Welcome to the 19th edition of the Deutschland Tour. There are a number of time-trial focused races on the backend of the calendar. The change since last year is that stage 3 has been lengthened from 26.5 km to 45 km. Just in case there are some split shenanigans and the sprinters suddenly start taking the GC from TTers (I totally didn't do that 2 years). Either side of that are still two sprint stages. So apart from the time-trial specialists we have some of the best sprinters here.
With that said let's look at some of the favourites:
| FL | HI | TT | ST | RS | SP | AC | Wirtgen | 73 | 75 | 84 | 76 | 75 | 63 | 72 | Würtz | 77 | 71 | 83 | 78 | 78 | 66 | 70 | Dunbar | 69 | 76 | 82 | 74 | 77 | 60 | 68 | Zmorka | 74 | 66 | 82 | 74 | 75 | 62 | 70 | Kmieliauskas | 74 | 70 | 81 | 74 | 71 | 63 | 69 | Beniusis | 71 | 60 | 80 | 71 | 73 | 57 | 67 | Ganna | 76 | 73 | 80 | 74 | 81 | 69 | 73 | Mano | 71 | 75 | 80 | 72 | 73 | 60 | 66 | Ocampo | 70 | 66 | 80 | 74 | 73 | 58 | 64 | Bjerg | 75 | 68 | 80 | 73 | 77 | 68 | 70 | Lammertink | 74 | 69 | 80 | 70 | 76 | 63 | 68 |
The Wirtgen versus Würtz rivalry has turned into an intrasquad one. Either way EA Vesuvio comes out on top. Dunbar and Zmorka are the best bets to somehow upset the Vesuvio duo. After that we are probably looking at the rest of the dark horses to perhaps get the final podium spot or even a top 5. Kmieliauskas is the easy U25 winner here and should be a fixture near the top of this race for years to come.
All the other 79-78 TTers.
| FL | HI | ST | RS | SP | AC | Farantakis | 74 | 66 | 75 | 72 | 82 | 80 | Grosu | 72 | 72 | 73 | 69 | 82 | 79 | Dainese | 76 | 69 | 75 | 76 | 81 | 82 | Kanter | 75 | 67 | 75 | 73 | 81 | 80 | Samolenkov | 74 | 64 | 75 | 71 | 81 | 79 | Kemboi | 78 | 64 | 74 | 77 | 80 | 80 | Zariff | 70 | 61 | 71 | 67 | 80 | 80 | Jakobsen | 74 | 67 | 75 | 73 | 80 | 80 | Vesely | 72 | 67 | 73 | 67 | 80 | 79 | Lutsyshyn | 70 | 54 | 69 | 73 | 79 | 80 | Kamberaj | 75 | 69 | 73 | 73 | 79 | 78 | Willwohl | 73 | 65 | 71 | 67 | 79 | 78 | Welten | 76 | 69 | 72 | 71 | 79 | 75 | Contreras | 72 | 68 | 73 | 75 | 78 | 80 |
This race always attracts a deep field of quality sprinters and this year is no different. Farantakis is on a roll lately and wants to take the #1 sprinter spot in PT, can anyone stop him? On paper the toughest opposition comes from PCT in the form of Grosu and Dainese. Next we have the PT duo of Kanter and Samolenkov. The German recently finished behind Farantakis in another PTHC stage race, can the roles reverse this time?

With a bit of luck a top 10 here. Not hilly enough obviously.
Vesely might score better as non GC option though. |

It's always difficult to know just what to expect here. With 4 flat stages and a seemingly well functioning sprint train we are obviously hoping for a win or two, but in theory our setup looks more like Qatar than our regular sprint scenarios as we also had to fit in the likes of Ioannidis, Kiriakidis, Christapopoulos and Moutios for obvious reasons.
I hope the constellation of Zingle, Cavagna and Kortsidakis will be sufficient to create the strong setup that we need to make this a good race. It's a very different set of competitors we are up against aswell, so it can turn out bad if we aren't focused. Regardless this is one of the races where I will attempt to analyse and evaluate my setup so I don't provoke bad sprint results in the future.
For the TT's I suppose we are looking more likely to end up between 20-40th with my 3 78TT'ers looking at this startlist. Moutsious is a year to early to really stand a chance to get a U25 podium aswell, so I suspect a low scoring race from a GC perspective - so we need Farantakis to work.
Too bad the TT have been increased SO much, because Farantakis isn't a bad TT'er, and it would have been interesting to see if he could fight for a GC top 10 if the TT would have been 15-20km shorter. I understand the reasoning however.

We’re all-in for the sprints with Dainese. Hope we can grab at least
one stage win.

Important race for us as Zmorka is here. Need him to stay safe through the flats and do his thing in the ITT. Kulikovskiy is also here. Hoping the less packed sprint field can open up an opportunity or two for him.
Thanks for the preview!

Couldn't come soon enough to wash the sour taste left by Denmark away, Bjerg should score amazingly here, anthing but a top ten is a failure

Man, put some respect on Cataford's name - he just finished 2nd in Denmark and was sandwiched between the Zalgiris guys in the TT stage
