Tour of Eritrea Discussion

This was exactly what I predicted for my team only Venter disappointed me a bit. I hoped that he would go into a breakaway.

I hope today will be a better day and special tomorrow.

Congrats to Guave, Philips and McCormick for wins.

Oh boy. That was unexpected. Tough luck for Keinath, but it was cool to see the others try to expose his main weakness and succeed.

Warbasse is riding awesome and now is somehow in yellow. Some bonus seconds would have been nice, but how can I not be satisfied? Consistent and attentive riding gets us the jersey with one more challenge ahead.

Given that this is our win goal, it would be easy to jump to hopes of a GC victory, but I don't want to get ahead of myself. We have the jersey, but with an Ardennes type stage to go and everyone so close together, our race could just as easily fall apart worse than Keinath's. Since today was more of a medium mountain hybrid day, we don't really know how these guys will react to the more traditional hills still. Regardless, I am definitely hopefully for a top placing now.

We also now have yellow and white. Fabbro and Eg haven't looked amazing, but have been pretty solid. I think we have a team capable of protecting the jersey on stage 6 as well as any, but the guys behind us could easily take those seconds back even in just a sprint. A lot will depend on how the true puncheurs approach it. I'm excited either way.

Oh, and we still have stage 5, a sprint. Given that we have yellow and the AI is so random, I don't expect anything from AKA. But some more points would obviously be a plus, and I'd like to see him at least involved. No crazy splits please!

Thanks for another awesome report!

Frankiny riding aggressive and moving up to the GC podium was really nice to see, hopefully he can carry on the same on the final stage to defend his spot or maybe even move up further.

Oh well, AI randomness continues. What you gain on one day, you lose on the next... There's no logical explanation for Pernsteiner being dropped so early on the hills (read: his main strength), after having done a great ride in the mountains (not so strong)... And having no-one in the breakaway once again is unacceptable as well - these guys are just so lazy... Although we still have three riders in the Top 25, this stage is a huge bummer, especially Pernsteiner's no-show. Really kind of puzzled by what he's doing here (or not). Well, PCM randomness...

Congrats to Ndayisenga, who clearly continues to overperform here, and to Warbasse for the race lead. I really hope for two more good stages by my team - one out of six simply wouldn't be enough.

Not the best stage by Marquez, but that was to be expected on this terrain. He dropped a couple of GC spots and I fear that trend will continue during the last stage. Petrovski remains in 25th which is okay. Too bad we/he barely scored any KoM-points so far. Let's see if Guillén has an amazing day and gets a top-8 tonight, scoring our first points Embarassed

Congratz to cunego, a (young) home rider peforming like that must feel amazing! I hope I can feel the same one day Grin Thank you for another enjoyable report, G.

One really does love to see it Cool That's an awesome win! I don't even want to think about the GC at the moment, since that last stage looks very unpredictable (and I would be perfectly happy for Carlsberg to reach their win goal), but a stage win alone is a phenomenal outcome here, especially as Nemolito points out on African soil. Very much looking forward to the next two days, not least because of the nice reports, thanks for those as well Smile

I would also like to object to Fabianski's statement that this is an overperformance, I think this is precisely what one could expect of Valens (just trust me on that, no need to check my pre-race assessment Pfft )!

Well, of course it's nasty to take yet another 2nd place - and again behind a Philips rider - but it's a big, big relief to see that our sprint train actually can work, even on CT level! This was a big one for Reinhardt - although today's stage clearly shows that he could have easily won the green jersey by timing the previous sprints better. Well, so far it's a season of "almosts", so this doesn't really come by surprise...

Also good to see Pernsteiner holding on today and moving up 5 positions - with a stage that *should* really suit him ahead, he may well get our best GC result in the end. On the other hand, Manfredy will very, very likely drop out of the Top 30, with the hills not being his friends.

Congrats once again to Philips, great redemption after yesterday's bummer! And thanks for another great report, Gustav!

@cunego: Of course, he's got a nice skillset. But pretty much everything bar mountains and hills is rather sub-par (especially resistance and flat), so I still find it surprising to see him claim the win on that stage. On the other hand, there aren't many riders more used to African soil, so that might have been to his advantage Wink

Guillén gets a fifth place, which is all Los Pollos could have hoped for. First three points of the race are in the bag, olé. Thank you for the report Gustav, and congratulations to Abhi Smile

Another very underwhelming performance from AKA, but I'm more disappointed in Bertilsson. He was up there with AKA in the final stretch and then just peeled off and did nothing. AKA always seems too far back despite having a top leadout man and superior flat to everyone else, which is pretty frustrating. At least he sprinted...

Also sucks to have Fabbro lose time for no reason, but flat is a problem for him, so I guess that is what it is.

But it's tough to complain when we're still in yellow. All hands on deck tomorrow. I don't know if we can keep the jersey, but we have to try.

I thought the Mezgec-Salleh would finally pull one off, shame they couldn't finish it off.

On the other hand always great to see Philips take a win, with a draft pick to boot Smile

Nice consistency from Keough. A stage win, a 2nd and two other top 10s plus the likely the green make this a success already for McCormick. Hopefully a tame stage tomorrow so Kuss can hang on to a good GC position.

Thanks for the reports.

0 wage success already Pfft

Nice to get the second stage win after yesterday's disappointment. Let's see what the final stage brings.

Thanks for the reports Gustav Smile

This race has been going surprisingly well already. So excited for the final hill stage, hoping the squad can deliver there as well. Would be nice to secure the overall team rankings as well Smile

Another uneventful stage for the team. Marquez remained in 11th place which is not very good but was to be expected looking at some of his other performances this season and how lame one day mountain stages in GC's can turn out to be. Too bad Petrovski loses two unnecessary spots by doing some domestique work, but that one point won't make the difference in the final rankings.

Bad Tour of Eritrea for us, but shit happens I guess. Congratulations (again) to the stage winners and GC winner Warbasse and team Carlsberg. Thank you for six great reports, Gustavovskiy!

Happy with that victory from Hoelgaard, and a jump to 5th in the GC for Cort Nielsen. Perhaps not everything we could've hoped for, but still a decent result.

I feel like I made the correct decision to bring Frankiny here over Ranaweera, hopefully seeing Pinot here means that Ranaweera manages to dodge him somewhere else in his schedule.

Wow. I read the report 30 minutes ago and needed some time to cool down and process what just happened.

We won. Somehow. I did not see this startlist and think it was possible at all. But Warbasse had two great days and managed to survive his poor one. It went right down to the wire, and I was absolutely convinced that we would lose it by bonus seconds there. The margins were insanely close, and we're incredibly lucky to have come out on top.

This was just an insane result for us. We just managed to succeed in our first win goal ever, in improbable fashion. That makes Warbasse 2/2 in his goals this year (which is also already tied for the most goals our team has completed in one season). Knowing we have that in the bank is really cool and super gratifying. Warbasse is definitely gonna want a raise next year, and frankly, he deserves it as of now.

It's also our first GC victory ever with a stage racer. It took relegation, but we've finally put ourselves in a position to succeed in the mountains, which feels amazing. Given how wonky so many terrains have been, I'm glad I invested in these guys long term. This is a lesson for me to go big in this area when I hopefully make it back to PCT.

We also get white with Fabbro, which is really cool to see. His strange time losses kept him out of the top 15, but whatever. 3rd in team classification for us too. So very successful all around. Yes, AKA should have been better, but if I continue to care about sprints I'll go insane. Gotta enjoy the good things.

Thanks you Gustavovskiy for some amazing reports! The tension you built in this last one nearly gave me a heart attack as Warbasse's manager, but that's the sign of a super well written report. Grin
