Week 2 begins with another hilly stage, but with the first two cat. 1 climbs of the race mid-stage it’s probably to hard again for any sprinter to compete.

When the leaders enter the first cat. 1 climb of the race (Passo della Consuma; 14.3 km at 4.5 %) the gap is at 6’49.

The leaders are in the second climb (Vallombrosa; cat. 1; 8.1 km at 7.4 %). The peloton is 5’36 behind and still complete.

The peloton trails by another 6 minutes.

The gap to the peloton is at 7 minutes now with 50 km to go, so a stage win for the break is in the books. In addition the Italian and the Austrian are only around a minute and a half behind in the GC, so even the maglia rosa could be in it for them on top.
