Alongside the Giro, which obviously delivered the most points, also Paris Roubaix had GTM points on offer alongside Amstel Gold Race for puncheurs, GP Liechtenstein for climbers and the sprinter/timetrial event Praha Karlovy Vary Praha from last month.
Some teams as well went for the puncheur classic GP Wallonie in PTHC.
The top Giro performer Gazelle and Aker obviously are high in the full ranking update as well but they were challenged by 2-3 teams mainly.
Isostar in especially came closest to Gazelle in this update due to a good scoring in Praha Kalorvy Vary as also doing pretty well in Liechtenstein and the Giro. Later without using the top riders even.
Evonik had a huge run in almost all races they entered this update. Winning Paris Roubaix clearly must have been their highlight alongside a fantastic Giro with secondary leaders and coming close to the win in Amstel Gold as well with Skujins.
Generali, Volvo, Puma and Tinkoff all did well with more than 1100 points this update but also King Power and Grieg in their fight against relegation opened a gap to the other teams in danger.
Festina being rather low this update and losing massive in their attempt to win the PT title as their Giro despite a decent lineup failed just like Koreztky in AGR. Only their win in Liechtenstein was a highlight this update.

Evonik leading the league just like last month and have a bit of a gap as well. Isostar being the first follower and those two clearly must be named as top favourites for the win, in especially when their top lineups show up in the GTs and their scoring is even better than with their Giro backups.
Gazelle from 18th to 3rd. Last years PT winner is back on track and with Madrazo not being in the Giro, it`s similar as with the others even though a repeat of their Giro performance is hard to do, even for a rider like Madrazo.
Moser drops a bit due to the lower number of cobbles lately but is the last team above 3000 points already and must not be ignored.
Neither is Aker, winner of the Giro GC, that said, this also means Taaramae had spent lots of race days already. Kwiatkowski though won in Wallonie and this could be interesting with some big races ahead for him.
Festina still 6th but really struggling lately and just like Puma need a huge run soon.
At the bottom Indosat is having a huge gap already and are early on looking to relegate again. cycleYorkshire still has a bit of contact but also will have a hard time.
Then UBS, Rakuten, Aegon under the line and Air France just above are teams that all clearly will have to fight until the season end. Riders such as Kinoshita, De Bie or Hagen will have opportunities to change this in the next hill classics but King Power just ahead might have the strongest form rider right now with Lutsenko having won AGR to extend the gap.
Volvo, Generali, Bennelong or Grieg all still in range just like EA Vesuvio, Tinkoff and ISA really. Far from decided yet as teh middle area is very close and can change within 1-2 races.

Individually the Giro performers are taking over. Taaramae might have been expected and in fact is having quite a gap now. Though Malecki up to 2nd is crazy. Likely 3 times higher amount of points than you would expect to have him normally at season end. Pretty impressive to be ahead of Bewley post the cobbles!
Demare following behind Bewley ahead of Degenkolb and Lecuisinier. Later might be a big threat for the individual title as well as he showed huge skills already and still has quite a few more race days than Taaramae.
Bobridge being the best puncheur due to his TT skills while Ponzi despite his decrease is still showing great strength ahead of Kwiatkowski as hybrid puncheur.

No rider in the top30 by now shows why I am sitting in the relegation area really.
Groenewegen as best is good to see that he is performing on a high level, but the points from others are missing.
Mainly De Bie is having just half of the points from e.g. Ponzi, Bobridge, Lutsenko and 200 less than Hagen, 100 less than Koretzky. As 84 puncheur, I had expected him to be at least on their level scoring wise, which is missing 250 points minimum, which hopefully later on won`t decide over relegation or not.
Also Olivier and Valls/Velits hopefully score better in the future. Later duo must go for the KoM jerseys though, something that failed in the Giro unfortunately. First must have more races such as Paris Nice/Liechtenstein and less of his East Java, Hallstatt performances.
At least RD wise the PTHC events might deliver me a bit of scoring late in the season. Clearly a good result would be very welcome. |

Ouch, it was indeed a blow to fall from 1st to 6th, but with 3 absolute no-shows in "key"-races like Giro, Amstel and Praha, what can you expect?
The positive to all of this is that 3rd place is still very close, and we are indeed projected 3rd at the moment. Hopefully Koretzky can stop his newfound bad run, and remember how he "used to perform".
I don't see us have any chance to move back into the lead, even with the Vuelta coming up, as the 2 ardennes races suiting both Evonik and Isostar significantly better than us - and obviously with Isostar having our main rival in Phinney at the Vuelta we cannot expect to overtake them there - Evonik have too much of a margin.
All of Gazelle, Aker and Moser should be well within striking distance though, even if they build on their lead before the Vuelta.

