Stage 3 Report

Stage 3 is the first hilly stage. 156k with two Cat 2s, two Cat 3s and a Cat 1. But the last climb tops out 10k from the finish so expect a group sprint but with a reduced peloton.

The first two by far the best climbers in the group.

Not surprisingly Sobrero and Vandenabeele take the points at the first Cat 2. Aman best of the rest. It is 76k to the next summit as most of the climbing comes in the last 50k of the stage. The break has 4’22 with 128 k to go.

The lead topped out at over 5 minutes but is down to 1’31 with Podium Ambition, Peugeot and Incaline leading the chase. From here the stages get more serious with two Cat 3s, a Cat 1 and the final Cat 2 coming one after another

Sobrero easily takes out the first Cat 3. The peloton has eased a little and the gap is back to 1’41.

Koide and Vandenabeele are the next two over the climb. White is dropped and is never able to rejoin.

Sobrero (22 KOM points) again wins easily on the second Cat 3. Koide is further back. Vandenabeele (14) and Aman (8) take 2nd and 3rd.

Sobrero doesn’t wait for the others and takes out the 2nd sprint solo. He started the day 2’06 down on GC so probably not a threat. The 3 chasers are at 31 seconds, Koide at 1’04 and the peloton at 1’54.
