PROBLEM
Here's my situation: the game tends to crash when I try to 'get' to a mountain-stage in the Tour the France in Season 4. It's the 9th stage, from "Bourg en Bresse" to "Annecy". I tried my back-up (dated July 2nd, just before the Tour) but still get the same error. [EDIT: If you fix this, you will notice that the stage thereafter, stage 10, does not work as well]
When I am at the date of that stage, pressing the continue button crashes the game. Even simulating to another day passed that day results in a crash.
My best guess is that everybody at some point will get this error, because there is a bug in the 9th stage, 4th version of the Tour (v1 in the directory CM_Stages).
When you have a closer look at the two stages (stage 9 and 10 ingame) which will crash the game, you will see that they are bigger in kB then the other stages. Maybe it was something to do with it, I'm not a programmer. Anyway, here is a possible 'solution':
SOLUTION
You can fix this problem in a number of ways I guess. I don't know very much about editing stages et cetera, I just want things to work. So:
1. I opened the few files associated with the Tour the France in .../PCM2007/CM_Stages/Variant
2. Located the 'corrupt' stages (Its named 'v1_top_france_grandtour_stage_8.xml' and 'v1_top_france_grandtour_stage_9.xml' , stage 9 and 10 ingame)
3. Replaced that stage with a stage simlar to the corrupted one (one with a mountain finish (mountain=1), similar distance, relief (=4), et cetera). Just look for a stage (you can add almost every stage I think, but just wanted to progress and keep things realistic). I would suggest using stage 10 and 13 from v2_top_france_grandtour, since they are amost similar to the ones deleted.
4. Started the game and simulated the two stages!
5. Everything works fine and you can continue playing