Thanks for the update roturn!
Lutsenko's recent win already helps already a lot and makes this look better for us, despite our awful Giro. Still, Reis with only 73 points with half his races gone is just sad. |

Despite having some solid performances at the Giro, Wallonie and Liechtenstein, we drop a place. Well, that's not encouraging! This Giro score may be the worst ever with a rider finishing 3rd in the GC.. Ouch! Pretty sure we won't drop further down the ranking (with Morton and Haig both attending a GT and Bobridge having a couple of promising stage races left), so I'm still confident to be in the mix for the Top-10 battle. As we used to be in the past..

I still cant believe the Giro was that terrible for us, I thought we were one of the better teams. 6th in the GC and a stage win you'd think would put you as one of the top 10 teams or so, but to be in the bottom 3rd of scorers just shows how bad we did with stage results I guess.
I'd say Im almost for sure going down now, I needed solid GTs and I cant see ourselves doing much better in the remaining 2, and Kinoshita isn't going to be winning Monuments to make up for it.

A very good race in Praha, good Giro and a decent Roubaix makes it a relatively good month for us despite the other three races being crap. It's good to see some daylight down to the relegation zone and also knowing that we have a good amount of races where we will be expecting podiums still to go. The Vuelta and Tour will probably hurt us, but other than that, the schedule should be fine and at least give us something, so we're still positive when it comes to staying up.
Pedersen with only 61 points so far is not that good the coming years, though he had some bad luck. On the other hand it's cool to see Würtz and Kragh combining for 776 points already this season in their first season as maxed riders, up from a total of 392 through the whole season last year.
Amazing leap by Gazelle up the rankings. If only they can get Madrazo going, they might still very much have a chance of winning the title again (or if Malecki is doing the other GTs as well).
Thanks for the update, roturn!

Thanks for the update!
Love the look of the table, certainly far better than i would have expected before the month but we didnt have a single race where we underperformed expectations this month. Gazelle and Isostar in very close contact to us and both of them have plenty of race days left for their top stage racer so we need to continue scoring big to defend the lead.
Ahead of us is a month that looks very promising for Evonik with a lot of focus on the hills and multiple races for both Skujins and Lopez. Hopefully, we can use them to expand our lead.
What really makes us strong this season is the team depth. Van Stayen and Skujins havent even scored that much so far but we have a total of 6 riders over 250 points already and 13 riders with three digit scoring. 13 riders in the top 135 riders is very good and that sort of depth was one of the key things i wanted to achieve in the offseason.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!
And To All Who Organize Something On Daily As Well!

Quite a drop there. But the Giro should be our worst Grand Tour of the season so things aren't looking too bad at the moment.

It's Evonik vs. Gazelle now surely, with Festina the dark horse in it. We've had our best race days sadly, rest of the season will be tough to hold on to the top spots. Top5 would be perfect at the end..

He will ride the Vuelta. If he gets top 5 GC there as well, I will rename to Team Malecki
I'll go ahead and state the obvious: incredible period. Feels good to be back near the top. Madrazo, Formolo and Teunissen will need to start delivering though. Currently our three leaders scored an absymal percentage of our points.

I guess we have a pretty similar setup. Coquard is my only better rider than yours. Lecuisinier vs. Phinney in the Vuelta = no more RD I suspect (for both).
Koretzky isn't better than your puncheurs, and your secondary GC riders are significantly better than mine - so I would definately say you are the favorite over me

That looks very good for us at the moment! I´m not sure how many RD my leaders have left but hopefully enough to keep the position.

Were not doing terribly but its looking like its impossible for us to survive even at this stage it seems :S
Even so, it was never a realistic prospect based on our team but I hope we can still deliver some unexpected results through the year!

Thanks for the update. Not a great stretch for us there. We're going to need Ponzi to step up and take over for Amador as our main point scorer as Amador has had a very steep decline this year

Thank you for the update!
Must say I'm not confident at all in our position this season. We've got lots of races where we are a non-factor with minimum points, here being PKP, Liechtenstein, Roubaix and Amstel. Too many of those will hurt a lot when the season comes to a close, and I fear we're heading that direction with only Taaramäe and Kwiatkowski seemingly able to deliver points for us. Guess we'll need some other solid results to steer clear of the relegation battle, which I suspect we'll be close to when the GTs are over and difficult races (points wise for us) like ToNE come later in the season. |

Thanks for the update.
Not bad at all, but not great for my team. The gap is smaller to the teams behind us at this point of the year in comparison to the last few years. Because of that it does not look that great - may be our worst year in a while.

Yeah, trash season so far compared to the expectations. The good news is that I thought we'd be further back off the top 5 really, but all teams except basically Evonik & Isostar are close together. Thanks for the update roturn!
