Ended up surviving quite comfortably last season in the end. Great season for Cosnefroy with 361 points & 95th in the PT rankings.

Thank you for looking after him and Hofstetter last season. I sure hope that we can continue this strong relationship between our teams moving forward!

There's a lot of riders on some nice wages that I would obviously love to talk to you about, but I'm pretty sure you are not interested in parting with any of them. Pfft

Wurtz going up that much is a bit unfortunate, but he's a real powerhouse now, and the savings on Pederson will help a lot. Interested in the direction you take in transfers.

Ouch, the wage of Würtz is massive. I guess a defensive approach in renewals to ensure you could keep him made him accept his 1 round offer, hence the high wage. Imo it's 200K too high compared to other "similar" riders. He's a great rider though so I understand the need to keep him.

Good luck in the off season. Still some room to play with Smile

@knockout: Hehe, I look forward to getting a PM!

@the_hoyle: Thanks! He made it kind of easy for me being shit last season, but very important to get his wage down.

@LLS: I hope so too! They were both good riders for us last season, especially Cosnefroy. He's a kind of rider that I really like and I imagine he will do very good for you in CT.

@bbl: Haha, that depends who you talk about! Must say I'm very happy to see Kragh on a slightly lower wage than last year, so I imagine he at least will be a man that stays within our ranks.

@SotD Not sure how much I can say about renewals, but let's just say that he would never accepted 200k less than his current wage. We did have a clear wish to keep him, so possibly we could have made a better deal, but the OVL jump and good results was not a good combo for our wage budget Pfft Thanks. Still some room, but I think the question will be if we should get some cash in to train some of the riders and picking up some talents, or just building on the core.

And with that we present the rider availability for the upcoming transfer season, with stars from 1 (staying) to 5 (leaving).

Transfers - the ins and outs

We finished 12th in the rankings last season, but much habe been changed within the squad since then.

Firstly, Benoit Cosnefroy, Mathias Krigbaum, Felix Grossschartner and Hugo Hofstetter returned to their teams after staying with us on loan. Ahead of the season, we decided not to renew with Ken Sebastian Vassdal and Rhys Gillett, and during transfers another seven riders have left the team.

Andreas Stokbro will only be out on loan, while we say goodbye to Julien Vermote, Mikel Iturria, Yuan Tan Peng, Lasse Norman Hansen, Vegard Stake Laengen and Amund Grondahl Jansen.

The last four left in a big deal that saw us signing Trond Hakon Trondsen, Jonas Vingegaard and Nihal Silva (later swapped with Christophe Laporte), while also getting the money needed for the best possible training camp ahead of the season.

It was a sale that certainly didn't come easy to us. In Stake Laengen we lost a riders that's been very important the last few years and in general we come out of this transfer window with a clearly weakened TT core. It wasn't what we intended before the transfer season and we also didn't manage to take advantage of the many riders being available for quite low wages on free agency.

In total, the 13 riders that we had last year, but no longer this year, took 1778 points in 2020. Have we managed to replace them? I'm not sure, but I do like our schedule better this year and I hope we can deliver another good season.

A total of 12 riders will ride for Grieg-Maersk for the first time in their career this season.

Of those, Ivan Sosa, Niklas Larsen, Arturs Belevics and Erik Nordsaeter Resell have joined us on loan. Especially Sosa is a rider we expect to deliver some good results this season and he's a rider that will thrive in the Grand Tours.

The other signings will hopefully be a part of our team for years to come, and we hereby introduce them:

Trond Hakon Trondsen | 27 years old |XP: 4.100 | Wage: 65,000
FLMOHITTSTARESRECCOBSPACCFIDHPRL
75657264727383667676666765

The man who only eyes the last sprint stage in a GT. Trondsen is not the fastest, but he's capable in the hills and recovers very well. We don't expect much, but hope to find some stages where he can shine.

Benjamin Brkic | 25 years old |XP: 4.18 | Wage: 50,000
FLMOHITTSTARESRECCOBSPACCFIDHPRL
72727370737268656772646772

In Benjamin we see a good allrounder, who we think will be a valuable member of the team. Maxed stats:

Benjamin Brkic | 26 years old |XP: 4.100 | Wage: ?
FLMOHITTSTARESRECCOBSPACCFIDHPRL
72747472747370656772646774

Jonas Vingegaard | 25 years old |XP: 4.04 | Wage: 50,000
FLMOHITTSTARESRECCOBSPACCFIDHPRL
66766969747675606166686969

Jonas is a talented climber, who likes a good attack in the mountains. We hope to see develop into a rider that can go for stages in the final week of a Grand Tour.

Possible stats when maxed:

Jonas Vingegaard | 26 years old |XP: 4.100 | Wage: ?
FLMOHITTSTARESRECCOBSPACCFIDHPRL
67787071767777606166686971

Nejc Kosic | 31 years old |XP: 4.100 | Wage: 50,000
FLMOHITTSTARESRECCOBSPACCFIDHPRL
72586661747067775964786761

Every good team needs a Slovenian, right? Nejc come in from the FA market and will strengthen the team for the cobbles, much needed after the departure of Jansen and Peng.

Nils Eekhoff | 23 years old |XP: 2.0 | Wage: 50,000
FLMOHITTSTARESRECCOBSPACCFIDHPRL
69606568697164667068646369

Our youngest rider! He's not very strong not, but this boy have potential and we think he could be a very good domestique in the classics some years from now.

