Another cobbled monument, the same lineup that we have seen so often in March already. Not the best profile for Polanc but he still can contest for a top 10-15 result and Krists Neilands has repeatedly performed very well here.
Nat. | Name | FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FG | DH | PR | | Tobias Foss | 69 | 78 | 72 | 77 | 77 | 79 | 79 | 66 | 60 | 69 | 68 | 66 | 72 | | Luke Plapp | 71 | 77 | 75 | 75 | 72 | 77 | 74 | 58 | 62 | 68 | 73 | 65 | 76 | | Eriks Toms Gavars | 70 | 75 | 74 | 73 | 71 | 73 | 72 | 58 | 67 | 70 | 70 | 67 | 72 | | Juraj Bellan | 70 | 75 | 69 | 73 | 77 | 75 | 78 | 56 | 62 | 63 | 71 | 65 | 73 | | Filippo Baroncini | 73 | 65 | 74 | 72 | 73 | 76 | 71 | 63 | 67 | 72 | 74 | 70 | 70 | | Jaume Sureda | 73 | 63 | 71 | 61 | 71 | 69 | 75 | 65 | 77 | 79 | 72 | 65 | 61 | | Morne Van Niekerk | 76 | 61 | 67 | 78 | 73 | 75 | 72 | 64 | 61 | 67 | 72 | 64 | 77 | | Nils Eekhoff | 75 | 60 | 68 | 75 | 76 | 77 | 67 | 74 | 70 | 71 | 67 | 64 | 76 |
On paper, the Giro is our weakest GT squad of the year. We enter the race with a double GC leadership of Tobias Foss and Luke Plapp. Tobias Foss already finished 12th last year and has shown that he can be a good GC option while Luke Plapp is likely one of the contenders for the U25 jersey. The rest of the squad is mostly built with the early TTT in mind. The major exception is Jaume Sureda who is hoping to compete for stage podiums in the sprints.
Nat. | Name | FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FG | DH | PR | | Martins Blums | 72 | 77 | 77 | 68 | 71 | 73 | 74 | 63 | 64 | 70 | 73 | 78 | 71 | | Patrick Konrad | 71 | 74 | 75 | 70 | 74 | 71 | 70 | 52 | 61 | 67 | 68 | 57 | 70 | | Jan Polanc | 72 | 74 | 73 | 70 | 78 | 73 | 65 | 78 | 67 | 75 | 67 | 71 | 74 | | Kristers Ansons | 76 | 68 | 70 | 71 | 72 | 72 | 69 | 68 | 71 | 74 | 72 | 69 | 70 | | Alekss Krasts | 69 | 74 | 70 | 71 | 70 | 70 | 70 | 59 | 66 | 69 | 72 | 73 | 71 | | Krists Neilands | 77 | 56 | 69 | 63 | 74 | 73 | 70 | 78 | 71 | 67 | 63 | 71 | 67 | | Fredrik Dversnes | 76 | 67 | 69 | 66 | 74 | 75 | 71 | 69 | 67 | 75 | 77 | 67 | 68 | | Nihal Silva | 75 | 62 | 68 | 62 | 69 | 70 | 77 | 72 | 77 | 78 | 56 | 60 | 62 |
Very little expectations for this one. Blums is our best chance for a result but realistically, we need to hope for breaks or good sprinting by Silva if we want to get some success.
Nat. | Name | FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FG | DH | PR | | P.-H. Lecuisinier | 71 | 85 | 75 | 78 | 78 | 80 | 79 | 65 | 67 | 74 | 65 | 70 | 77 | | Miguel Angel Lopez | 70 | 80 | 84 | 71 | 76 | 74 | 74 | 50 | 66 | 78 | 80 | 71 | 72 | | Pascal Eenkhoorn | 71 | 78 | 73 | 69 | 76 | 77 | 80 | 65 | 64 | 71 | 69 | 67 | 75 | | Martins Blums | 72 | 77 | 77 | 68 | 71 | 73 | 74 | 63 | 64 | 70 | 73 | 78 | 71 | | Patrick Konrad | 71 | 74 | 75 | 70 | 74 | 71 | 70 | 52 | 61 | 67 | 68 | 57 | 70 | | Jan Polanc | 72 | 74 | 73 | 70 | 78 | 73 | 65 | 78 | 67 | 75 | 67 | 71 | 74 | | Alekss Krasts | 69 | 74 | 70 | 71 | 70 | 70 | 70 | 59 | 66 | 69 | 72 | 73 | 71 | | Kristers Ansons | 76 | 68 | 70 | 71 | 72 | 72 | 69 | 68 | 71 | 74 | 72 | 69 | 70 |
You have a hard time finding a more prominent race lineup all season. Lecuisinier and Lopez are forming the super duo, Eenkhoorn and Blums are great super domestiques and Konrad, Krasts and Polanc are quite capable on the mountain roads as well.
Nat. | Name | FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FG | DH | PR | | Miguel Angel Lopez | 70 | 80 | 84 | 71 | 76 | 74 | 74 | 50 | 66 | 78 | 80 | 71 | 72 | | Martins Blums | 72 | 77 | 77 | 68 | 71 | 73 | 74 | 63 | 64 | 70 | 73 | 78 | 71 | | Patrick Konrad | 71 | 74 | 75 | 70 | 74 | 71 | 70 | 52 | 61 | 67 | 68 | 57 | 70 | | Eriks Toms Gavars | 70 | 75 | 74 | 73 | 71 | 73 | 72 | 58 | 67 | 70 | 70 | 67 | 72 | | Filippo Baroncini | 73 | 65 | 74 | 72 | 73 | 76 | 71 | 63 | 67 | 72 | 74 | 70 | 70 | | Jan Polanc | 72 | 74 | 73 | 70 | 78 | 73 | 65 | 78 | 67 | 75 | 67 | 71 | 74 | | Alekss Krasts | 69 | 74 | 70 | 71 | 70 | 70 | 70 | 59 | 66 | 69 | 72 | 73 | 71 | | Nils Eekhoff | 75 | 60 | 68 | 75 | 76 | 77 | 67 | 74 | 70 | 71 | 67 | 64 | 76 |
It's the start of the Ardennes week and that always means Lopez time. Unlike the cobbles team, his support team is constantly changing to some extent but guys like Blums, Konrad, Gavars or Baroncini are relied on heavily.

