Stage 3 Report

Stage 3 takes the riders 139k to Vernou Sommet. The stage should be decisive in the KOM as there is a Cat 1 climb to Hermitage summit, on the way up that climb there is a Cat 2 and then another Cat 3 later in the stage. This is also the first stage with a kicker at the finish – the last 600 meters average 7.2% and max at 8.6%.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kmm.png Bol is once again the favorite, he improved yesterday, is today his day?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/Guadeloupe/S3/favs.jpg

The first sprint is just 10k in but the peloton isn’t prepared to do the work to keep the break close and they contest the sprint. It is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/taf.png Hansen and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Donaldson again but this time a different Podium Ambition rider - pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/t3a.png Cole. And Cole deals Hansen his first defeat in a sprint. The Nowegian gets second. Peloton at 1’25, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eus.png Sterbini trying to bridge across.

[missed that shot]

Sterbini is unable to make the jump. At the Cat 2 Hansen returns to his winning ways and takes the win over Cole. His lead over Donaldson in the KOM up to 14 points. He is looking pretty safe in that jersey.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/Guadeloupe/S3/01.jpg

Cole goes early on the Cat 1 and Hansen can’t stay with him but he takes 2nd ahead of Donaldson expanding his KOM lead to 16 points over Donaldson. Cole up to third, 19 points down. The lead is around 4 minutes

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/Guadeloupe/S3/02.jpg

Cole also takes the 2nd sprint point, Hansen 2nd.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/Guadeloupe/S3/03.jpg

63k to go, the breakaway is onto the Cat 3. What is important about this is the first kilometer of the climb is the stage finish. The break can see what the sprinters will see as they race to the line next time the peloton reaches here. Peloton at 2’44 with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kno.png Pagtalunan, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eth.png Kajamini, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kmm.png Tesfom on the front.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/Guadeloupe/S3/04.jpg

At the top Hansen goes first and Cole can’t quite catch him at the line. Which is good news for Donaldson as he holds on to 2nd in the KOM competition.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/Guadeloupe/S3/05.jpg

30k to go for the peloton, gap at 1’23, the catch will come a little later today but it doesn’t seem like the sprinters will be denied. On the front are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ipc.png De Comarmond, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kmm.png Tesfom, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/see.png Tuyizere.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/Guadeloupe/S3/06.jpg

The catch is made with 17k to go, the trains already beginning to organize. Also the more intense chase has dropped 30 rider off the back, they are 1’56 down and it doesn’t look good for them, but none of the sprinters or their lead outs has been caught out.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/Guadeloupe/S3/07.jpg

4.0k to go. An acceleration from Kraftwerk has put both the Ethiopian and Kone trains in trouble. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kmm.png Bol still has pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kmm.png Koch, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kmm.png Teutenberg and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kmm.png Harrison in front of him. A fight on amongst a lot of others for Bol’s wheel. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eus.png Carsi (Marin) and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/tzk.png Walscheid (Behrens) are both up there with a leadout man.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/Guadeloupe/S3/08.jpg

2k to go, Kraftwerk have kept the pace high, Teutenberg on the front now, Kone and Ethiopian unable to make up the ground so far. Marin well placed up front next to Bol but there are 3 or 4 riders between him and Carsi, not really a Carsi finish here, Marin might be better off riding for himself. The next 3 are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/see.png Ganjkhanlou, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ofg.png Hayakawa and Walscheid.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/Guadeloupe/S3/09.jpg

Under the 1k banner Harrison pulls Bol a few bike lengths clear. Marin still next, Carsi fought up to his wheel but then dropped back a little. Next row is Hayakawa and Walscheid then pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/enb.png Gibbons and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/taf.png Liepins. But the bigger news is there is a split after the first 14 riders and the Yellow Jersey has missed it, as has Mannien. With this finish there could be time gaps and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eth.png Chavanne is on emergency chasing duty. There is another split after 40 riders and Hansen’s is losing ground right now.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/Guadeloupe/S3/10.jpg

Harrison pulls Bol well clear and he launches with 500 meters to go, it is a tough 500 meters but if anyone in this peloton can do it, it is the Dutch rider. The other riders ahead of the split, in order are, Marin, Walscheid, Hayakawa, Teutenberg, Liepins, Gibbons, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/t3a.png Major, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gla.png Plowright, Ganjkhanlou, Carsi and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ipc.png Silva.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/Guadeloupe/S3/11.jpg

200 meters, Kraftwerk have absolutely decimated the field here and Bol looks to be safe, the only question is if he can get a gap. Harrison could claim second although he might also serve to eliminate the gap as he fades. Major on the front in the next group. Behind Perera has launched his sprint to try and close the gap.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/Guadeloupe/S3/12.jpg

The ties have it, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kmm.png Bol and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kmm.png Harrison go 1-2.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/Guadeloupe/S3/13.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/t3a.png Major is third, then pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ofg.png Hayakawa and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/see.png Ganjkhanlou. Then pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ipc.png Silva. A bike throw from pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/tzk.png Walscheid pushes him past pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/taf.png Liepins and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eus.png Carsi. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/enb.png Gibbons takes 10th.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/Guadeloupe/S3/14.jpg

Sprints from Perera and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kno.png Noppe closed the gap to the leading group and the first gap is awarded after the 88th rider. Both the breakaway specialists, Donaldson and Hansen, miss it.

Perera holds the GC lead by 2 seconds over Bol, the race will be decided tomorrow. Walscheid on 10 seconds, Harrison on 11. The point lead is reversed with Bol ahead by 2 points. Plowright’s 1 bonus second yesterday is enough to make him the U25 leader.

With only a single Cat 4 tomorrow, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/taf.png Hansem has secured the KOM jersey.
