Tour of Qatar - Stage 4

Similar weather on a similar profile to yesterday for Qatar’s fourth stage, can pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Swift go back-to-back after yesterday, or will pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Bewley hang onto the leader’s jersey?

Three men brave the wind in an attack today, although that’s not for a lack of trying from others, the protagonists are;

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ayu.png Kemboi
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ebd.png Vermeltfoort

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ebd.png Vermeltfoort wins the first sprint of the day, ahead of the Brit. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ayu.png Kemboi must’ve been saving energy though as he goes ahead and tops the tables at the net sprint. 60km left now and no more distractions, the break has a 3 minute margin.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Moser, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Ibera and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Aegon keep the pace high and the break only maintains 30 seconds over a strung out peloton as we enter the final 10km.

With 5km left Fenn has ditched his companions who have been caught! In the pack however, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/rbc.png RBC is trying to take advantage of the lack of organisation in the other teams yet. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/rbc.png Young takes the lead with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/rbc.png Howard on his wheel!

With just under 3km left Fenn is caught. The pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/rbc.png RBC attempt failed as well but pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/rbc.png Howard is still well placed with the pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Moser and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Ibera trains taking charge as the situation is as follows:

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Habtompcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Kluge
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Veselypcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Degenkolb
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Bewleypcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Zabel
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/akm.png KristoffAvelinopcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fes.png Coquard
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Van Staeyenpcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Ciolekpcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/rbc.png Howard
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/sva.png Guarnieripcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Ahlstrand
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Vanderbeist
Tzortzakispcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Goughpcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/rbc.png Boivin
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ebd.png Grosupcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/wha.png Stuaff
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png SbaragliRoelandts
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Zhupapcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Groenewegenpcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/jay.png Saber
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Swift
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ayu.png Petit

Despite the wind most sprinters fortunately have had the chance to get involved in this sprint, although surprisingly pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Swift and his teammates are quite far back.

Still with 1.5km left pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Iberia make some changes, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Degenkolb swings out to reposition himself while pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Zabel launches a sprint! pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Bewley still has pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Vesely in front of him and chooses to wait a little longer. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fes.png Coquard and Avelino also head into the wind!

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Swift is too far back as well and doesn’t look too likely to contest the sprint, it’ll cost him dearly if he can’t move forward quickly!

Final kilometre! pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Zabel and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Vesely still go strong on the front as pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Bewley takes up pole position behind the German and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Degenkolb follows the Kiwi! pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fes.png Coquard is still going strong near the front though, while Avelino drifts backwards a little on the left, temporarily blocking pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pum.png Ciolek in the process.

500 metres left as pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Vesely pulls ahead of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Zabel! pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Bewley is gaining ground on both but doesn’t have heaps of time left! Avelino also finds the legs to challenge again, as pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fes.png Coquard falters andpcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Ahlstrand makes a late challenge on the outside! Otherwise pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Ciolek, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/rbc.png Howard, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Degenkolb, Roelandts, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Vanderbeist and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Van Stayen are sprinting well but need to find the space to move out if they want to win the stage or at least challenge for the podium!

The final metres and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Vesely isn’t quite ready to give his leader the win! pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Zabel has fallen back though so now their biggest competitor is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Ciolek who spies a gap and advances! pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fes.png Coquard and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Ahlstrand still are both moving quickly and have free air in front of them as well but surely they are too far back to contest the win now!

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Bewley takes the win! And with his closest GC competitor not near the front he greatly improves his GC ambitions as well! The final metres were too much for his teammate pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Vesely who drops to a respectable sixth place. Which means pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Ciolek and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Ahlstrand land a podium place, both with contrasting strategies. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fes.png Coquard takes 4th ahead of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Degenkolb, who messed up a bit there as he might’ve won had he been on his teammates wheel. Roelandts, Avelino, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Van Staeyen and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/rbc.png Howard complete the top 10.