The rankings are a bit of fools gold with Colombia not done. PHL has to start racing sooner or later

A possibly big scoring month in April with Lecuisinier and MAL both in action as respective leaders. Will be interesting to see how the Giro pans out for you with the team setup you've gone for.

redordead - Luckily, he has to. As long as Colombia is not cancelled, i can live with backloading our good races a bit more. Is there a saying for the opposite of fools gold? When it isnt as bad as it might look? Fool's misery maybe?
abhi - the Giro will likely cancel out gains elsewhere but it will be good to see both of them in action eventually. The start of the Giro hasnt been too great but hopefully that can still change...

No clue what happened there, but this result was definitely weird. Hoping that PHL will bounce back later on - and pretty sure he will.

Somehow Liechtenstein became the worst place to have MAL as super dom for PHL, as the brutal climbs pretty much killed any hopes the former had of a high placing. Do think PHL will come good very soon, and so will MAL

Liechtenstein never was a great place for MAL but i figured he would at least help Lecuisinier nicely. Not sure if that was a massive planning mistake on my part or just plain bad luck. Possibly something in between.

With the season nearing the end, it is time to look ahead at the upcoming season. We only have four riders set to improve before the transfer season but we are very excited about what their development and think that they can play key roles in our quest for improvement.
Aleks Krasts (23) | Stage Race69 | 74 | 70 | 71 | 70 | 70 | 70 | 59 | 66 | 69 | 72 | 73 | 71 | 2024 | 70 | 76 | 72 | 73 | 72 | 72 | 72 | 59 | 66 | 70 | 73 | 73 | 73 | 2025 | 70 | 78 | 73 | 75 | 73 | 73 | 74 | 59 | 66 | 70 | 73 | 73 | 75 | ? | 70 | 78 | 74 | 73 | 72 | 73 | 73 | 59 | 66 | 72 | 75 | 73 | 73 | ? |
Aleks Krasts is the future of Latvian stage racing and we are looking forward to see his contributions to team success rise further. He is now at the point where we expect him to majorly help Lecuisinier in the upcoming season and after that he might start to get his own opportunities.
Kristers Ansons (25) | FighterFL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FG | DH | PR | 76 | 68 | 70 | 71 | 72 | 72 | 69 | 68 | 71 | 74 | 72 | 69 | 70 | 2024 | 78 | 69 | 71 | 72 | 73 | 73 | 70 | 69 | 72 | 75 | 74 | 70 | 71 | 2025 |
Kristers Ansons is a living embodiment of what has been our team DNA for quite some time. Born and raised in Latvia, he has developed into a fantastic rouleur who is super versatile. He will be an important domestique in all sorts of completely different races and he will be especially important as a potential co-leader for flat classics. It's impossible to not find valuable roles for someone like him.
Fredrik Dversnes (27) | SprintFL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FG | DH | PR | Age | 76 | 67 | 69 | 66 | 74 | 75 | 71 | 69 | 67 | 75 | 77 | 67 | 68 | 2024 | 78 | 67 | 69 | 66 | 76 | 76 | 72 | 70 | 69 | 77 | 77 | 67 | 68 | 2025 |
While not the youngest talent, we have been excited about the potential of Fredrik for quite some time as we think he was a majorly overlooked prospect. We think that he can fill the hole that the departure of Mark Dzamastagic left us and are excited to see him in action in those flat classics.
Luke Plapp (24) | Stage RaceFL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FG | DH | PR | Age | 71 | 77 | 75 | 75 | 72 | 77 | 74 | 58 | 62 | 68 | 73 | 65 | 76 | 2024 | 72 | 79 | 76 | 77 | 74 | 78 | 76 | 58 | 62 | 68 | 73 | 65 | 78 | 2025 |
