I believe there's a chance a Freire or so could win a bunch sprint of 40 riders.

No Cavendish, no Greipel. No nothing.

Petacchi's a far better climber than either of them and has flat out said the course is way too hard for him to have any chance.

I'm still laughing at how Greipel said he had a chance last year, then after the race complained that the course was far harder than he'd been told.

Seriously, who just believes what they're told instead of reccon-ing the course?

I heard the Tour down Under had a mountain.

I still remember suggesting to Crue that Cavendish should be included as an outside bet in the betting system for Milan SanRemo 2009. "Cavendish doesn't deserve to be there." "he'll never get over those hills."

So while it may be unlikely - particularly when the Worlds is usually an aggressive fast paced raced - theres always a slight chance for the race to go Cavendish' way.
I wont be surprised if the sprinters are nowhere, but similarly, I wont be too surprised if they make it to the finish and battle for the win.

Its quite fun having a Worlds where noone is 100% sure of the type of rider it suits best.

Because something incredibly odd happened. The italian teams decided to kill the sprinters by pulling hard.....they did that on the flat. So they killed the climbers and the sprinters were fine.

It was a Rabobank level of tactical stupidity and it won't happen again.

And it 100% will not happen at a Worlds course that is quite a bit harder than San Remo and where most teams have few riders and will use them sparingly.

Why should a climber go to a puncheur's profile?

Leo Van Vliet has succesfully made the worst Dutch worlds selection of all time.

For some reason nobody understands, he selected Koen de Kort, Laurens ten Dam and Steven Kruijswijk as remaining names, instead of Tjallingii, Hoogerland or Maaskant.

final selection
Koos Moerenhout, Jos van Emden, Lars Boom, Karsten Kroon, Sebastian Langeveld, Niki Terpstra, Koen de Kort, Steven Kruijswijk and Laurens ten Dam.

Conclusion:
Leo van Vliet is a huge assclown who knows 0.00% about cycling. Go away moron

Does anybody else think that there must have been a conspiracy against Hoogerland this year? After having a really good Vuelta in 2009, his team don't get an invite to any GTs this year, and now Hoogerland gets left out of the team for the worlds!!

No, Van vLiet is simply a moron.

Belgium everything to Gilbert, Netherlands everything to Kroon.
The big difference is - the Dutch team is really poor.. The worst I ever seen from them.

Bah. I'm really dissapointed Hoogerland wasn't picked. Also I was hoping for Kreder and Tjallingii. How the hell can you pick De Kort and Ten Dam. What have they done this season. Angry

It's not always that. You need to build a team that works well together

I see a lot of newspapers/sites naming sprinters as favourites.

Has no one noticed the course is not flat and the finish is uphill?

it's about 2-3% on the last 700m, I don't think that will stop the sprinters if they in the first group

I think this course means that the race will be completly open. If the race will be riden in really hard pace then the favourites for me will be Cancellara, Hushovd or Gilbert. If not, I think Cavendish, Greipel or Farrar can win this race too.
