Stage 4 Report

Another hilly stage today, 200k to Sierra de Cazorla but only one Cat 3 along the way, the organizers very parsimonious with the KOM points. There are Cat 2 points at the finish so the winner could get the jersey. Two sprints also along the way.

150k to go the lead up to 13â€™09. Going to be harder to close this down. Xero on the front of the peloton but not really schasing.

At the first sprint with 126k to go only Gonov sprints but he leaves it a bit late and only take 3rd. Poljanec and Chumil with the rest of the points. Xero have upped the pace a little and the gap is holding steady in the 14-minute range.

118k to go, Foldager and Delco attack their companions and so far, nobody chasing. There have been a few other attacks in the break which havenâ€™t stuck.

This one doesnâ€™t stick either as Broxham closes it down.

Another round of attacks right before the 2nd sprint point make for a complicated situation. Gonov plays his cards well and takes first ahead of Delco and Chumil. Those 3 have a small gap on their companioins. Gap to the peloton is still 13 minutes with 72k to go, so this might be a day for the break. Gonov is by far the best on GC in the break, over 4 minutes better than 2nd best Chumil.

The break are back together as they hit the lone categorized climb of the day, the Alto de Baeza, 12k at 3.8%. Peloton at 12â€™31 with 67k to go. All of the Spark team except Gonov had dropped off the back to be with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/snz.png

Afewerki, they are 2â€™59 down on the peloton.

Chumil leads out the sprint at the top but Berwick and Delco come round him to take 1st and 2nd. Peloton still well back and the Afewerki group is even further back, does not look they will be rejoining the peloton.

20k banner for the break. From here on it is steadily up hill and then the last 2k average 8.2%. Peloton at 10â€™43, Xero still doing all the work. In the break Chumil has been sitting on while both Grieg riders are contributing, everyone else is solo.

Just under the 10k banner Berwick attacks. Pelton at 8â€™58 with Rabobank, Carlsberg and Puma now helping with the chase.

An acceleration from Broxham brings Gonov and Foldager to the front. Poljanec seems to be done, he has been working all day for his teammate. 6k to go.

Chumil bridges over on his own. Kusuma and Benedetti are the other two missing from the front of the race but they are only 19 seconds down.

Chumil has 22 seconds over the other 8 as he hits the finishing climb. The steepest ramps come soon. Peloton at 8â€™01, The break definitely getting the jersey, with a big climb tomorrow the peloton figuring they could do with a day off.