Over the past few years, Luke Plapp has grown into one of the finest young stage racers and he will be crucial in our attempts to be stronger than we were this year. After years of being a team focussed on the classics, we have gradually shifted towards a bit of a stage race focus and with his development (possibly?) finished, we will be even more of a stage race team than previously.

“a bit of a stage race focus”
That’s a bit of an understatement
Amazing talents for you here! Krasts is in the way of a certain greek cheap copy though.

Right now, two of our "big three" are still classic specialists so its not too far fetched to call it just "a bit of a focus"
Krasts and Karatsivis could certainly enjoy a bit of a rivalry the next two years in the U25 category but i suspect that Karatsivis will end up the stronger rider in the long-term once the heavy training kicks in

Always a fan of talent development posts, and even more when the talent is this nice! Plapp obviously a great rider, the kind of guy you'd select on almost every stage he can score in any (MG) prediction game. Right?
Latvian talents getting through the ranks are also very nice, with Krasts the big guy when it comes to stage racing. Looking forward to see you final stat gain decision in a year

Only almost every... yeah that sounds about right
For Krasts, Ive leaned towards the climberv1 path for the final stat gain for quite some time. Mini-Chiarello instead of mini-Foss fits a bit better when i already have Foss and Plapp. But ill be looking at the new season and the new game version and might still change my mind

Following the end of the season, it is time to look ahead at the upcoming offseason. One of the hottest names on the market seems to be Jan Polanc. The monument winner had a tremendous stay at Evonik winning multiple classics and being a key reason for the teams perennial podium contender status.
This era might come to an end as the Slovenian cobble star is looking for a new challenge. Scources with knowledge of the team finances confirm that the difficult cap situation is the main reason for the expected departure. Following the development of Luke Plapp, the team is looking to shift ressources from the classics squad to the stage racing department.
Polanc is a proven star who elevates every squad in every division, has a spotless record in PT in recent seasons and is one of the best possible targets to build goals around with his unique skill set on the uphill cobbles.

Two stage racers and two flat beasts for the new look Evonik. Will be very weird to see Polanc move on but age catches up with everyone I guess. Looking forward to how the team shapes up for next season.

Seeing Polanc in a different team will be weird for me as well but i hope someone makes him a cornerstone of their season plan when his role for me would start to diminish a bit.

The Evonik transformation fever dream just gets weirder and weirder. No classics investment at all from Evonik will be bizarre to say the least!

Hey, i just finished developing two flat attackers. If thats not Evonik like, i dont know what is
Two more years and then this fever dream will end to make space for a new era. No clue yet what or how but its bound to end soon enough.

Would be fun seeing him destroy the cobbles in CT, although I'm sure he'd be very nice in PCT. Also that would be at least one rider Siric doesn't need to worry about next season
