[C2] Hong Kong Challenge

The Race
It’s the penultimate C2 race of the year and in October it’s obviously a hilly one. There’s a downhill after the last climb, so the winning move might be a late attack over the top.
A big break of 13 gets away quickly. The attackers are Woronieski, Johnson, Lohinsky, Nunes, De Paula, Bourgoyne, Consonni, Tomsic, Singh, Wang, Hayashibara, Lovidius and Todome.
Despite the big number there’s no really strong puncheur in there.
After a long flat interlude the break re-enters the hilly part of the race with 73 km to go and a lead of only 2 minutes.
And Todome as the last survivor of the break is caught with 37 km to go.
The teams seem to prefer the climbers over the purer puncheurs as Moscon is working at the front of the peloton with 18 km to go while a fast men like Korosec and Rumac have been dropped after having done their share of the work.
Only 19 riders enter the final climb together and Moscon isn’t among them anymore. They have 2.2 km to climb and then 4 km of descent.
Paez was the first one to attack, but it’s an effort from Sagan who drops 10 riders clear. With him are Masnada, Hoelgaard, Paez, Smith, Lagane, Schultz, Barta, Raileanu and Gladysh.
And over the top Sagan, Masnada, Hoelgaard and Barta get a small gap to the others!
Most of them came back together in the final km, but with 600 m to go Sagan has a nice lead.
And this lead is enough for a clear victory!
Behind him are Hoelgaard, Masnada, Barta and Paez.
Smith beats Schultz for 6th.
Gladysh, Lagane and Raileanu complete the top 10.
Congratulations to Sagan who showed he still has it!
