plains in South Africa. Another sprint classic. This time a C1 race.
The course is only 114 km long, but that doesn't mean it's going to be easy. Like Vattenfall a few teams have send rouleurs here to spoil the sprinter fest. The race is also not 100% flat and even ends with a slightly uphill finish.
Only a few of the top class sprinters in Hamburg have come here, but they are sure to make it an exiting race. Kennaugh, Ciolek, Mohs, and Vattenfall runner-up Van Heerden. Or will an outsider like Croket, Haedo or Casper take the win? It's all possible.
My guess:
| 1. | Juan Van Heerden | | 2. | Peter Kennaugh | | 3. | Allan Davis | | 4. | Igor Abakoumov | | 5. | Erik Mohs |
Van Heerden has a good chance to win this, as he was already very close in Vattenfall (a few centimeter, and he would have been the winner). Kennaugh can go his own chance here. Davis and Abakoumov are 2 outsiders who have a good shot at a top 10 for me. Mohs hasn't really been up there a lot this season, but if he gets a good postion, we know what he can do.

Short flat c1 race = breakaway win?
Scrolls down startlist and sees Team Telenor - bingo!
Was the case in the Air Force Classic and in the Cape Argus Cycle Tour - but not I suppose the Down Under Classic or Abergavvenny Crit.
Pokerstars and Pendletons are pretty good at keeping things on a tight leash.
I will predict Davis as the finish looks slightly uphill to take it by coming around Van Heerden as Goss did in Vattenfalls!

Gogo breakaways! I doubt it though, I've had my lucky breaks earlier this season

They caused the split because they couldn't follow the pace on the road bump .
@ SN: 2 chances left, you won Ireland though .

Yeah, good report Kami
In case anyone is wondering I'll wait for another 5-6 stages in the Tour of America before starting Franco-Belge

I think he paid back^^
Maybe he knew that he could perform better if he quits Vattenfall Cyclassics, I don't know
That kind of strangeness happened to my team last season team as Elmiger decided to quit the Tour of Wellington after! he crossed the finish line

Ladagnous in the breakaway again! He was like in the break twice in classics with me too.
Some teams have been really 'milking' these classics LEGO, Pendletons and Milka are always pretty solid on this - good for Ciolek winning here, what an earth happened at Vattenfalls!
I have got the old calculator out and I am calculating that the primary promotion positions (top five) will need about 3750 pts this year. Secondary promotion positions, that is invited to Protour teams, I would say something about 3250 to 3300 points. This is based on seven spots needing to be filled by the way (four promotion + Auber/La Gazzetta/Warner Brothers) and completely non official just Smowz type musing!
This was the last race chopped off of Red Bull's calender - we didn't really have the right riders for it - despite it being in one of areas of rider recruitment.
@Kami: No chance of Pokerstars at those races then!

Ladagnous was meant to be a lead-out man/TTTer but he's turned out to be surprisingly good. and a steal of a free rider at just 50,000 wage. it's been a good year so far . |

I agree, good report Kami.
Solid result for Milka here as like almost all season long. When this season is nearing in the end, it is harder and harder thinking about next season.. I can only say, it will be really interesting and tight finish of this season.
