 [PT] Praha-Karlovy Vary-Praha
Welcome to the Czech Republic for the 13th edition of Praha-Karlovy Vary-Praha. After three one day editions, this is known as a stage race with high TT focus.
After being won by sprinter in the 3 first editions this turned into the Phinney show with him winning all editions from 2016 to 2021. In 2022 he had to settle for 2nd as Zmorka took his first and only victory before Würtz took the 2 last editions
| Year | Winner | Runner-up | Third | | 2024 | WÜRTZ Mads | ZMORKA Marlen | LAMMERTINK Steven | | | | | | | 2023 | WÜRTZ Mads | WIRTGEN Tom | DURBRIDGE Luke | | | | | | | 2022 | ZMORKA Marlen | PHINNEY Taylor | KEIZER Martijn | | | | | | | 2021 | PHINNEY Taylor | WÜRTZ Mads | SÜTTERLIN Jasha | | | | | | | 2020 | PHINNEY Taylor | WÜRTZ Mads | COPPEL Jerome | | | | | | | 2019 | PHINNEY Taylor | KNEISKY Morgan | KIREVA Albert | | | | | | | 2018 | PHINNEY Taylor | VLATOS Panagiotis | KITTEL Marcel | | | | | | | 2017 | PHINNEY Taylor | COPPEL Jerome | FIEDLER Jacob | | | | | | | 2016 | PHINNEY Taylor | COPPEL Jerome | FIEDLER Jacob | | | | | | | 2015 | BEWLEY Sam | BAUGNIES Jérôme | GUARNIERI Jacopo | | | | | | | 2014 | GUARNIERI Jacopo | BEWLEY Sam | STAUFF Andreas | | | | | | | 2013 | BOONEN Tom | VAN HEERDEN Juan | VAN AVERMAET Greg |
Last year started off with SKA taking the prologue before Steimle won stage 2. The deciding stage was of course stage 3 where Würtz decided the GC by winning before Groves finished the race by winning stage 4
S1: Soren Kragh Andersen (Aker - MOT) S2: Jannik Steimle (Team Puma - SAP) S3: Mads Würtz (Grieg-Maersk) S4: Kaden Groves (Jura GIANTS) Pts: Marlen Zmorka (Oxxo - Frisby) KoM: Gyasi Sulvaran (Carlsberg - Danske Bank) Yth: Ethan Vernon (Jura GIANTS)
| 1 | Mads Würtz | Grieg-Maersk | 9h40'19 | | 2 | Marlen Zmorka | Oxxo - Frisby | + 23 | | 3 | Steven Lammertink | Cedevita | + 52 | | 4 | Harry Tanfield | EA Vesuvio | + 59 | | 5 | Filippo Ganna | Xero Racing | + 1'00 | | 6 | Mario Gonzalez Salas | Fastned | + 1'03 | | 7 | Yuttana Mano | King Power | s.t. | | 8 | Tom Wirtgen | EA Vesuvio | + 1'04 | | 9 | Jasha Sütterlin | Oxxo - Frisby | + 1'06 | | 10 | Egan Bernal | Polar | + 1'10 |
There is one thing that really matters in this race, and that makes 1 team in particular the main focus. EA Vesuvio is present with both the biggest favorites. Würtz won the 2 last editions, he has also been 2nd twice. This is a race he likes a lot! His biggest competitor is the perhaps best timetrialist in the world and his teammate Wirtgen. He has never won this race, could this be his year?
Behind the EA riders there is a strong field led by former winner and 2nd last year Zmorka and recently promoted Dunbar. They are the most likely to be able to beat (or split) the EA guys. Behind them again we have Mullen who is also a strong time trialist who can challenge for the podium.
Moving a bit farther down the list Ganna stands out as he is also one of the biggest favorites for the 1st stage while being a good time trialist. We also have Mano and Ocampo who will be looking for a strong result.
There are many more very strong time trialist but a special mention to 6 times champion Phinney. He is not among the biggest favorites any more but the old man can still ride!
| Name | TT | Wirtgen | 84 | Würtz | 83 | Zmorka | 82 | Dunbar | 82 | Mullen | 81 | Ganna | 80 | Ocampo | 80 | Mano | 80 | Herregodts | 79 | Oliveira | 79 | Tanfield | 79 | Phinney | 79 | Evenepoel | 79 | Howson | 79 | Razumov | 79 | Zakarin | 79 | Goldstein | 79 | Rekita | 79 | Norsgaard | 79 |
Stage 1 is the "big" prologue stage and of course we have Andersen here as the favorite. He is the prl champion and will want to prove that again. Already mentioned Zmorka and Ganna together with Leung might be his closest competitors, even though we should not forget riders like Wirtgen and Herregodts who has proven to be really strong on the short TTs aswell.
Special mention to Kemboi who is the strongest sprinter among the prologue guys. A good stage 1 should make him take the lead after stage 2. Too bad his TT skills detoriate when the TTs become longer.
| Name | PR | Andersen | 83 | Zmorka | 82 | Ganna | 82 | Leung | 82 | Kemboi | 81 | Wirtgen | 80 | Herregodts | 80 | Larsen | 80 |
There are 2 flat stages and that makes several strong sprinters come here to fight for the flat stages. Coquard is perhaps the best pure sprinter and he has had a strong season, but the same can be said about Farantakis for ELCO. Both of them are also strong prologue riders who should aim for the leader jersey after stage 2 together with already mentioned Kemboi.
Together with them we have Aniolkowski who has had a fantastic season in PT. While Peak has had the same in PCT! That could be an interesting "battle in the battle" as we say in Norway.
Halvorsen, Samolenkov and even Vesely proves that the battle to get stage wins will be really tight here!
| Name | FL | ST | RS | SP | AC | PR | Bryan Coquard | 72 | 69 | 72 | 83 | 81 | 78 | Stylianos Farantakis | 74 | 75 | 72 | 82 | 80 | 79 | Artem Samolenkov | 74 | 75 | 71 | 81 | 79 | 70 | Kristoffer Halvorsen | 76 | 74 | 71 | 81 | 80 | 68 | Salem Kemboi | 78 | 74 | 77 | 80 | 80 | 81 | Barnabas Peak | 80 | 73 | 77 | 80 | 78 | 74 | Stanislaw Aniolkowski | 76 | 76 | 74 | 80 | 79 | 59 | Daniel Vesely | 72 | 73 | 67 | 80 | 79 | 56 | Frederik Rodenberg | 74 | 70 | 77 | 79 | 79 | 74 | Roman Lutsyshyn | 70 | 69 | 73 | 79 | 80 | 70 | Riccardo Minali | 73 | 70 | 74 | 79 | 79 | 70 |