Possible maxed stats (alternatively 75 rec and 77 sprint, but 68 tt and 69 prl):

Nils Eekhoff | 26 years old |XP: 4.100 | Wage: ?
FLMOHITTSTARESRECCOBSPACCFIDHPRL
75606875767767747071676476

Ingvar Omarsson | 32 years old |XP: 4.100 | Wage: 50,000
FLMOHITTSTARESRECCOBSPACCFIDHPRL
70717473716772656872687372

Similar rider to Brkic. Can do a job in most terrains and our first rider from Iceland on the team.

Gunnar Dahl-Olsen | 31 years old |XP: 4.100 | Wage: 50,000
FLMOHITTSTARESRECCOBSPACCFIDHPRL
73546872667766745969696569

Strictly speaking he's from the Faroe Islands. Dahl-Olsen will be a domestique for the cobbles, with his TT ability also possibly coming handy in one time or two.

Christophe Laporte | 29 years old |XP: 4.100 | Wage: 67,000
FLMOHITTSTARESRECCOBSPACCFIDHPRL
73627362727474757273676465

The closest thing we came to an replacement for Amund Grondahl Jansen. We swapped Laporte for Vermote. While Vermote is decent against the clock, Laporte have more years left on a high level and we also think he can get more results on his own than Vermote.

So, thus our team looks like this after transfers!

i.imgur.com/aIlL5UA.jpg

In general I will say that we look forward to the season! With Würtz getting a huge bump in OVL, he will have fewer race days, but he still have room for all "the important" races. We do however anticipate a slight drop in points compared to last season. From Wisniowski and Pedersen we expect much more, and also with a calendar that should be more suited to them. And then we just have to cross our fingers for Kragh and that the climbers can prove valuable, but we expect another season were we need some big wins to stay in the division, in what's probably the last season for Wisniowski in our team.

That Pedersen stat line looks so strong!
Hopefully that cobbles duo will deliver a bit better again this year!

Not much to say except that I will forever be jealous of your roster. A lot of guys I wish I could get my hands on. That Pedersen training looks unbelievably amazing. He's going to be an all time great.

I do worry a bit about how PCM will handle the dual cobbles threat as your main points scorers. Andorra did quite well in PCT with Summerhill and VSB, so maybe it will be fine. They both need to be highly placed for it to pay off. And depth scoring will obviously have to be good when you don't have main competitors on 3 significant terrains.

Thanks for taking on Resell and Belevics! Hope they do great things for you. They will both be learning from the best. Smile

We don't have to wait long for Bewley's successor! Smile

Würtz Schmidt is obviously Ganna's worst nightmare in the long run, but I don't think your leader trio will see you end up in the last 3 spots, and after that a lot depends on how well you manage to spend the wage cap Wisniowski will free up.

(also thanks for giving me a preview what Ganna's wage demands will look like rather soon... Frown )

SotD
Interesting path for Mads P. - Not surprising as such, but I would have expected him to become 80 SPR rather than 81 COB, to see him cover the ground a bit better when Wisniowski already can ride every single cobbled race of the calender Smile

Nils Eekhoff is really nice talent to get for 50k Grin

Other than that I won't get too involved in the PT big wig business. But I do like your team's approach a lot and I hope you can have a good season Smile

@knockout: I hope so too! Very intrigued to see how it plays out, especially with a new game and all. Last season was honestly a big failure cobbles wise, so need something better from them. With races like Chesire and Macskako Kerekparverseny added to our calendar, I at least expect more from Wisniowski.

@bbl: Crossing fingers for depth. I liked our cobbles squad more last season, but Ringheim and Laporte should at least be capable of some top 30s and hopefully Kosic as well. Very happy to take Resell and Belevics on. Looks they will be doing a lot of racing this season!

@cio: Would be great if you delayed Ganna maxing another year to keep his wage low Pfft Ganna has a truly great stat line, so expect to see him rise quite a bit when maxed, indeed ... Not looking forward to how he looks in three-four years time, but hopefully Würtz will have done some training by then himself Wink

@SotD: Considered doing the slow approach, upping his cobbles, sprint and acceleration steadily over many years, but in reality it came down to that it would take many years for him to really be a big factor in the sprints and his potential on the cobbles right now seems bigger. And we've always planned to have him taking over for Wisniowski before Wisniowski declines and with his training (and next season's training), that's hopefully the 2022 season. At the moment I don't think he will ever be 81/81 sprint/acc. Will probably be a little bit upped the next years, but I would prefer having him as an roleur rather than a straight up sprinter. Tempting to use some training money on Wurtz as well, so I guess we'll just see what kind of funds we can gather.

@redordead: Thanks! With 7 in potential, he's a rider that can be easily developed different ways, so I hope we end up choosing the right one. Thanks for the wishes, fingers crossed for a good season here as well Smile

New jersey time

We changed our kit supplier to Bioracer this year, but our designer stays the same. The team wants to thank the_hoyle for all his work and we hereby present the jersey for the next season, along with the NC jerseys that will be worn by Arturs Belevics (Latvian TT champion) and the two Norwegians Trond Hakon Trondsen (RR) and Truls Engen Korsaeth (TT).
