Stage 4

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/Qatar/S4/01.jpg

It’s the penultimate time that we see this type of profile and these names as the favorites. Not all of them have proven their worth so far this race, so they should get going soon!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/Qatar/S4/02.jpg

Just one intermediate sprint today compared to the two on all previous three stages. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/ced.png Behrens, who was already active on stage 1, takes it ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/ela.png Moutsios and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/ekr.png Katrasnik, then it’s pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/mol.png Demiri and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/ekr.png Arias Villanueva.

Ekoi – Le Creuset is still the dominant breakaway team here, while ELCO’s presence is rather remarkable, given pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/ela.png Farantakis would typically be counted among the top favorites for the stage. But his performances have been vastly disappointing so far, so his team tries to get some TV time this way, it seems.

This group proves to be the most resilient of the race so far, but that ultimately just means that they’re caught with 30 kilometers to go instead of 50.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/Qatar/S4/03.jpg

Despite their breakaway presence, ELCO – ABEA have not given up on the sprints yet and they try to set up pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/ela.png Farantakis on the right hand side of the road, but again, the train is not as close to the front as they may want it. The dominant power with 5 km to go remains Assa Abloy for Green Jersey pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/aab.png Dainese on the left.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/Qatar/S4/04.jpg

With 2 kilometers to go, that is still the case: pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/aab.png Teutenberg and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/aab.png Kiskonen are far and away the strongest lead-out, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/mol.png Halvorsen (supported by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/mol.png Stewart), pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/aai.png De Lie and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/fas.png Vesely make the smart decision to latch on. Everyone else is multiple bike lengths behind, but there is still some ways to go.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/Qatar/S4/05.jpg

And indeed, just a few hundred meters later, it’s complete mayhem. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/evo.png Vermeersch and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/blt.png Hodeg jump to the front with their leaders in tow – alongside almost everyone else. Notably not in that group is yellow jersey pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/yor.png Cullaigh, who’s fallen quite far behind on the left. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/zal.png Kanter also not in a great position.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/Qatar/S4/06.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/yor.png Cullaigh won’t have anything to do with the win today and is in real danger of losing the GC lead. Many of the other main sprinters are close together – who can emerge from this bunch?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/Qatar/S4/07.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/ela.png Gibbons takes the lead with 700 meters to go, could this finally be pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/ela.png Farantakis’ day? He looks strong so far.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/Qatar/S4/08.jpg

But tragically, he gets completely boxed in and looks out of the competition for the win! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/ela.png Gibbons can still do great on his own, but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/mol.png Halvorsen, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/aab.png Dainese and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/blt.png Gaviria are breathing down his neck!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/Qatar/S4/09.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/mol.png Halvorsen and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/aab.png Dainese pass him by as the finish line comes ever closer, but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/blt.png Gaviria and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/zal.png Kanter now, too, are a bit quicker!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/Qatar/S4/10.jpg

And pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/blt.png Gaviria takes it! Finally, the top favorite has the strength and the right timing to get his stage win. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/aab.png Dainese finishes second while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/mol.png Halvorsen holds off pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/zal.png Kanter to take the final podium spot.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/Qatar/S4/11.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/evo.png Kemboi finishes fifth and scores some important bonus seconds in his GC bid. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/ela.png Gibbons gives his team their best result of the race in 6th place, and yet this still feels like a missed opportunity. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/ced.png Philipsen is 7th ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/rab.png Zijlaard, another lead-out who lost his leader today.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/Qatar/S4/12.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/ela.png Farantakis ends up in 9th place ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/aab.png Kiskonen. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/yor.png Cullaigh in 12th and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/rab.png Kooij in 13th both miss out on bonus seconds today.

Which has some significant GC implications, of course: pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/aab.png Dainese is the new overall leader, now 12 seconds ahead of the Brit from cycleYorkshire. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/blt.png Gaviria is up to third, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/cdb.png Rodenberg drops to 5th behind pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/zal.png Kanter, with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/rab.png Kooij now in 6th. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/evo.png Kemboi, the strongest prologue rider of the sprinters, remains in 7th place. But there’s one more sprint stage, one more opportunity for bonus seconds to shake things up, before that concluding time trial.
