Today's final climb looks harder than the one from the third stage so it should shake up the GC a bit more especially when neither rider from the top 3 in the GC can be seen on the favorites list, led by last year's winner pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/enb.png Moscon. In the previous hilly stage we didn't see any of the big favorites at the front and hopefully they will make up for that today

Interesting tactics by Glanbia today as they put two riders in the breakaway, but none of them is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gla.png Scotson. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/anz.png Piganzoli also missing from the breakaway so it will be every interesting to see where the polka dots will go to.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gla.png O'Loughlin, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gla.png Child and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ple.png Zana are the breakaway of the day. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gla.png O'Loughlin is the only one with points in the KoM rankings (4 points), but with a maximum of 24 points to be awarded today it will anyone in the breakaway could potentially win the classification, while with a bit of luck pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/anz.png Piganzoli might still keep the jersey as he sits at 22 points

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ple.png Zana takes the first climb, followed by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gla.png O'Loughlin and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gla.png Child
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/SanLuis/s5/1.jpg

We have the same order at the top of the second climb of the day. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ple.png Zana and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gla.png O'Loughlin are now tied in the polka dots classification
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/SanLuis/s5/2.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gla.png Glanbia might have really destroyed their chances to win the polka dots jersey as even though they are two in a three men group, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ple.png Zana is clearly the strongest puncheur in the group and takes the third climb as well
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/SanLuis/s5/3.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gla.png Glanbia won the two intermediate sprints, but it's surely not what they were after in this breakaway:

Sprint #1pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gla.png O'Loughlinpcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gla.png Childpcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ple.png Zana
Sprint #2pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gla.png Childpcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ple.png Zana pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gla.png O'Loughlin

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gla.png Child was dropped from the front in the long gap we had between the third and the fourth categorized climb. Which means it was even easier for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ple.png Zana to take the points and the lead in the KoM classification
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/SanLuis/s5/4.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gla.png Child was completely empty and was even caught by the pack before he reached the final categorized climb, which gave pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/anz.png Piganzoli the chance to take the last 2 points to tie pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ple.png Zana at the top of the polka dots rankings. But no sign of the Italian at the summit and the last points go to first stage winner, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pbc.png Kopfauf who was setting the pace in the pack for his team
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/SanLuis/s5/5.jpg

The last 2 escapees entered the last 15km of the stage with an impressive lead of around 3 minutes, but the pack was coming really fast behind them. On the small uphill section before the final climb, we saw a surprising move from pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gla.png O'Loughlin who dropped pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ple.png Zana. But right after the start of the final climb, he was caught by the now pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/aab.png Assa Abloy pack who were really setting up a very fast pace in the final kilometers to make up the deficit they had to the escapees
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/SanLuis/s5/6.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/t3a.png Mayer left it really late in the third stage and this allowed him to take a surprise win. It's not the case today as he is the first one to make a move. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Stocek, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/enb.png Watson and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/see.png Montenegro are the first to respond
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/SanLuis/s5/7.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/t3a.png Mayer doesn't have the legs to continue his move and no one takes over the attack from him so it's all packed back together soon at the front
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/SanLuis/s5/8.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/see.png Montenegro sets the pace under the red kite, but it's a huge group. The big favorites missing from the action once again
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/SanLuis/s5/9.jpg

Yellow jersey, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/aab.png Hänninen is near the front and well protected by his team-mates, but well within the last kilometer, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/see.png Montenegro is still leading
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/SanLuis/s5/10.jpg

Just 200m to go and no one seems interested in denying pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/see.png Montenegro the stage win. The Ecuadorian rider move into the first position in the group right before the final kilometer and is somehow still in the lead with the finish line in sight
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/SanLuis/s5/11.jpg

And he takes the stage win! It's quite an impressive result by the pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/see.png SEE Turtles rider, but was his pace really too high to allow others to attack or for whatever reasons they just didn't feel like doing it today
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/SanLuis/s5/12.jpg

A beautiful sight to see for the pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/aab.png Assa Abloy manager with 4 of his riders taking the next positions. But they make a mess out if, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/aab.png Hänninen is only fourth and he loses the first place in the GC to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/see.png Montenegro!
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/SanLuis/s5/13.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/see.png Montenegro moves from fifth to first in the GC thanks to this stage victory and takes the overall win as well. All the riders in the top 4 after the first 4 stages drop one place in the GC, while last year's winner, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/enb.png Moscon enters the top 10, which marks the only other change in the top 10 of the GC after this stage. Uneventful.

No sweat for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eth.png Chavanne for the green jersey. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ple.png Zana has a fantastic final day to win the polka dots, while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/trg.png Sheehan will take white, a jersey which he held from the very first stage. The only jersey that did not change its wearer during the race.
