Gosh I don't even know how to start this. Hi guys, PCMDaily crossed my mind this morning as I was thinking about Databases and I thought I'd come around to see how it is doing. Turns out I hadn't logged in since February 2023 (link below should work I hope!)
It is actually crazy to think of that, 3.5 years. This site just is a massive nostalgia hit for me, and seeing how I've created an account back in 2013 is maybe even crazier, since I was only 13 at the time. So let's say it's actually part of my childhood, and so much more beyond that.
Just the banners bring back so much. Andorra Cycling Project, that jersey hits hard and opening the website I see the game is still ongoing and quite active. I'm quite happy to see that's the case, with the tech-crazy and filled life nowadays, this place reminds me of a simpler time.
I don't design routes and PCM stages anymore, I'm not that smart anymore, but god that is a major throwback. Le Duo? Amazing idea (imo lol).
I see through 'Echelons' that perhaps my last consistent posting around here was to share my previews. My blog ended in 2021. I will be honest I don't know how to see my latest posts as I write this so I don't know if I've written since, but if you ever wondered back then or now what I've been up to: I never left the cycling world, and my life does strongly continue to revolve around it.
In late 2021 I agreed to write previews for Ciclismo Internacional. At that time I had just finished college, I needed to work. Well I wanted to work in cycling first and foremost... CI was not a job but provided exposure for me.
But just a couple months after I was contacted by the owners of Zweeler, maybe you know of it. They wanted to create a cycling news website, called CyclingUpToDate, as they had done for Tennis and Darts. I was making only little money and busting my ass off every single day for about a year but it turned into an actual job.
CyclingUpToDate has become quite popular and a major news source since 2023 or so, I'm happy to say. It is my full-time job, I'm the head writer there in case you've ever heard of it, and I've worked as a journalist in races such as the Tour, Vuelta and so much more.
I wanted to create a thread because with a quick glimpse of the website I see familiar names on the website still quite active, it makes me happy to see, and I'd like to write a bit around here. You can PM me or reach out on twitter (@echelonshub) but god damn I am here and wanna catch up ahah!
Welcome back! I was away for a long time myself and came back. Too bad it is no February in Mangame, had you been here a few months ago you could've joined again!
Amazing to hear you have got a job with what you wanted to do!
Hey YJ! So happy to hear you were not only able to continue writing about cycling but to make a career out of it. Crazy to think of how it all started and how long it has been. Similar to Mre becoming a sports writer, it's not surprising at all that your talents have transferred to the "real" world, having read Echelons back in the day. I will definitely check out the site. I got back into cycling a bit this year after some years on the sidelines, so would love to give you some support (though it doesn't sound like you need it!)
Daily is mostly just the Man Game now, but we've indeed managed to maintain our little community in that space. You're always welcome back here in any form!
RIP Exxon Duke, David Veilleux, Double Feature, and Monster Energy
I always love posts like these. Both because I really like hearing from people who thrive in a (sort of) niche field that they're really passionate about (like Mre as well, as bbl mentioned), and because I think it's so cool that pcmdaily has left such a mark on people that they occasionally come back even after years away and find themselves filled with positive emotions (see also the occasional Ian Butler post every few years, which similarly fills me with joy every time).
As the others have said, if you ever feel like getting back into the ManGame, it's still here and doing well, and you'd be welcome any time! Still have some fond memories of doing some reports featuring the legend Bakari
