Stage 8 Report

A third stage for the sprinters today but a lot of bumps along the 172k. Two sprint points, no KOM points although stage race KOMs have been given away based on less climbing than the first 50k today.

An attack on one of the uncategorized climbs see Biermans and Johansen distanced.

It takes some hard riding but the two dropped do manage to rejoin.

The break doesn’t contest the first sprint but their lead is just 3’06 with 119k to go. Carlberg, Cedevita, King Power and Aker working to keep the lead in check.

By the time the break reach the second sprint point with 59k to go their lead has extended to 3’48, the peloton will need to get refocused now. There is no sprint at the sprint.

The break have not been working well together today with lots of failed attacks. But with 50k to go Uhlig, Biermans and Oliveira have opened up 1’02 on the other 4, this is the biggest gap we have seen. Peloton at 3’07.

Spark, Aker and Carlsberg all help out King Power and the break is over with 29k to go. Peloton down to 132 with a lot of the stage hunter climbers choosing today to give up some time.
