Ronde Van Vlaanderen (PT) Discussion
One of the big cobbles monuments has arrived! This is a huge race for the PT division and should be really interesting!
Welcome to the 19th edition of this great race. The route stays the same as expected. Pedersen is the defending champion and returns again to try and win for the 3rd time in 4 years.
| 1 | Mads Pedersen | Grieg-Maersk | 6h34'03 | | 2 | Lukasz Wisniowski | Assa Abloy | s.t. | | 3 | David Per | Carlsberg - Danske Bank | s.t. | | 4 | Floris Gerts | Rabobank | s.t. | | 5 | Hampus Anderberg | Aker - MOT | s.t. | | 6 | Rasmus Tiller | King Power | s.t. | | 7 | Ivan Siric | Cedevita | + 1'17 | | 8 | Nathan Van Hooydonck | Fastned | s.t. | | 9 | Florian Senechal | Tinkoff Team - La Datcha | s.t. | | 10 | Marcos Altur | MOL Cycling Team | s.t. |
| Rider | FL | MT | HI | ST | RS | CO | SP | AC | FT | Spengler | 74 | 58 | 67 | 74 | 73 | 83 | 62 | 70 | 67 | Pedersen | 77 | 65 | 69 | 78 | 80 | 83 | 78 | 77 | 75 | Anderberg | 78 | 64 | 69 | 77 | 76 | 82 | 60 | 73 | 70 | Per | 79 | 68 | 70 | 74 | 75 | 82 | 74 | 74 | 68 | Altur | 75 | 63 | 70 | 75 | 70 | 82 | 72 | 68 | 70 | Van Hooydonck | 73 | 63 | 71 | 75 | 74 | 82 | 61 | 72 | 64 | Senechal | 75 | 61 | 67 | 79 | 74 | 82 | 69 | 74 | 67 | Gerts | 76 | 65 | 77 | 75 | 79 | 81 | 71 | 69 | 68 | Kasperkiewicz | 76 | 66 | 74 | 75 | 77 | 81 | 59 | 67 | 79 | Siric | 78 | 63 | 71 | 77 | 80 | 80 | 77 | 71 | 60 | Teunissen | 75 | 60 | 66 | 76 | 72 | 80 | 66 | 68 | 70 | Gamper | 77 | 62 | 67 | 77 | 77 | 80 | 64 | 71 | 72 | Kamyshev | 75 | 55 | 63 | 78 | 72 | 80 | 64 | 57 | 59 | Ovsyannikov | 74 | 61 | 68 | 75 | 72 | 79 | 79 | 78 | 71 | Tiller | 74 | 65 | 70 | 76 | 75 | 79 | 74 | 73 | 69 | Rutsch | 77 | 63 | 68 | 76 | 75 | 79 | 69 | 68 | 70 | Jacobs | 76 | 60 | 69 | 77 | 76 | 79 | 67 | 68 | 71 |
Pedersen returns as again the favourite. His sprint ability could make the difference as his closest cobbles competitor is Spengler and he does not have that same speed in a the finish.
Anderberg, Per, Altur, Van Hooydonck and Senechal are the next group of competitors. This group comes with a better hill climbing ability which could cause some headaches for the 2 big favourites, although it is not a drastic difference. Per comes with a decent sprint ability and with enough energy left, he could cause a headache for Pedersen.
Gerts and Kasperkiewicz are next with the latter representing the first PCT team. No points on offer for them but could be a fun race and good experience for the Specialized team.
Siric, Teunissen, Gamper, Kamyshev, Ovsyannikov, Tiller, Rutsch and Jacobs could be in the mix in a select group finish. Especially Siric and Ovsyannikov.
Overall a really strong group of riders here. I was going to do a list of outsiders but I really believe that this list contains the winner. This will be a really exciting race for the PT and some important points are on offer!
Good luck to all involved!

My favorite cobble race! It's quite a long one, so stamina might play a part but I still have a feeling Per will take this. I just feel he always does well and thus he is a solid bet

Hopefully the form from Franceville can be carried over. Another top5-10 performance is needed and on a good day closing to the podium would be nice as well. |

A goal race so not looking forward to it at all.
Thanks for the preview.

First time we're here with actual points at stake. We hope for a top 10 here and a stunt in Roubaix next week
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Always a perfect race on paper for Gerts, but never in reality. Don't expect any miracles this year, but we do need a top 10.

The way this can race this year i think Gerts makes the most sense as a winner disappointing not to see many Puncheurs turn up as with Pogacars exploits IRL theres a change to how this is rode and is much more friendly to hilly riders now than in the past |

High hopes for this one. The flat and easy final 10km could benefit ovsya a bit.
I havent been particularly blessed with break appearances so far. This is one of the races where id really love to see some of my secondary guys in the break. Kurianov/Ansons/Dversnes would all be nice in there.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Hoping for Anderberg to again lead the way for us! Franceville was encouraging, and hopefully a sign of what is to come here. He did very well last season with 5th, and with his training, I definitely hope for even more this season.
Pedersen won last season, and must be the favourite again here, eventhough Per is the obvious challenger, I feel.
Thank you for the preview, Jakstar! |

Interesting to see how Altur works in these very difficult cobbled races. I’m not entirely sure what to expect. A top 10 here and a top 5 in Paris-Roubaix would be nice. A podium in either would be awesome!

Not even in the favourites list again but probably should be expected. Even a Top 25 will be a success going by cobbles results so far.
Thanks for the preview!

Would be nice to see a solid result from Kaspa here, even without the points

The old man still has it! Not only that but this is his best result in this race!
Congrats, bbl! Per is a beast, but also taking advantage of the awful run Pedersen had so far.
Thanks for the report!

Per is having a great classics season so far, congrats bbl on the win and checking off a goal. Jacobs again right where he needs to be, I'm very pleased with top 10 here and hopeful he can achieve similar at PR as it suits him a little better. Thanks for the race Jakstar!

Our first monument!!! Per has had so much success and done so much for our team since he joined, but winning a monument is still something beyond anything I could have imagined. I toyed with the idea of making this race a win goal and I really felt Per's Mtn and MM were fit to this race (notwithstanding his very very mildly disappointing performances here in the past), but I still never could have really imagined a victory on the biggest stage.
He looked strong and well positioned throughout, and to be honest, I was hoping he would attack late on so he could potentially solo away like in Roma Maxima. Sprints can be such crapshoots. But he knew exactly what he was doing, biding his time with his energy saved and getting ready to put away the race in the last bit. He continues to be everything a manager could hope for despite the adjustments to the game engine and the higher level of competition this season. Watching him sprint away like that was a view of gold.
Happy to see Gerts still have a great race here after his decline too. Thanks for the great report Jakstar!

Congrats on the awesome win Per! :-)
Brilliant race for us, to get both 4th and 12th, while also being aggressive throughout the entire day. Really love to see that!
Also really sad to see Pedersen do this bad.

Thank you for the report, kb! And big congratulations to Per and bbl. Those monuments win never come easy, and very nice to see him finally claim one for Carlsberg.
Anderberg raced great the whole day, being attentive and just perfectly aggresive too. In the end, we didn’t quite get the result we hoped for, and it was probably much on Anderberg, as him and the other 4 realized attacking in the final kilometers would only empty themselves. Encouraging racing and kind of understandable tactics, which makes it a fine race, and a good try, by us. Fingers crossed we can come back next year and dream of that monument win again then |
