It's an overcast day in Hong Kong, but the riders wasted no time as the breakaway went early as soon as the climbing began. This our break of the day:

With about 40 km into the race we are now in the flatter portion and the peloton is slowly starting to reduce the gap to the breakaway which peaked at around 5 minutes.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/C2/HongKong/PCM0002.jpg

Into the last 60 km now and the riders are back at climbing and we see the peloton that is now only 2 minutes behind the breakaway is starting to get stretched out.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/C2/HongKong/PCM0003.jpg

The breakaway is done with 40 km left. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/iec.png

Schlegel is the furthest towards the front amongst the race favourites as his team has been very active today.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/C2/HongKong/PCM0004.jpg

The riders are on the 4th to last climb of the day. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/tir.png

Yates put in a small dig to test his legs which prompted pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/sct.png

McKenna to counter.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/C2/HongKong/PCM0005.jpg

The Irishman rode solo for a couple kms, but the peloton is still large with plenty to chase. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/ipc.png

Alexander then goes to the front with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/brt.png

Paulus in his wheel.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/C2/HongKong/PCM0006.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/kar.png

Cerny takes over the pacemaking going into the last 20 km. Karthago have also been an active team today in terms of riding on the front.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/C2/HongKong/PCM0007.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/dwg.png

Rumac attacks on the 3rd to last climb and he forces a gap. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/iec.png

Schlegel is on his wheel followed by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/tlt.png

Rucigaj,

Tesfatsion, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/tir.png

Yates,

Covi and

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/bvv.png

Mayer to the side.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/C2/HongKong/PCM0008.jpg

The rider get back together before the downhill in what is still 50 rider group with 15 km to go.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/C2/HongKong/PCM0009.jpg

WindGuard now take over the front of the race with 3 riders while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/dwg.png

Quita drafts a few places behind. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/anz.png

Lutsenko also has good support at this junction of the race. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/iec.png

Schlegel is on his own near the front.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/C2/HongKong/PCM0010.jpg

No attacks on the penultimate climb as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/dwg.png

Lienhard and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/dwg.png

Velasco laid down a hard tempo. The group has been reduced to 25 riders.

Among the bigger names missing are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/see.png

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/see.png

McCarthy,

Mayer,

Svab,

Paulus and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/sct.png

Turgis.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/C2/HongKong/PCM0011.jpg

Final climb! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/anz.png

Lutsenko wastes no time and attacks! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/iec.png

Schlegel knows he has to follow this move.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/C2/HongKong/PCM0012.jpg

Seems like the Kazakh didn't go all out there so he gets countered by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/tir.png

Yates.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/C2/HongKong/PCM0013.jpg

No rider has been able to get a gap yet. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/lpu.png

Covi goes now and it's pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/iec.png

Schlegel again the rider following. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/tlt.png

Rucigaj,

Glivar and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/ofg.png

Shirota are struggling to hold on at the back of this group.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/C2/HongKong/PCM0014.jpg

Covi persisted with his attack and the elastic finally broke! He's not alone though as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/iec.png

Schlegel stuck to him as the two now descend towards the final kick to the line.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/anz.png

Lutsenko is on chasing duties behind them, followed by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/dwg.png

Quita,

Yates and

Beltran.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/C2/HongKong/PCM0015.jpg

Schlegel paced the downhill as him and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/lpu.png

Covi go into the final kilometer. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/dwg.png

Quita is the main chaser now.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/C2/HongKong/PCM0016.jpg

It's a sprint to the line between two not great sprinters. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/iec.png

Schlegel has the edge with 300 m left.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/C2/HongKong/PCM0017.jpg

But it turns out he went too early! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/lpu.png

Covi beats him on the line to take the victory!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/C2/HongKong/PCM0018.jpg

Quita is a decisive 3rd place finisher.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/C2/HongKong/PCM0019.jpg

Yates bests pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/anz.png

Lutsenko in the sprint for 4th. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/bvv.png

Beltran with good positioning throughout the race finishes in 6th ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/pgt.png

Wirtgen. 8th goes to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/kar.png

Tesfatsion followed by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/fgs.png

Langellotti and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/sct.png

Azman rounding out the 10 top.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/C2/HongKong/PCM0020.jpg

In a race that was more about the climbers than the puncheurs pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/lpu.png

Alessandro Covi rose above the rest to win the 2026 Hong Kong Challennge.