Obviously not expecting much here, it's our mandatory TT race for the year. At least we have Norsgaard now who can maybe sneak into the top 20 if he actually has the wherewithal to stay in the group on the flat stages. Also Rodenberg could get lucky on the flat stages. Maybe some breakaway action.
Thanks for the preview!

If the team wants to stay in PT, this is a very important race to make that happen. Will normally lose some points against a Sony (go Zmorka!!!!), but hopefully our time trialists can do similar to Deutschland. Halvorsen with two chances (and possible green jersey points) to help us in our goal to get closer/over to the next safe spot, which is Gazelle.
Thank you for the great preview, Heine, good luck to everyone!

Yuuugggeeee race for us in the relegation battle. Hoping Zmorka can live up to his stats and his form from the season. Hoping Rekita can also get into Top 15. We'll need every point we can get. Not really expecting anything from Hofstetter but hey, surprise me!
Thanks for the preview Heine!

Well, we come here with Farantakis and his leadout + a bunch of 76-78 TT riders. Can’t really do anything but hope for one of Them to punch above their weight really!
Farantakis is here to fight it out with his old mentor, Coquard! Would be fun to beat him on stage 2, as the most likely succes criterium here for us is a stage win and a temporary GC lead.

Not expecting a lot here seeing Phinney`s TT performances all year.
Though his name on the history list is impressive. He surely knows this race well.
Top10 would already be a success I guess. Maybe Vesely can show up as well. |

Slight underpeformance from Zmorka but overperformance from Rekita makes it an ok stage result. Hoping for no goof ups tomorrow.
Congrats to ember and thanks for the report

Aiai, missed the preview! We obviously came here to fight for stage glory with Kragh on the first stage, and super happy to see him succeed
Don't think he has ever kept yellow until the TT on stage 3 here, maybe this year can be his lucky year in that regard? Will take some luck in the upcoming sprint, as several sprinters are within reach.
A very good start stage result wise for King Power too with 2nd and 3rd, while Rekita clearly is aware of the relegation fight Will be an intense TT on stage 3, that's for sure! |

Not a good first stage for LPH if we want to stay in PT, hopefully Halvorsen can rack some points in tomorrow, and the time trialists improve in the long time trial
Congratulations ember!
Thank you for starting off the race with a nice report as usual, Imladrik!

Farantakis within touch, if he could somehow win tomorrow. We don’t have the elite leadout ready unfortunately, and no cannonfodder for the early work, which could be a difficult trigger. I guess I hope to see Moutsios being the one sacrificed early on, and then Cavagna setting up the train for our leadoutrider Zingle.
Being a second behind Coquard doen’t really mean anything as he needs to win to take the lead.
Everyone Else is 14-22 seconds off the pace. I guess it could matter in the end, but I rather expect it to come Down to good vs. bad day on the Long TT and not marginal gains.
Interesting to see King Power outgunning Vesuvio here, and Sony is starting out very strong in their attempt to survive.

Not off to a bad start. Remco is not so great in pure time - trial races so I'm not expecting much from him.
King Power off to a great start. Vesuvio, not so much.
Congrats, ember!

Ouch, Larsen
Not a single Top 5 all year long iirc, which is definitely far less than expected from an 80 PRL guy. Looks like the RDC change hit us hard, not being lucky in even a single prologue... Guess he'll have to accept a 50k wage then, there's absolutely no objective reason to ask for more... Unfortunately, MG wages aren't performance related, though ^^

Congrats ember on the SKA domination!
Decent enough start, most favourites all around the same time. On to the next one.
Thanks for the report!

So close! But I'm definitely not too sad with us taking our standard 2-3 from this prologue. Hoping for an uneventful flat stage and then some good legs from my guys in the TT. Especially Ganna has something to make up for after his recent results were not on level with his early season performances any more.

Good first stage, if Kemboi can get into the yellow for a day then I'll be happy. Otherwise it will be hoping either Hayter or Oliveira get good daily form and grab a lower top 10 finish overall here...
