E3 Prijs Discussion
E3 Prijs

Welcome to the E3 Prijs, the second-to-last cobblestone classic of the spring season! It’s a race with a rich tradition, prominent names on the winner’s list - although more recently, there has just been one name, but we’ll get to that. Let’s see what’s in store for us in Belgium.

The profile hasn’t changed a bit compared to last year. At 211 kilometers, it’s long but not among the longest races on the calendar. It is complicated by the near-constant up and down of very short but often steep little ascents and the following descents though. Despite it being classified as flat, some puncheur skills surely can’t hurt here.

Tier I
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/mos.png Bewley77707775828282
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/tti.png Kamyshev77658175826660
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/tti.png Senechal75677974826974
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/evo.png Blythe76667671827673
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gzl.png Teunissen76677773816769
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/min.png Zepuntke72697972817265

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/rak.png Sibilla71637268816664

With last year’s second place finisher and this season’s dominant force Summerhill not here and three-time (!) defending champion pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/mos.png Bewley slowly starting to decline, the race is as open as it has been in years. The Kiwi is still the top favorite, if for no other reason than that his competitors have to get rid of him before a potential sprint, but his rivals are closer than they have been in a long time.

Above all others, the Tinkoff duo of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/tti.png Kamyshev and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/tti.png Senechal has to be named. The Kazakh finished 8th here last year when still wearing the Air France colors, a disappointment at the time. He’s here to do better and with this 1-2 punch, Tinkoff surely looks to score big.

They will be challenged among others by last last year’s 4th through 6th place, namely pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/evo.png Blythe, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gzl.png Teunissen and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/rak.png Sibilla. On paper, the latter is not as big of a threat due to his underwhelming secondary stats, but he’s shown what he’s capable of here.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/min.png Zepuntke, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/lpu.png Vanbilsen and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/iso.png Per round out the tier, all of them very well-rounded with solid hill and sprint stats to complement their good stamina and resistance.

Tier II
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/aeg.png Van Hooydonck71707372786172
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/afk.png Puccio72667671786055

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/pum.png Declerq74737371776767
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/tti.png Sulimov73707771796571
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/tti.png Zubov68637069796169

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/rak.png Kuroeda74637273777478

The second tier is devided in two parts. In the upper half, we have team leaders that want to attack the Top 10 here. Those include pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/aeg.png Van Hooydonck, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/afk.png Puccio and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/azt.png Orue as as possibly the best pure cobblers among them, as well as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/fes.png Karatzios and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/pum.png Declerq, who boast great flat and hill stats to compensate for slightly lower cobble stats, and finally Orue’s teammate pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/azt.png Richardson, who lacks stamina and resistance more than any other contender, but is still a decent cobbler.

The lower half is filled with the strongest domestiques who could easily enter the Top 15 or 20 on a good day. Tinkoff continues to show their strength in this tier with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/tti.png Sulimov and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/tti.png Zubov. In addition to those two, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/evo.png Neilands and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/iso.png Polanc have probably the best odds to show up in the first few rows of the results.

Tier III
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/sct.png Saber75687472768179
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/akm.png Anderberg76697575766073
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/isa.png Sanogo73717172766970
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/des.png Young74697470757877
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/adp.png Joseph73657569756569

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/fpc.png Salzmann72717575756671
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/fpc.png Menten71737375756768
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/p4e.png Bakari57535653805957

Finally, we have the on paper weaker team leaders who might still score some meaningful points if everything breaks right for them. Well, maybe not all of them, but I didn’t want to withhold from you that the mythical pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/p4e.png Bakari is trying his luck here once again, freed from domestique duties he had at Andorra.

We are in this race only because we are obliged. If we get 1 point it will be a miracle.

Quite surprised to see that start list. Having a shot on a top10 is great. And much needed seeing lots of underperformances in February/March so far.

So the team hopefully not only going into breaks but also getting something as result.

The start of the cobbles season was promising for my team and i hope that this is a continuation of that. Without the likes of Wisniowski or Summerhill amongst others, i dont see why i should not hope for a podium here. This could be a nice conclusion to a great month (im just gonna pretend that Karlovy Praha was cancelled instead of postponed. For reasons.)
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!
And To All Who Organize Something On Daily As Well!

Really need a result here, probably a weaker startlist than the C1 races we had so far.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.
Declerq is much further up the favorites list here than in the races he disappointed in, so I'm somewhat hopeful he can finally get some good positioning and salvage his spring campaign slightly.

With the weaker top end, maybe Cavagna or Meiler can make a significant impact from a mid-race attack too.
Unfortunately another cobbled race without us on the startlist. Rooting for Bewley, should be the man to beat here.
A surprisingly doable PTHC startlist, looking to grab some points here!

As a couple of others have said, this is a startlist that could see some surprise riders in the top 10 and top 15 in a cobbles race. Fingers crossed Anderberg gets a good day and can be among those fighting for a top 15!
After a terrible race in Vlaanderen I really hope we can bounce back.
Karatzios is one of those riders who could - on a good day - sneak into the top 10. I surely doesn't expect him to do so however with him being all alone and not having any helpers. Tinkoff could very well smash this race big time though!

Teunissen, mate, PLEASE turn our season around here. We need a top 5 and on paper you should be able to deliver.
An cobbled race without Summerhill seems very odd
Definitely not Vanbilsen's season. The team was good though and did some nice back up scoring. Thanks for the report.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.
Great racing by the squad! Fantastic work Cool

Can’t complain with 15th. On a very good day we could have got a bit better, but we got more than the 5-10 points I expected before seeing the startlist.

Again, not a terrible race for us, but looking at the startlist we probably should have done a little better.
It was definitely not a bad result, we showed our colors in the break and we still put a rider in the top35 which is much more than I expected

Very good peformance from Zepuntke, the first time he ever "won" a sprint. Fifth place brings in some good points. Thanks for the report cunego and congrats Moser!

I'll take 20th from Anderberg and a breakaway appearance from Trondsen. We're simply not any good on the cobbles this season, which is no surprise Pfft

Big results for several teams. Bewley the expected winner, but wow, that's quite a result for Isostar, and the Evonik depth train. Congratulations, all!
