The major day in this years tour. After today, the KOM winner will be known, the Col du Tourmalet is the final categorized climb in the tour.

Fun Fact: It's 100 years since Lapize called the Tour organisers assassins, since then the Col du Tourmalet has been used 72 times. However it wasn't included in 1992 and it was said "The tour de france without the Col du Tourmalet is like going to Paris and missing out the Eiffel Tower".
In 1913 Eugene Christophe brought his broken bike down from the top of the tourmalet by foot, he was leading the race at the time, he then got help to fix it, he got a time penalty, the man leading the tour before the Tourmalet ended up finishing over 4 hours down.
Tourmalet crossed. stop. Very good road. Stop. Perfectly practicable. stop.

Contador needs to show he is worthy wearing the yellow jersey right now. Schleck has matched him on everything other tha prologue just about, and he is the only one with a stage win in the top seven in the GC. Let's not have another breakaway day (which I doubt will happen, hopefully), please. |

I agree that it'd be a shame if the GC winner ended up with 0 stage wins during the Tour. And since Contador barely can lose the Tour, considering his much better time trial, I somewhat hope that he wins on Tourmalet.

Contador punctures and looses 2 minutes on Schleck, Sanchez and Menchov, sets us up for a 4 way battle in the time trial

It will be a battle of the giants... But it could be a dangerous break concerning riders like:
Carlos Sastre, Andreas Klöden, Nicolas Roche, Bradley Wiggins, Christophe Moreau, Lance Armstrong, Ivan Basso, Janez Brajkovic.
The question is. Are they allowed so much time that they will end up winning the stage? I think a rider like Sastre could win it. Also Basso...
Anthony Charteau and Christophe Moreau will each go for as many KOM points as possible, and will undoubtably be in the BotD.

Allez Anthoy Charteau.
I really like the Bbox team, and it will be much more benificial to them to win the KOM title.

Rumor has it Sarkozy will give Lance the Légion d'honneur on top of the Tourmalet tomorrow.
Just a rumor though, from a Taxi driver who drove Bill Stapleton and then a Cycling Weekly reporter. - So it's probably false then

This is going to be fantastic. I would like to see Schleck win by a large enough margin to secure yellow, but I don't think that is a realistic hope. However, even a stage win would certainly feel like justice and would get him a huge psychological advantage looking into next year.
The Charteau-Moreau duel will make the two earlier climbs worth watching as well. I think Charteau will win, but not by much. I certainly hope he does. |

My never fail prediction: Thor in the break.
I think Contador's chain will fall off and Schleck will ride by being the hypocrite he is. Menchov or Van denBroeck wins the stage unless a break stays away. |

Yeah I hate to see a winner win too much. Share the glory. If you were Bill Gates you would lend a few $ to others in need wouldn't you?
Oh and it takes the excitement out.

Cool, he'll get a fee paid with my taxes now. Serves to be a cheat...
That side of the Tourmalet isn't that hard, the slope is very regular, but the last km is hell, especially with a front wind. That's the side I did in 2007. |

Today is THE DAY!!!! Expect lot of attacks from Andy. Sanchez and Mencov should do something too
There will be probably an early break, but I doubt they will make it to the finish.

They should have 4-5 minutes between them and peloton at the start of Tourmalet to win
