Stage 4 Report

The final stage brings the riders to the ancient city of Chester. In cobbles terms the hardest stage of the race, 6 laps of a course centered on the climb and cobbles of Hill Lane (climb is 1.2k at 7.5%, cobbles are 5.5k and 3 star). The climb awards Cat 3 points on each circuit and there are sprint points right after the cobbles on the 5th and 6th circuit. The circuit also features the Platts Lane stretch of cobbles (2.1k at 5-star) each time round plus an extra time after the final circuit Overall the stage is 228k.

The stage favorites are the top cobblers

It is raining again as the riders head out from the city of Chester. Yellow Jersey pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/grm.png Per already showing himself at the front.

On to the circuit and the Platts Lane cobbles for the first time. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/phe.png Domgjoni trying to get separation joined by most of Rabobank and the race director’s car.

20k gone and about 5k to the first ascent of Hill Lane. Grieg focused on keeping the pace high so no breakaway and the peloton currently in the 3 pieces. GC top 20 riders not in the first split are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/enb.png Lapeira (10th) and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/jur.png Sommer (13th)

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/S4/03.jpg

Soon after Grieg eases off, some attackers get away, and the peloton comes back together. 8 riders hit Hill Lane for the first time with a gap of 1’45. They are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/phe.png Lampawog, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/mol.png Moricz, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/xr0.png Pringle, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/min.png Lecourt De Billot, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/dvt.png Dewulf, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/spz.png Kumara, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/fas.png Robeet and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/fas.png Havik.

Lampawog, Dewulf and Kumara take the points at the top of the climb. Lampawog had 4 points at the start of the day.

As the break hits the Platts Lane cobbles for the 2nd time it is 7 riders. Pringle having been dropped on the Hill Lane cobbles. He is 1’15 down and has been joined by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/yor.png Marit who attacked from the peloton. But the peloton can be seen behind through the rain and are just 1’52 down with Rabobank and Grieg pursuing.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/S4/05.jpg

Lampawog again takes maximum points on the Hill Lane climb, he is up to 2nd in the KOM competition. Dewulf and Kumara 2nd and 3rd. The Philippine rider by far the strongest in the break and he has been doing a lot of the work. Peloton can be seen behind but that is a 3’20 gap as they have slowed again. Marit and Pringle have been caught. 167k to go.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/S4/06.jpg

The first 3 at the KOM pull away from the other 4 and when the peloton accelerates again the rest are caught. With 154k to go just those 3 out front, they have 35 seconds. 3k to the 3rd trip down Platts Lane, peloton down to 117, nobody notable caught out.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/S4/07.jpg

The break is caught with 137k to go and the peloton expands back to 145 and Grieg domestiques take the KOM points on the next climb of Hill Lane.

120k to go as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/phe.png Hoole attacks.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/S4/08.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/fas.png Braet counters and goes by Hoole to take maximum points at the 4th ascent of Hill Lane. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/mol.png Moricz also on the move. Braet has 1’36 on Moricz and 4’23 on the peloton which has slowed right down. The 6 points give Braet the virtual KOM lead.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/S4/09.jpg

The front 3 come together on the Platts Lane cobbles with 80k to go. Grieg and Rabobank have been rapidly closing and have the gap down to 1’19.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/S4/10.jpg

Moricz is first over the top the next time around. Braet second, the latter looking good to win the KOM jersey. Hoole 30 seconds down, the peloton at 2’38.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/S4/11.jpg

With 59k to go it is over for the latest breakaway attempt. The first sprint goes to domestiques.

No attacks and a big group climbs Hill Lane together for the last time. Braet will be the KOM winner, a well-timed escape by him.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/S4/12.jpg

Just after they fnish the Hill Lane cobbles pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/ubs.png Schäppi attacks with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/ubs.png Jacobs on his wheel. They take the bonus seconds but are both well down on GC.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/S4/13.jpg

They have a lead of 28 seconds as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/ekr.png Zepuntke heads out after them. 15k to go.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/S4/14.jpg

On to the Platts Lane cobbles for the final time the lead is 23 seconds. Peloton still 113 riders, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/tti.png Kamyshev leads the pursuit.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/S4/15.jpg

Soon after Schäppi punctures leaving Jacobs on his own.

Coming off the final cobbled sector Jacobs and Zepuntke have a 24-second lead on a 62-rider peloton.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/S4/16.jpg

5k to go the lead is 21 seconds. Back to 95 riders in the peloton but a lot of them don’t have much to give.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/S4/17.jpg

Back into the city, the lead is 19 seconds with 2.3k to go. No attacks from the favorites in the peloton.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/S4/18.jpg

1k to go and the peloton is upon them. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/grm.png Per and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/trg.png Ovsyannikov at the front.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/S4/19.jpg

500 meters Per has the edge on Ovsyannikov. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/brc.png Kuypers is the next man on the road.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/S4/20.jpg

Still the same picture with 300 meters. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/spr.png Nommela coming fast, been a great race for him.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/S4/21.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/trg.png Ovsyannikov just edges pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/grm.png Per at the line.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/S4/22.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/brc.png Kuypers is 3rd followed by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/spr.png Nommela, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/brc.png Girmay and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/jur.png Stewart.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/S4/23.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/gzl.png Kubis is 7th followed by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/jur.png Sommer and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/cdb.png Pedersen. Not a great race for the Dane as he is beaten soundly by the man he was traded for. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/kng.png Tiller grabs 10th just ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/tti.png Senechal.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/S4/24.jpg

The first 62 riders get the same time as the pack mostly holds together. In the GC, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/grm.png Per holds on by 4 seconds, the gap on Stage 2 proves critical. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/trg.png Ovsyannikov is 2nd and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/tti.png Senechal 3rd. The PCT teams come out on top with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/brc.png Girmay taking 4th. Ovsyannikov does win the points competition with Per and Girmay in 2nd and 3rd, a PCT podium sweep. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/brc.png Habimana wins the young rider competition and Grieg is the best team. The only win for PT comes in the KOM with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/fas.png Braet.
