Welcome to the 16th edition of the Herald Sun Tour where the time trialists get to fight over the GC win. It’s really a fairly straightforward race: four sprint stages, and a long-ish 20 kilometers time trial to decide the GC. The nature of the event therefore leads to us having here, the best TTers and the best sprinters the Continental Tour has to offer.
With that said let's look at some of the favourites:
| FL | HI | TT | ST | RS | AC | Viennet | 71 | 66 | 79 | 74 | 74 | 63 | Sterbini | 68 | 66 | 78 | 74 | 73 | 67 | O'Loughlin | 73 | 68 | 78 | 69 | 74 | 64 | Nareklishvili | 74 | 69 | 78 | 70 | 74 | 67 | Verona | 71 | 62 | 77 | 72 | 75 | 63 | Oram | 73 | 64 | 77 | 72 | 72 | 70 | Cardona | 73 | 63 | 77 | 72 | 74 | 67 | Nyoni | 69 | 62 | 77 | 67 | 72 | 68 | Campenaerts | 70 | 68 | 77 | 69 | 71 | 63 | Marryatt | 71 | 68 | 77 | 67 | 74 | 58 | Predatsch | 69 | 55 | 77 | 73 | 77 | 65 | Dumoulin | 69 | 66 | 76 | 72 | 73 | 64 | Hennis | 70 | 70 | 76 | 71 | 72 | 76 | Hamza | 74 | 63 | 76 | 74 | 73 | 68 |
Viennet comes in as the top favourite and he'll be trying to put a bow on Newton's title winning season. And I have to correct myself because all the best TTers aren't here. At least the Gjensidige duo is missing. So the other top challengers for the overall will be Sterbini, O'Loughlin and Nareklishvili. The rest can compete for the final top 5 spot
| FL | HI | ST | RS | SP | AC | Carsi | 70 | 55 | 66 | 69 | 80 | 82 | Zariff | 70 | 61 | 71 | 67 | 80 | 80 | Kennett | 75 | 65 | 73 | 76 | 79 | 78 | Minali | 73 | 58 | 70 | 74 | 79 | 79 | Willwohl | 73 | 65 | 71 | 67 | 79 | 78 | Gibbons | 75 | 65 | 73 | 72 | 78 | 78 | Scott | 72 | 66 | 72 | 71 | 78 | 78 | Norbert | 75 | 71 | 75 | 77 | 77 | 75 | Zhao | 74 | 65 | 68 | 74 | 77 | 81 | Vingerling | 69 | 60 | 69 | 63 | 77 | 76 | Oka | 73 | 67 | 71 | 72 | 76 | 76 | Stocker | 75 | 65 | 71 | 73 | 76 | 77 |
The points jersey is sure to go to the sprinters. Carsi and Zariff are the two fastest guys in CT, although the latter has proven to be a better scorer among the two and he has his sometimes very effective lead out rider in Dylan Page. But they'll have to deal with the CT's best sprinter this season Glanbia's Kennett. Minali and Willwohl can match the Kiwi's speed. After that it's Gibbons, Scott and perhaps Zhao with his very good acceleration.

Zariff and Page just proved in Tropicale Amissa Bongo that they can in fact work well together - Uppsala Classic wasn't a one-time coincidence.
A few depth points from Dennis and/or Kiflay are expected as well from the TT.

Really important we score well here. I think a stage win is doable with Scott or at least multiple high finishes. Marryatt should be able to get us at least a top 10 in GC but would love something a bit higher. An exciting last stage race for us on home turf.
Good luck and thanks for the preview!

If we really wanna fight for one of these additional promoting spots this race may be crucial for us. So if we can score here decently we might have a chance. But as I read from my competitors, its the same for everyone
Thanks for the preview and i look forward to the reports... hopefully

Alright, all bets are off, but was Verona the right choice over Postlberger though?

Really surprised to see Gjensidige's top TTers not attending - that's 2/3 of the division's best time trialists not in one of the tailor-made races for them.
Which should mean that Viennet should add yet another GC win for Newton, barring any weird weather conditions (or really bad daily form). And it opens up some good opportunities for weaker TTers, in the sense that even a 77 TTer could make the Top 5, which I clearly didn't expect. But with Van Moer, Knotten and Politt, three of the Top 7 are absent, making it a potentially great race for some others!
Good luck to all

Would really, really love to take advantage of some of that open startlist. Hopefully Cardona can make an impact here for a top 5 or even better. Oka could even get some back-up sprint results and grab bonus seconds as a decent TTer to make it 4 major scorers for us hopefully.
We're hoping for the best!

Thanks for the preview!
A pretty ideal race for Glanbia to close out on.
Here's what's going to happen- Kennett will dominate all sprints given him a such a bonus second lead that he manages to hold off the TTers. He is after all a decent TTer.
Of these TTers, O'Loughlin finally wakes up and delivers a great day to finish 2nd overall with James Oram 3rd. Glanbia get 300 points and promote!

4th for Willi? I take that, a few points scored and nobody lost time of the rest. SO a decent start.
The only thing that bothers me is that our Team is behind the COntrol Team in the Team Standings
Thanks for the report!

If only it ended with a few hundred metres left. Scott did well for 5th. If we can improve slightly then some decent points might come. It will all end up with what Marryatt can do though in the TT.
Congrats to the winner! And thanks for the report

What was Page doing!?
Ouch, no one in the top 10 despite the strongest team for these sprint stages IMO. Also, where were Mundle and Granigan during the final 10 kilometers?..

Thanks for the preview red, and thanks for the report.
Honestly in this race, we’re stage hunting so any points are gratefully received. Well done to Zhao for hanging on for 6th, I thought he had the stage for a second there but clearly his gas tank was empty a bit before the others.
Still though, a positive start to a race where we don’t have a real proper GC threat due to (shocker) poor planning

Strong showing from Gibbons but it was immediately clear we timed the leadout and his move too early. Still didn't expect him to fade so far back but if he can fine tune it a bit I'm hopeful we can score some points here.

It seems Willie wants to show his value at least at the end of the season. I didnt expect a win from him anymore but even better if he actually does. Great job so far of him and couldnt ask for more.
Thanks for the report and i look forward to next ones, hopefully it will continue for us at least a bit like this. COmpetition is hard though.

So close to the win! Seems our closest competitors are the ones stopping us the most. Congrats Willwohl and Ezeefreak! Scott was great! Hopefully it continues!

Congrats Ezee, only one of those stage wins is allowed though, so please note that your quota has been filled!
Thanks for the report and looking forward to seeing Zhao pick up some more points. Decent start for him so far!

Welp, I've lost the provisional 6th place and have hard time keeping Spark at bay. To maintain my promotion spot, Stocker needs to be as close as possible to Willwohl and Scott and Verona to be the best GC rider from any rider from my direct competition after the TT stage. If not, I have to hope my 'KHJ to Britain' gamble pays off, which is a tall order.
Thanks for the report though

Gibbons is honestly a bit infuriating to watch, if he knew how to time a sprint I honestly think he'd be in contention for the GC lead. Happy to score some minor points but it's not enough with so little left to go in the season.

If I hadn't seen the last ranking update, I would have been furious. Zariff (and Page) keeps disappointing in C2 sprints, but at least it shouldn’t matter too much now.

haha, this looks more like a usual Willwohl result ???? But its okay, we had our time to shine. Important is the next stage, the TT so we can somehow position us with our 2 main guys in top10 if possible.
